The article Clay Westervelt has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Stop![edit]

Please stop adding nonexistent categories to articles, even if these categories did exist they would be invalid and subject to deletion anyway. The articles you are tagging are already in relevant categories that identify them as films about disability. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 19:34, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for contacting me. In discussions with people in the disability community, there seems to be a lack of a page on Wikipedia for films about people with disability. There are some existing categories for documentary films about people with disabilities but not one for both documentary and narrative films. This is what I am attempting to address. The additions are based on an established list. CaptAubrey (talk) 19:39, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why this category should not exist. There is for example a category for films about sportspeople with disability, and one about documentary films about disability, yet there is no list of feature films about people with disability or a catch-all, list of films about people with disability. This is a marginalized community and it's difficult to locate media resources about disability, so why would this category be irrelevant? Many of the films I categorized were not identified in this way. CaptAubrey (talk) 19:43, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, looking a bit harder now, I see there is a category list entitled "Films about disability". It's unfortunate that's what it's titled because it should really be "Films about people with disability". The list there is quite incomplete. Is it going to be problematic if I continue what I was doing, adding films to this category? CaptAubrey (talk) 19:46, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Categories are not lists and lists are not categories, no category title should ever start with "List of...". There are categories "Lists of..." but they contain pages that are actually lists. Category:Films about disability has a number of sub-categories and those subcategories in turn may also have further subcategories. As a general rule when an article is in a given category it is not also included in that category's parent category (or categories). An article titled "List of films about disability" might be possible but it would need careful consideration as it depends on firstly proving that it is a notable topic and finding sufficient good quality sources to support the content. There is already a section about film in the article Disability in the arts and a section about documentary film in the Disability in the media article. This topic should really be thoroughly discussed at WikiProject Disability as it affects many other already existing articles. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 20:09, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Okay thanks for clarifying. It's a bit confusing because for instance there is an article entitled "List of films about mathematicians" but yes I understand, it is an article and not a category. It seems that if there is an article about films about mathematicians, then there should be a similar article about films about people with disabilities, since one in six people on the planet will have a permanent or temporary disability in their lifetimes. (BTW I did post in the WikiProject Disability a few days back and hope someone there might take it upon themselves to advance the cause of a "List of films about people with disability" and television program as well.) CaptAubrey (talk) 20:25, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

By the way - Category:Films about disability is not titled "Films about people with disability" because some of its subcategories are not about people with disabilities. Categorization is somewhat of a "dark art" and takes quite a bit of experience to get it right. Roger (Dodger67) (talk)
