Welcome to User:CorbinSimpson Archive Page 2!

Welcome to Esperanza[edit]

Welcome, CorbinSimpson/Archive/2, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, JoanneB, Titoxd and FireFox. The April elections have begun.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me via email or talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!

Thanks! _-M o P-_ 03:12, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your sig is very cool :) Many different colors. --Actown e 03:42, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it seems that someone remade the Hollywood Undead page. It seems just as awful as it was last time. I wanted to put it up for deletion, but because there is a previous nomination, I can't figure out how to tag it. I've tagged it with {{prod}} for the time being, but perhaps you could take a look? Hopefully you might know how to do this...thanks Deleuze 11:25, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, figures. Well, the {{prod}} seems about right. I've modified it to acknoledge the previous deletion. In case you ever need it, {{afdx}} is the template to use for multiple deletions. Put something like {{subst:adfx|2nd}}. Thanks and happy editing!!! - Corbin 1 ɱ p s ɔ Rock on, dude! 23:43, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If the page isnt good why is it being deleted and not just edited. the hollywood undead are a notable subject. i dont understand why i cannot make an entry on them JoshDinger 21:30, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old Skool Esperanzial note[edit]

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3[edit]

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Hey Corbin[edit]

Howdy. A couple things. First off, there is no policy that says you must contribute a certain amount to any namespace. It might affect any RfA you make, but not your membership status. So, don't sweat it. Be civil, and others will be civil to you. Secondly, I noticed you have a decently large talk page. Would you like help archiving it? Thirdly, on behalf of decent Wikipedians (and believe me, there aren't a lot of them left) and Esperanza, have a *hug*. Wikipedia can be a cruel and mean place sometimes. Talk to me if you ever need help. Corbin 1 ɱ p s ɔ Rock on, dude!

And a million hugs for you, retrievable when ever you need one or all together at once! Thanks for your kind and much-needed comments on my page. I can't tell you how appreciated they are. I may take you up on your offer for help in other ways. I think I can see how to make an archive page, but thank you for your offer of help. lots of peace Maggiethewolfstar 18:35, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kana sync[edit]

Far be it from me to push work on someone, but... do you have any plans to synchronize interwikis on the new kana articles with ja:Category:仮名 or to use the images at commons:Hiragana or commons:Katakana? I'd volunteer myself, but I'd probably be less efficient. Cheers, Melchoir 03:27, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You noticed my explosive generation of kana stubs? Um, ya, the essence of it is that I noticed that someone had left a giant table of redlinks, and instructions for how to fill them out, but never got around to it. Sure, I'll fill out each of the articles. If nothing else, it's worth about 300 Main namespace edits. Thanks for informing me of the images on Commons — I didn't know about those! I'll also do interwiki links where possible. Thanks! - Corbin 1 ɱ p s ɔ Rock on, dude! 03:34, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, thank you! Melchoir 03:35, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
XD, thanks again for showing me those categories and the interwiki list. I've finished all non-borrowed kana in the gojuon. I'm pruning away bad interwiki links, and then my next task will likely be to see about getting the stroke orders for the various kana transwikied to English and incorporated. Happy editing! - Corbin 1 ɱ p s ɔ Rock on, dude! 03:10, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Stroke orders, hmm? Good luck! Melchoir 04:02, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CorbinSimpson[edit]

Corbin I am a friend of thewolfstar. She wants me to thank you from the bottom of her heart for helping her and speaking up at the ani on her, you are the only one who did. Please go to Merecat's page. He is blocked indefinitely too, for the same lame lack of evidence and for reasons that run deep. Wikipedia is being run by a 'not so secret cabal'. Many of it's politics editors are walking automatons. Calls of "Big Brother Big Brother Big Brother" can be heard everywhere". People are being gotten rid of left and right. Mostly right as the liberals and socialists are calling the biggest shots. Know that the throng only looks extreme left..the Nazi right are so behind it too. See the anti-communist article. Holy Mackeral. Anyhow, take care my dear Corbin. The world needs more people like you, with a heart and a fighting spirit...fighters who are not afraid to tell the truth. Lamb of god 23:43, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why does Archbishop Temple School require cleanup? --Jawr256 10:15, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yo. I probably should have been more specific. The voice of the article could be a bit more formal. Right now it's worded loosely and reads like a personal web page or the school's website. It's not in dire need of cleanup, but it isn't likely to improve and become Good or Featured at this point. So, feel free to take off the tag — the cleanup backlog can always be smaller! - Corbin 1 ɱ p s ɔ Rock on, dude! 14:31, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is a friendly reminder to be sure, when proposing an article for deletion using {{prod}} to include a reason in the tag, by adding {{prod|[REASON]}}. Also, please make sure the reason you give is explicit about your concern regarding the article. Thanks! Mangojuicetalk 05:16, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[edit]

Could you please tone down your signature in accordance with the guidelines laid out at WP:SIG. Your signature is simply too long (especially in Wiki code!) and tends to overwhelm comments when trying to respond in edit mode. Also, you seem to have a lot of unnecessary links in your sig. It really should only contain essential links, such as your user page (which allows a means to contact you). Advertising various other thoughts, pages, and beliefs is frowned upon. Thank you for understanding, Cyde Weys 04:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This will be a bit messy. I obviously constructed my signature to be useful to me as well as unique and in touch with me as a person. On the other hand, it is, to my knowledge, the biggest signature on all of Wikipedia in terms of wikicode. So, I wanted to ask for your input. Below are a handful of ideas that I cooked up, ordered from most to least disruptive. I'd like to know at what point my sig becomes sane again.
Um, so those are what I came up with. Obviously, I'd like to keep as much of the chill and cool as possible, but I know that I have to tone it down a bit. Please tell me which ones you like and where the threshold of acceptability is — your input matters quite a bit! Also, sorry for cluttering your talk page. I'll sign with something plain in return - CorbinSimpson 04:52, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I personally like CorbinSimpson ... it provides all the necessary links with nothing unnecessary. I guess you could colorize it if you really wanted. But the stuff towards the top of that spectrum ... shudders ... the code for it is seriously ten times longer than the default vanilla sig. --Cyde Weys 17:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your opinion. I'm going to keep the colors; my vision is not the best, and the colors help me find my comments. The Unicode characters are out; I logged in on my Ubuntu box and realized that none of the default fonts have the integral, mu, or eighth notes in them and they don't display properly. Thanks again. Happy editing! - CorbinSimpson 21:11, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is much, much better. --Tony Sidaway 21:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Much better, obviously! Thanks for listening. Most people don't realize but when they refuse to conform to sensible guidelines they are really lowering many admins' estimations of them. --Cyde Weys 23:54, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA Nomination[edit]

You've been nominated! Though, I'm not sure if you can accept that... it isn't really properly formatted. >_< Mopper Speak! 04:45, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'd love to lend a hand; however, you sure you want to do this? As experience always helps. Besides, the page may be taken down as it isn't properly formatted. Mopper Speak! 04:54, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have reformatted it for you :) - Glen TC (Stollery) 05:04, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, your choice whether you accept or not. However, remember that (unfortunately) lots of people don't judge by quality but by quantity; therefore, editcountitis may ensue. However, it is your choice to accept or not, after all. Mopper Speak! 05:18, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree with all of the above. You're a good Wikipedian, but I would prefer someone with more experience as an Admin. (Many administrators have been here more far more than a year)
  • I will suggest a few things however. Get involved in a lot of Wikipedia projects. Your involvement will increase drastically, I'm sure. Colonel Marksman 16:45, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject query[edit]

Hi, just wanted to run something by you as I noticed you are a somewhat frequent editor of the Edward Van Halen article. Do you think there would be any interest or need for creating a WikiProject Guitarists? I imagine something focused on cataloging all notable guitarists with their own articles, including things like:

  • Equipment used
  • Techniques and innovations noted
  • Tunings used
  • Roles in various musical groups
  • Endorsements

What do you think? Aguerriero (talk) 14:21, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I am still working on a first "draft" of the project styles and criteria to open for discussion, would you mind signing your name to the project's proposal listing here? Thanks! Aguerriero (talk) 15:06, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there[edit]

Just stopped by to thank you for commenting on what I left on Jimbo's talk page. Please leave a comment on my talk page any time, or even on my user page and feel free to say anything you want. I may or may not get offended, but if I do, feel that this is my problem. Also, please don't worry about some of the strange images on my user page. I just have a unique way of saying stuff. I like starcraft, too, but suck at it cause I never played it a lot. Thanks again. Metrocat 23:56, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA Request[edit]

Hey, I wondered if you could review an article for me? I don't exactly agree with the decision of the reviewer, he picked out NPOV even though I had taken it from the source (you'll see if you read it). He also criticized three section headers which tried to clarify confusing subjects. Would you mind re-reviewing it? The article is Combusken, thanks ahead.
