Image copyright problem with Image:Millane.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Millane.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. No worries mate, good to have you on board. I suggest you take a look at how some of the other AFL player profiles are formatted if you want any ideas. One thing is that many articles don't have much info on the player's career, we need more people here expanding it, and without a lot of people it'll be a big effort. So if you could tell some of your mates to help out that'd be great. Anyway if you have any questions, just drop me a line on my talk page. You have scanned that image from a book if i am right. Most books do have a copyright and unless an express permission is sought from the author or publisher it would violate the copyrights. Shields Articles[edit]

Dan,

What a surprise to hear from you! One day several weeks ago I clicked the random article link and got the "Nox Bailey Shield" article. It was such an unusual name that I dug into it deeper. A guy named Adam Power at the ASF (adampower@softball.org.au) responded to my inquiry and sent me a photo of the shield. (We do not have many shield-shaped trophies in the U.S., and we would never refer to them as "shields.") One thing led to another, and I learned about the other shields. Also I polished some of the articles a bit. Adam later sent me photos of most of the shields, and I posted 'em. I'd be happy to help you polish the articles, but of course I don't have any of the information. If you can send it to me, I'll turn it into Wikipedia stuff. Microsoft Word format would probably be best, if you want to do it.

I suggest that next time you create user subpages if you will not have time to finish the articles. I deleted them because they were empty. You can't have an article with just a template in it. I've moved the information to subpages:

However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. i wasnt willfully disrupting wikipedia, i was willfully disrupting you. If you had of just answered my question here [2] with a "no you can not use the image in a template" we would of avoided this whole situation, i still dont see the sense in not being able to use them in a template which can not be used outside that templates topic. Your action created a situation that violated Wikipedia policies. You knew what the policies were. You took the action anyways. This is a willfull disruption of Wikipedia and you were properly blocked. Please do not repeat such actions again, whether you think it is against Wikipedia or against a single user.

Templates can and are frequently used outside of the main article namespace. In fact, this is specifically why the use of fair use images is not permitted on templates as such use can easily violate copyright law. Even if you think your particular template is commpletely unusable outside of main article namespace, and even if you are right, we can not allow exceptions on a case by case basis except in extreme cases decided by a very broad consensus. This is because to allow such case by case exceptions creates a wholly unmanageable situation with respect to copyright management.

I don't think it is necessary for me to cite multiple examples in order to prove the point. The fact is, templates intended for main article namespace are frequently used outside of the main article namespace. Victorian Rail Stubs[edit]

Mernda/Meranda[edit]

According to the VR 1927 Grades book, Andrew Waugh's maps of the VR, and current usage of the name of the location, the station past South Morang was Mernda, as the Epping line article had. What makes you think that it was Meranda?

Coloured fonts in Melbourne railway articles[edit]

My mistake. I just ran across a station article with yellow, and maybe it's just my monitor, but it was hard to read. When I looked at the history, it looked like someone had just taken it upon themselves to add the color when they added the zone info, and the updates seemed pretty spread out chronologically (about one month), so I didn't think it was an assessed decision. Then I just started going down the line "fixing". I do think it's confusing with red & blue links, as well, but if the issue's been tackled already, I defer. Grands Prix[edit]

Your revised version of Australian Grand Prix reads perfectly OK - but just for info 'Grands Prix' as the plural of Grand Prix is acceptable in English and is used by several major print publications. The logic is that the phrase is French in origin, so the plural may also be derived from the French spelling, I believe. Cheers. --4u1e 11:56, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seemed clumsy to me - that's why I reverted it. "Grands Prix" (cf "Grandes Épreuves") is used throughout Wikipedia, so I don't see what's wrong with it, but I'd sooner "Grand Prix events" if there had to be an alternative. Not accepted by me, I'm afraid. Dictionary.com is just plain wrong on that - it happens!. Try a Google on "Grands Prix" as opposed to "Grand Prixes" and count the hits. "Grands Prix" is the plural used on Forix, grandprix.com and formula1.com, as well as being the correct French plural for a French phrase used in English. -- Ian Dalziel 20:34, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed you are marking some articles with misspelled names as fit for speedy deletion. I think the correct action in this case is to replace the article with a redirect to the correct article using this wiki markup:

I stumbled across the Australian baseball articles last night and wanted to let you know about {{Infobox baseball team}}... It's being used in articles about teams from Cuba, Mexico the Netherlands, Japan and Taiwan. And your "Gotcha" thing had me clicking all over the place, wondering what the hell was happening. Cheers mate, i was editing some of the articles recently i was thinking about a template for the infoboxes. i see you also have created the template for uniforms aswell, that will make it ALOT easier to get the uniforms done on the pages aswell.
