Nigerian articles

Celestina, what are your thoughts on the referencing for the Stephen Angbulu article? Personally i dont think it satisfies WP:NJOURNALIST. Dan arndt (talk) 23:18, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

  • Also if you have the opportunity to check the reliability of the references for Tosin Igho that would be appreciated. Dan arndt (talk) 20:13, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
@Dan arndt, I’m going to look at the second article closer but on the first article, it appears the creator move warred after this correct move was made my Onmyway22, there are too many red flags here and it is not my belief that this article is best suited for mainspace and should be nominated for deletion since the article creator has engaged in move-warring. Whilst I tackle certain things now with more diplomacy I should state that I noted strange occurrences are to be expected. Celestina007 (talk) 21:07, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
I have opened this afd for the first article. I’d proceed to observe(review) the second article accordingly. Celestina007 (talk) 21:26, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
@Dan arndt, oh boy, the second article is giving me a very bad feeling, so much so I have placed a {{COI}} tag on the article and moved it out of mainspace, pending the outcome of the conversation I have initiated at the TP of the article creator. Without using my binoculars a WP:BEFORE shows several red flags that I’m very uncomfortable with, thank you for notifying me, on behalf of WP:NIGERIA, I say a big thank you very much for your diligent observations. Celestina007 (talk) 11:50, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
You may want to check the sourcing for Michael Akanji as well. Dan arndt (talk) 08:44, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
@Dan arndt, thank you, taking a closer look at the creator of the article and I discovered, this was somebody I knew quite well and prior my decision to tackle possible undisclosed paid editing with less confrontation, I had, hard tackled them in the past see here and not only me noted this, other editors have noted their possible dubious edits see here by SamHolt6. On the souring, having removed the blatant unreliable ones, he isn’t the primary topic of literally all of the sourcing in that article and literally all mention him in passing thus doesn’t meet our general notability criteria and should be nominated for deletion. Celestina007 (talk) 11:50, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Just want to say Tosin Igho looks notable to me. My opinion is based on assessment of available sources. I know nothing about whether its COI or paid editing, but the sources and accolades for his works looks to pass WP:NDIRECTOR. I may be wrong, but that is my take and I just needed to let it out. I think it would survive an AFD. HandsomeBoy (talk) 11:39, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
@HandsomeBoy, based on the sources,
The first source appears to have no reputation for fact checking and at best falls under QS,
The second source is PR sponsored undeclared pre packaged material thus unreliable.
The third source is literally IMDb, no need explaining that.
The fourth & final source is not only a re-echo but a telephone interview thus unreliable in that context.
So in all what we really have here is a combination of unreliable sources and unreliable piece(s). I agree that if the article creator can provide a/an RS that shows the subject has won an AMVCA, then yes I agree that a case of notability can be made but based on the available sources it is a complete 0 as analyzed above.
Lest I forget, this comment; “I know nothing about whether its COI or paid editing” we have never in the course of this discussion mentioned anything related to (paid editing), rather we are talking about a (possible) conflict of interest. Thus why a conversation with the article creator has been initiated to clarify that. Celestina007 (talk) 19:26, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Can you also checkout Nathaniel Akinremi Fadipe. Dan arndt (talk) 23:40, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
@Dan arndt, thank you for the very apt drafitification, it is my opinion it wasn’t an article but an advertisement guised as one, the second article seems salvageable, Mccapra was kind enough to affix the relevant tags. Thank you once more for your diligence. Celestina007 (talk) 22:33, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
Another recent article is Omosalewa Anikulapo Kuti. Appreciate it if you could sort through the reference bombing by the article's creator. Dan arndt (talk) 00:06, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
@Dan ardnt, ah! talk about great minds thinking alike. I saw the article and almost instantaneously, did this on the grounds of a possible COI. Currently I’m in the process of weeding out (possible) deliberate ref bombing and (possible) deliberate fake referencing, some sources used in the article aren’t even about her but pertain to her father who was indeed notable but WP:INHERITED, that does zilch for her. Celestina007 (talk) 00:14, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Uganda is not covering itself with glory

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Izaaqnewton shows an "interesting" sock farm, with Hamis Kiggundu determined to have his name here. Note that the article suggests he is not above offering journalists money. You may have some useful insights on this interesting gentleman. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 19:28, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

@Timtrent, This indeed is very complex, whilst we await the CU results, what we can do at the moment is to first check the notability status of the article, if they aren’t notable I don’t see anything stopping us from sending this to AFD, secondly, we shall utterly remove all promotional material no matter how infinitesimal(I shall do this now) then we shall see how this plays out, if CU is having technical problems and behavioral conduct isn’t put into consideration then we can also report the article and it’s creator to WP:COIN. This way as explained to me by the good ol’ Bradv & Beeblebrox we would be eliminating (possible) COI editing with relatively little to no stress. Celestina007 (talk) 19:57, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
I suspect a billionaire may be notable, unfortunately. Plus he seems to have some ownership of some press organs. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hamis Kiggundu closed as draftify back in June FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 21:12, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
@Timtrent, my thoughts too after looking at the article. chances are yes they are indeed notable, fine done and dusted, they are on mainspace, if they would survive an AFD then sending them there would be an effort in utter futility, what we can however do is watchlist the article and ensure it isn’t used for blatant promotional purposes. I doubt we can do anything to stop a billionaire who is bent on having a presence on Wikipedia. More frustrating is the number of sources used, if I was looking at a Nigerian article, I can remove notorious blogs, questionable sources, and other unreliable sources relatively fast, but the sources used are from Ugandan media outlets meaning I’d have to literally “DuckDuckGo” every single source to check their reliability which honestly is daunting to even think about. I have seen editors here try to negate a billionaire, I believe it took a good percentage of the collaborative project to negate them as they employed an inordinate number of socks to vote !keeps at the AFD. Forgive the verbose, I think in summary fine they can be on mainspace but what we wouldn’t not allow is for them to use the article to promote him. Celestina007 (talk) 21:27, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
He has substantial influence in Ugandan media, it appears. He is notable, I am sure of it. I am equally sure I wood not like to be one of his paid editors because I imagine him not to be a kind mine with failure. This is speculation, of course, and I could be wholly wrong and invite him too tea! FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 22:30, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

This is good: Avoiding Unnecessary Drama

Hi Celestina! Because I watch your user & talk pages, I saw that you are drafting a new "essay" on Avoiding Unnecessary Drama. Very useful for the community! One thing that I have noticed in both myself and in other editors is to: avoid editing with one's ego. I think that many arguments and disputes on WP can be avoided if we can separate our egos from the subjects and things we are passionate about. It also helps us to not take comments by other editors the "wrong way" - meaning personally. It helps us to stay focused on content not on contributors; and it helps us from feeling "ownership". Just thought I'd share this bit of wiki-philosophy with you. Hope all is very well in your world. Netherzone (talk) 16:29, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

@Netherzone, NZ, Thanks for the kind words i really appreciate them. To be honest I’m not even sure I have the energy right now to make it into an essay, I just figured out I’d leave it on my UP and whenever I’m mentally prepared to make it into an essay, I’d notify you for the usual name suggestions (that was literally what was on my mind) My thoughts prior writing that, was to (protect new editors) especially the ones who may want to test the waters with tackling article spamming so they need not pass through the stress I was (rightfully) subjected to and learn the tough way as I did, due to my own ignorance at the/that time but hopefully they can read that and avoid the pitfalls associated with editing in that topic area, but as you rightfully said, this is beneficial to the community as a whole, be it old or new editors, anyone can benefit from knowing what I listed. “One thing that I have noticed in both myself and in other editors is to: avoid editing with one's ego” That statement couldn’t be more correct, in-fact it is (statistically speaking) a factual statement. I’ve seen good editors lose editing privileges due to attaching ego to editing. I believe that, if that write up can help even just (one) editor i would feel fulfilled. Yes NZ, thank you so much for asking, I’m in good health condition and my environment is perfect, I trust all is great with you as well. Celestina007 (talk) 16:59, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

My talk page

I just removed some information from my talk page because someone claimed I was violating the topic ban by putting it there. To me this seems to be built on an overly broad reading of the topic ban. Could you look at it to see what you think. I do not see any way the person in question could be considered a religious leader. The article on her does not even identify any religious position she ever held.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:10, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

  • The information related to a politician and media personality, and to categorization by the intersection of century lived in and ethnicity. I am not sure how anyone could interpret the person to be a religious leader at all, nothing in her article at all says that she lead any level of religion, not even mentioning any position she may have had at a local congregational level, and the categories I was talking about have absolutely nothing at all to do with religion.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:26, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diligence
This barnstar is awarded in recognition of a combination of extraordinary scrutiny, precision and community service, specifically in the detection of undisclosed paid editing, sock- and meatpuppetry. It is awarded in astonishment about the deception and lies encountered when investigating cases of such behavior. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:37, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
@ToBeFree, thanks for this It is deeply appreciated. Celestina007 (talk) 02:05, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Furthermore I’d like to thank Usedtobecool, Primefac, Valereee, Kudpung, Beeblebrox, Barkeep49, DGG & MER-C, it is they who keep my spirit alive when I’m at my lowest. Barkeep49, Usedtobecool & Primefac have made my job easier as they have time & time again assisted me by always showing me the relevant tools that have made my job a lot easier. Now fighting UPE although tedious, has become a lot easier, now all I need do is “smell a rat” & the numerous tools at my disposal does the remaining for me. I can’t thank Usedtobecool, Barkeep, & Primefac enough. Blablubbs also! Celestina007 (talk) 10:33, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
Always happy to help. Primefac (talk) 06:22, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
@Primefac, yup! & that’s why you are such a darling. Celestina007 (talk) 16:54, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Celestina007,

You're a new page reviewer so I am hoping you could look this article over. It was moved from Draft space to main space by the page creator after it was moved to Draft space by DGG. I'm not familiar with the sources and maybe you have a better understanding of whether they are reliable. I'm always a little skeptical of anyone whose job is "entrepreneur". Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 01:27, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

@Liz, Sorry for the late response I’ve been a little preoccupied with real life and work. You are very much apt and justified when you say you are skeptical about articles that contain the word entrepreneur as that is a major red flag, it seems the article isn’t on mainspace anymore(now deleted alongside the draft article) regardless i shall be keeping a close eye on the article creator(now blocked) and any other (possible) iteration of that article that may be created. Thanks for stopping by dear friend. Celestina007 (talk) 14:33, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I think you got me wrong i have no promotional material in text and the person in question is virtually the first biggest crypto developer in the entire subsaharan africa and possibly, Africa too. Highlighting the achievements are talking about notable names here at this end- I still have references from Techcrunch and a host of others, I just left my seat to set lunch. And I have my day time job to also so, incase you feel I am too slow with that. -jefak007 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jefak007 (talkcontribs) 16:00, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

@Jefaka007, “I think you got me wrong i have no promotional material in text”, Nope! wrong, this right here is literally the first revision of the article so that invalidates that statement. Secondly “the person in question is virtually the first biggest crypto developer in the entire subsaharan africa”, does not confer notability neither is it a notability criterion. “I still have references from Techcrunch”, TechCrunch is not a reliable source. “I just left my seat to set lunch. And I have my day time job to also so, incase you feel I am too slow with that”, I’m afraid I can’t make heads or tails of that statement, try again maybe? Celestina007 (talk) 16:12, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
celestina007 Hi, I was not trying to promote anything actually, sorry if it came out that way. secondly I meant i went to get food. Thirdly, we are in Subsaharan African, as it is called, Nigeria to be specific, a third world country, You'll agree with me that pioneers of the now spread and trending cryptocurrency streak are quite celebrities at this point, as it has been a major source of living and sustainance for millions of masses living in the country and other countries around. What i was trying to explain was, i was still editing, i just stepped out, and for the Nigerian space, I found a handfull of reliable sources, from Punch to Dailytrust, Businessday, Vanguard, Guardian, Newtelegraph and others. I hope you understand. Jefak007 --Jefak007 (talk) 16:28, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
@Jefak007, Please can you answer the questions in one place you are asking in multiple places making it tiresome for me to have to go to different places to answer your questions.
celestina007 Hi, I was not trying to promote anything actually, sorry if it came out that way” You owe me no apology. “and for the Nigerian space, I found a handfull of reliable sources, from Punch to Dailytrust, Businessday, Vanguard, Guardian, Newtelegraph and others. I hope you understand, I’m acquainted with Nigerian sources. Even though you are yet to expressly state that you have no COI with the subject of the article, I believe you are implying that no COI exists. Can you show me the sources you say substantiates the fact that this Businessman/Entrepreneur is notable? Can you show me the sources here? Celestina007 (talk) 16:45, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

But from the list above, you'll find that atleast half those sources are solid. —Jefak007 (talk) 17:28, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
@Jefak007, before I analyze the sources I’d like to point out that I’m unhappy you aren’t indenting properly and you have spent 10 years here, although I think you aren’t to blame as you have just 73 edits which is indicative that you aren’t a regular user. (I have gone on to indent all entries here properly) please see WP:INDENT for more information. Okay so The first source doesn’t discuss him with in-depth significant coverage, Infact the source isn’t primarily about him. Plus Nairametrics is yet to develop a reputation for fact checking. The second source is a pre packaged sponsored post. The third and final source fails to satisfy SIGCOV as the source/piece isn’t primarily about him. So if the aforementioned are your best or strongest sources then I’m afraid that article doesn’t pass out notability threshold. Furthermore you made this comment above “@celestina007 If i Understand you well, although I am not sure I do” Believe it or not I’m very fluent in all three major Nigerian languages plus the Nigerian Pidgin English as I have lived in Nigeria for 20+ years so if you want me to, I can explain it to you in the language you find most easy to comprehend and I would be more than happy to do so if it aids you. Celestina007 (talk) 19:47, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
@celestina007 For notability, I actually feel it was proven and those references out there tie his personality to those famous and trendstarting contents. and posts like this ::::[1] explain His notability, being called upon, referred notability for prime cryptocurrency events on the continent. the second, source was written by a Crypto Journalist from Coindesk, Sebastian Sinclair - And you will find that other platforms took information from that Coindesk material, even Yahoo news deemed it viable for news. Writing about trending projects is actually not prepackaged sponsored post. [2] goes on to talk about His person in an introductory manner, connecting him to all platforms and trending news. About your spoken languages, good, very good. --Jefak007 (talk) 04:03, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
@Jefak007, you have cited 3 sources in your comments above, of which I have explained to you before, but I don’t mind explaining once more. The First source you cited literally has the byline as bandpress, The second source is pre packaged material which I have explained to you before, they just copy pasted material from here which happens to be dependent on the subject of the article, so I hope you understand what pre-packaged means now, as I won’t be explaining that again. The last source you cited above has the byline as reporter which is indicative of an op-ed or an opinion piece, quite unreliable all the same. Celestina007 (talk) 04:29, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
@celestina007 Please check and observe these things well, i know you probably have a bulk of work at hand - the information was not copied from there, that Source was reiterated on the part of the website titled "International Media Coverage", where Techcrunch, Coindesk and Decypt can be found on the homepage, those articles are not original to this site, so were not copied from... On the other handm The source having reporter If you look well, you will find that to be the name of an author who can be found here, it is not a byline --Jefak007 (talk) 13:17, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
@Jefak007, if a bunch of websites that aren’t blogs are publishing the same promotional material word for word it is invariably a sponsored post & no, this literally has the byline as “reporter” & not an actual staff reporter. Celestina007 (talk) 13:50, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
@celestina007 I sincerely do not understand - Virtually all the references are news blogs, And i just explained that the host website reshared what was said about them on their own platform - Also there was no byline there as "reporter", the link is clickable with the link structure "author", staffs can choose to name their display whatever they choose - an hyperlink you can follow to see other posts written by the author. It feels the opinion has been set already and no matter what comes, nothing changes... Thank you for your time. --Jefak007 (talk) 14:35, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

@Jefak007Virtually all the references are news blogs” according to what is outlined in RS, that is a very wrong and flawed statement as all sources aren’t WP:NEWSBLOGS. “Also there was no byline there as "reporter"” wrong again, if you can just take a second to click on this it expressly states “reporter” which can be indicative of an op-ed, an editorial opinion piece or a WP:SPONSORED post (which may fall under op-Ed), in all, all these do not translate nor proof notability as the pieces from all the sources are flawed. “staffs can choose to name their display whatever they choose” Very wrong yet again as that is not quite how sourcing works, please see WP:RS. Take your time to internalize it, do not read my responses to react, rather read them to understand better. Thank you for your time as well, do enjoy the rest of your evening.Celestina007 (talk) 00:06, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

@celestina007 I have been saying it is the chosen display name of staff, not a byline - on that page, it says "AUTHOR: REPORTER", with the author's handle as "9624tund5". The same profile wrote "Socialise carefully warns Johnson, amid record UK Covid cases", would you call that sponsored too? Or would you say that had the byline reporter too? How would you call a name a secondary title? even as little as it is placed alongside the date and comments line? Everyone has rights to creativity, however they deem fit - Also, according to wiki, news platforms are trustworthy, I provided over 5 of those, you said otherwise, provided refs from the same field, refs from as far a reiteration from yahoo news to confirm that what the person is doing is notable, hence, a spill on the person, I do not know what else to do sincerely, --Jefak007 (talk) 07:14, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

I do rather like the concept of an "autopatrol stripper" but I think you meant that the UPE had had their autopatrol stripped, at AfD on Victory Obasi... (I agree with you, by the way, and thanks for your clean-up efforts on promotional articles) Elemimele (talk) 16:17, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

Need your opinion

Dear Celestina007, I have strong hunch - Revolt Motors, Super Soco and Vmoto - all three pages are paid creations. The creator is contradicting with their own edits and giving bogus justifications at all the respective AfDs. Since, it was you who first caught discrepancy at Vmoto and launched the AfD, so your opinion on other two will be highly critical. Could you assist? Also, tagging Timtrent and HighKing for their opinions. Thanks in advance. - Hatchens (talk) 01:30, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

@Hatchens, thank you for the notification, I do not believe they are genuine articles, In my opinion their verbose is indicative of the likely obvious. Celestina007 (talk) 18:01, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

@John B123, Herostratus, thanks for the holiday greetings, merry Christmas to you both and no, thank you!! really, without Herostratus I would have quit editing in my first year here due to the hostility I encountered but they were the first to be kind to me and John, your works at NPP are beyond top notch! Your excellence gives NPP hope! Happy holidays to you both!!

You are referred to here, too

The reference to you is oblique. I have decided I had to make a reply. This diff is the reply. I intend to stay out of the discussion now and let those present determine the outcome, but I have felt it necessary to point out that I had not been notified. I did tell them that they’d be inundated with editors telling them how G5's are very much applicable. Celestina007 (talk) 02:07, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
Well, either we will have a new consensus, or they will be reminded of the existing one.
I have replied to your ANI thread as I promised I would. Thank you for the notification. As usual I have tried to be measured and, yes, kind.
What I want to know is why I am editing on Christmas morning! 😂 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 09:30, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
@Timtrent, Ah! That’s a very very very very very thought provoking question that may require hours of thinking really really really hard before one can come up with an answer, Ah wait! Ive gotten the answer, it is because we are nerds 😂. Celestina007 (talk) 17:13, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
Fellow nerd, here. I have a request, one friend to another.
Please look at the difference between your responses and mine. I don't ask you to be as even handed as I am. What I ask is for you to consider how you might alter a few aspects to appear a little more serene when handling things which are blindingly obvious to you, yet not so obvious to others.
The outcome will be an increase in the respect others have for you and your work. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 20:56, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

Season's greetings and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Have a wonderful holiday season. Cheers! RV (talk) 04:03, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

Greetings

@RAJIVVASUDEV, thanks love, Merry Christmas to you and do have a happy holiday. Celestina007 (talk) 17:17, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

More Progress at Anti UPE

Timtrent assigned me a task in which the goal was to check for socking by a particular editor, I accepted this task and did this which confirmed the possibility of socking and led to yet another dismantling of another UPE ring and as direct consequence, it led to an indef block. The editor Luciapop is a sock of the LTA Ugbedeg. Celestina007 (talk) 17:31, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
