db-a2

Having just deleted Hoërskool Sentraal I found that the better format for the db-template is the direct interlanguage link, i.e. af:Hoërskool Sentraal; using the URL, it is unrecognized by the software in the db template making a red link to an article by the URL name, and the dropdown deletion menu provides an automatially formatted link to the foreign article using doubled brackets, calling for such an interlanguage link. Real A2s (the majority I see are misplaced, tagging article that just happen to be foreign but having no actual existing foreign article) are relatively rare so this is new to me too:-)--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:13, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I was still trying to get the format right when it was deleted :-) I'm not sure what dropdown menu you mean, though - I use Twinkle, which doesn't have them. It looks like the correct format was - though I expect I'll have forgotten that next time I find a genuine A2! -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:20, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh, in the deletion interface, there's a dropdown menu where you can choose the reason you are deleting (see MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown). It automatically formats a reason based on the deletion template used as well, which here led to "A2: Article in a foreign language that exists on another project".--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:02, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Ah, right - not being an admin, I don't have the deletion interface -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:04, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, I see you have a userbox saying you don't wish to be one at this time, but at first blush you seem like a good prospect.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:17, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
That's very kind, thanks - I'll bear it in mind should I ever reconsider. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:46, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Bukowski was not Polish

Bukowski was not Polish. His father was not Polish-American, so enough already. Anyone who claims that Charles Bukowski's father is Polish-Americans is guilty of WIKI Vandalism. MULLINAXPLEASANTS (talk) 12:18, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I wasn't saying he's Polish - I was saying that a) we don't need excessive details about his grandparents, and b) you should not add anything that is unsourced. And being factually incorrect is NOT vandalism - if you have a content dispute, please take it to the article Talk page. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:23, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Bukowski's heritage

The Sounes biography LOCKED IN THE ARMS OF A CRAZY LIFE clearly states on page 7 that Bukowki's father was a German-American and that both of Bukowski's paternal grandparents were German. Does this bother you?

In HAM ON RYE Bukowski himself writes that his father was a German-American, on pages 10 and 11. Does this annoy you?

You do not seem to mind the other references in the article to Bukowski's being a German-American, so why are you so insistent on claiming that Bukowski's father was either Polish-American or just American?

If you continue to VANDALIZE the Bukowski article by calling Bukowski's father Polish-American, or DELETING the PROVEN references to his GERMAN ancestry, then I will have to report you to WIKIPEDIA. Thank you, kind Sir, and have a good day! MULLINAXPLEASANTS (talk) 05:47, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Let me don my new Christmas tracksuit, ruffle up my hair, and in my best Scouse accent - Calm down, Calm down!
Come on dude, I've never mentioned "Polish" - all I did was change the description of his dad from "German-American soldier" to "American serviceman" because that's what the sources in the article which I checked say, and I explained why on your Talk page in a civil manner. If that's wrong and you have a better source, that's fine - but you need to discuss it on the Talk page rather than edit-warring and screaming and shouting on people's Talk pages. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:20, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Matteo Babini

Hi Boing! I’ve corrected again a sentence of the article Matteo Babini you had copy-edited, in order to remove the template “who?” and to conform it more precisely to Merelli’s statement. This is the new text: “ According to Giovanni Morelli,[4] Babini's repertoire developed following his stays in Paris during the crucial moments of the French Revolution, in the years 1787-9, and in 1792, and shifted towards the new-fashioned historical drama and the Rousseau monodrama cantata, especially Pimmalione, which he performed around the major Italian theatres with a huge success.” I wonder if you could be so kind as to copy-edit it again. Thank you very much. --Jeanambr (talk) 18:39, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

That sounds great, thanks - I'll take another look. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:40, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

'Rubber Biscuit' Spam

Hi Boing!,
You might like to delete Category:Kent based rhythm & blues band that was created by CCNew (talk · contribs) as part of their 'spamming'. They even reverted the spam template I put on it! Regards, 220.101.28.25 (talk) 10:33, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I can't delete it myself as I'm not an admin, but I'll keep an eye on it too - I'm sure it'll get an admin's attention before too long. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:36, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Whoops! A doubt entered my bonce as soon as I saved (naturally!). I need a faster web connection as It takes me 30 sec.+ to update a page, so it took me a minute or 2 to find out you weren't! Oh well, spam reverted, that's what matters! - 220.101 talk\Contribs 10:48, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

The user formerly known as Cognitive Dissident tracked me down and wanted to revive the discussion at said article. I convinced him to post something without high levels of vitriol, and copied it over to the talkpage. There's already one very long-winded response, and given what happened in October I think this needs some outside attention; it'd be great if you could weigh in over there. I'm not interested in expressing an opinion, at least not yet, so I'm basically the messenger here. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 07:23, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Oh dear, not again. I'm not sure I've got the will for it - and I'm ill with flu at the moment. At first glance, it looks very personal, and the Shpongle sources don't look great and it might be undue weight if it's included - but I can't really get my head round it properly at the moment. I'll try to get back to it when I'm feeling better, but is there a portal somewhere we could ask for help? -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:44, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
I'll try to find someone at the music portal, maybe; my day just got a whole lot busier than I expected, so it may be a little while. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:14, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, really don't have the time or brainpower to look into this - I've kept it watchlisted, so I'll see any changes to the article itself. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:37, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I have no memory of creating this, but obviously had something in mind at the time. I see it was a redirect so I've reinstated that for now. Might have to do my homework on who she is again though. If you think it's not a useful redirect then I've no objection if you want to list it at RFD. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 10:25, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. She is mentioned in the Zlatan Ibrahimović article, so I think the redirect is fine. (To warrant her own article, she'd need to be notable in her own right, and not as the girlfriend of someone notable). -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:29, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
I agree with you. Not sure why it was started as an article. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:20, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see what's happened. You created it as a redirected back in 2008, which was fine. Then someone else, User:Kungholmsgatan, rewrote it as an article. I nominated it for deletion using Twinkle, and Twinkle notified you as the original creator, and not the user who had rewritten it. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:23, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
No worries, all's well that ends well. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:49, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I might have spoken too soon. He's recreated the article, with more information and a few refs. It makes a stronger case to keep it, but I don't know whether it's strong enough. Television presenters and models tend to be ten a penny, and she only appears to have presented a couple of programmes. If more information can be added though that proves notability then it should be all right. TheRetroGuy (talk) 14:24, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

And actually, an article about her deleted from the Swedish Wikipedia on April 2007. If they don't think she's notable enough then she doesn't really stand much of a chance of being notable here. :) TheRetroGuy (talk) 14:28, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Hehe, good point :-) I think there's enough to escape CSD:A7 at the moment - but I'll watch it for a while and maybe take it to AfD. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Dear User, Would you mind taking the time to explain why a youtube video is not a reliable source. I did read on wikipedia's site that there is not blanket ban on using youtube videos as reliable references. In the video reference supplied, the artist cites specifically that she is not compenstated for her work regarding the aritcle in question and furthermore, the sources that are used as references are self generated web pages run solely by one member of the band Phantom Blue. Thanks in advance for your time and I hope we can settle this dispute. It is not my intent to post liable or defamitory comments to this page but rather bring attention to the fact that the surviving members of this band directly related to ts project have all confirmed they are not paid for their work. I will continue to find reliable sources in the meantime, but if you shed some light onto why youtube videos are not reliable sources, your input would be appreciated.

regards,

A fellow user — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mts16talk (talkcontribs) 20:36, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

The main reason things like YouTube, Facebook and blogs are not considered reliable sources is that anyone can write anything they like on them. Also, a claim made by the subject in question is a primary source (see WP:RS) and is not sufficient support for factual claims notability. To be notable, a claim needs to be supported by multiple independent sources, so I would suggest you seek such sources if you wish to write about your allegations. If, say, a major news source or industry publication has written about the concerns, that could be used. But even then, it can only be used to describe the dispute from a neutral point of view, and not to make any judgment or draw any conclusions. Also, now that your changes have been reverted by several other editors, you will need to discuss your proposed changes on the Talk pages of the articles in question - if you engage in edit-warring to put them back you are almost certain to be blocked from editing. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 20:48, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi there, I just wanted to give you a thumbs up on the reverts for the article, as I too have it on my watch list. I have been dealing with that editor for some time now, and can't seem to get through to them that wikipedia isn't a promo tool for the MP. They continue to change the headers to all caps, add unsourced info (mostly about how great she is), and until recently was changing the article so that it refered to the subject by her first name and included the names of her dogs. One editor even seems to think he owns the copyright to her official parliament photo, which makes me suspect that someone editing may have more than a passing interest in the MP. The other reason I'm leaving this message is I was wondering if you read the section "Sebastien Togneri resignation"? To me, it seems like alot of info irrelevant to the article, just so they say she made a statement about the matter. I left it in when added as I wasn't quite sure what to do about it, and didn't want to be accused of removing sourced content even though most of it has nothing to with the subject. If you didn't read that section, could you take a look and see if it belongs as is? Thanks. Cmr08 (talk) 04:43, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the support. I hadn't read that section - all I really looked at was the recent additions of that ridiculous puffery. On first glance, it does seem to be lending undue weight to a story that's really about Sebastien Togneri rather than Coady. But then, like you, I'd be reluctant to remove it as it is sourced and she did appear to play a part in it - and maybe there should be some mention of the affair? I think any decision would need to be made by someone with some knowledge of the importance of the matter, which rules me out. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:34, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Even if he's your father, you cannot add your own judgment or point-of-view, and all I was doing was reverting those additions (as were other people). You need to have a read of WP:NPOV, and you should probably have a look over WP:COI too see learn a bit about editing with a conflict of interest. If you disagree with the content of an article and the changes you want are disputed, what you should do is discuss it on the article Talk page and try to gain a consensus - if the articles genuinely contain slander, I'll be happy to see it removed too. Georgia "POV" editing

Forgive me but my so called POV editing is backed by very many appropriate sources. I did not just pull this out of my a**s. And yes, I was a regular reader but created an account only to settle this anti-Georgian campaign and find the country its rightful place. GOCE drive news

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation
GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

I'm sorry to bother you again, I need your advice on how can I deal with User:Mactruth and his personal attacks against me in his talk page. He even changed my signature from "A Macedonian, a Greek" to "A Christian Turk wishing he was Macedonian" and then to "A Christian refugee wishing he was Macedonian"!!! In 25th of December I reported him in Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts, but as no one deal with that (why? I don't know...) he is back. I gave him a level 4 warning for now, but I am sure he won't stop. It's a similar case like User:Eddie1kanobi... Now that I'm thinking it over, could this Eddie1kanobi and Mactruth be the same person, judging by their user pages? Anyway, what shall I do? A Macedonian, a Greek. (talk) 08:43, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi. To be honest, I think your comment "It must be a tradition for you people to copy things from Greeks and others, right?" was a little provocative - it seems like a slur on his ethnic group. However, he does seem to be rather aggressive and is using his own User page to attack others, notably Greeks, so I've requested its speedy deletion as an attack page. He shouldn't be changing your signature, certainly, but please try not to provoke him or it will look like you're part of the problem. I'll watch his page and his contributions, and I'll file a report at WP:AIV or perhaps WP:ANI if I think he needs admin action. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:47, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I have to admit my comment was made under emotional pressure but only a couple of weeks after I noticed he continued copying the style of my user page, changing it in such way... However I think my reaction was done in a civil way and honestly it was not a slur on his ethnic group but rather a comment on his disrupting behaviour. I also thought report him at WP:ANI but there is this statement at ANI "To report impolite or uncivil communications with other editors, see wikiquette alerts" and I already did that on December 25th but there was not action. Well, I hope civility will prevail. Thank you for bothering with this. A Macedonian, a Greek. (talk) 11:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I think it's more personal attacks/vandalism/POV-pushing that we need to consider here, if it continues - WQA only seems to work in cases of inadvertent incivility. It is an area fraught with ethnic difficulties, and emotional reactions are not surprising, so it might be better if any reports of any problems come from an uninvolved party (my ancestry is Anglo-Saxon/Celtic, so I have no ethnic ties to the dispute). So as I say, I'm happy to keep an eye on things for a while, and we can see how things go - but do drop me a note if I miss anything. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:14, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

User:Mactruth

Hello, Boing! said Zebedee. I have just taken the unusual step of declining a speedy deletion nomination of yours. (Unusual, because normally your nominations are totally sound.) The page in question is User:Mactruth. I see what you mean, but I don't think it is really an attack page. It exists to express a very strongly held view, and does not hold back from vehemently criticising those on the other side of the argument, but I don't see that as being the same as "a page that serves no purpose but to disparage or threaten its subject". I think you would have a much better case for deletion under CSD G11 as a page which exists only to promote a particular view, but there is a question as to how far a user is allowed to describe their own political view in their own user page, and I am reluctant to delete it. You may well like to try re-nominating the page under CSD G11 and see if another admin will be less hesitant than me. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:54, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the explanation. I agree it isn't "wholly" attacking, but I do think sections like "How propaganda works" and "Articles of irresponsible treatment of Macedonians by Greece" are too far over the attacking line. Maybe just some sections should be deleted, but I'm very wary of taking such action myself on a User page. I think I might take it to AN/I to see what people there think. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:58, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, certainly - as long as you've seen the messages and you're happy with them, please do feel free to remove them. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 01:40, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Fine.

Maybe you can have a look at these:

If all have a consistent naming there is more chance to bring the various articles and lists in order. With so many different naming formats, one cannot guess where an article resides. If names are fixed then List of Indian princely states and List of Indian princely states (alphabetical) can be cleaned up. TopoChecker (talk) 01:45, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure, I'll be happy to have a look at those - it might need a discussion somewhere to decide on the best naming convention, maybe at the Project India page, but we can do that. Sleepy time for me now - good night :-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 01:48, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Regarding your decline of A7 for this article, I think was incorrect. The claim that she has been on stage, radio, etc is not referenced. Author did not provide that per WP:BURDEN. I've tagged it to be wikified, but it may come to AfD later. Phearson (talk) 01:01, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree it's not referenced, and unreferenced might bring it to AfD, but the claim alone is enough to avoid A7. Avoiding A7 only requires a claim of importance, not evidence. As it says at WP:CSD#Articles, "This is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability". Best regards -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 01:10, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I think you just protested about my son's wiki page? Please could you tell me why you have done this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lynnette1964 (talkcontribs) 15:12, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Two reasons. Firstly, the page contained unsourced negative allegations (which I will not repeat here), which is contrary to Wikipedia's policies regarding biographies of living persons. Secondly, even without those allegations, the article contained no indication of the importance required to justify a Wikipedia article - you can find some general guidelines regarding notability at WP:N, and a guide to the kind of sources we would need at WP:RS. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:22, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

"Macedonia" is a region in Greece.

"Macedonia' is a region in greece. The Former Yugoslan republic of Macedonia is the officially recognized name of the country north of Greece.United Nations recognizes "Former Yugoslan Republic of Macedonia".This is why wikipedia is considered unreliable.(Ny proof reader (talk) 20:15, 30 January 2011 (UTC))

If you have a content disagreement, take it up on the Talk page of the article in question - and if you can get a consensus for your version, then you can make your change. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 20:19, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I've only just realised what you're talking about. In the article Balkans, you changed the template MKD to FYROM. However, there is no such template as FYROM, and you left the article with a red link. Anyway, if you think that Wikipedia should change to not use the word "Macedonia" for the country, and replace its templates, etc, you'll need to gain a consensus to do so. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 20:44, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Get going!

The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive has begun. Please get started, as the drive aims to wikify over 2,000 articles this month. We're going to need all the firepower we can get, so please remind your friends to join up as well. In case you didn't know, wikification is fairly simple: just add wiki markup, links, and similar formatting. Thanks for joining; we're looking forward to an exciting time this month!

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:19, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Disruptive editing

User talk:173.66.230.41 has been removing information about population from various pages, despite warning. Not exactly vandalism, so not sure whether to report to WP:AIV. Where does it get reported? Thanks, Chipmunkdavis (talk) 02:59, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

I'd go for WP:AIV as a first option, I think - as long as an editor has had 4 valid warnings, the admins at AIV are usually willing to act. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:45, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Malleus block

He wasn't blocked for being sensible, he was blocked for being insulting. Minor difference in those two edits. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:41, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I understand the claimed reason for the block. But as it was made 10 hours after the comment, there's no way it can be seen as preventative. And that makes it an abuse of blocking policy - made worse by the blocker's stubborn insistence that they were right despite near-unanimous oppositon at AN/I, and their picking at the scabs after Malleus was unblocked and the section was collapsed. And while I might not have used the words in that second diff myself, I can't disagree with the sentiment - the suggestion that Malleus was referring to was pretty close to clueless in my view, and the suggester wasn't helping with the "Your initial answer was sufficient. Why you had to add more later is beyond me" comment, which was addressing Malleus's motives and not the content issue. I do have great respect for you as an admin, Sarek, but if you're defending this block, then I think you are badly wrong. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 20:02, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
It's over and done with now. There was ANI etc etc etc; he's not unblocked and back to editing the wiki. Tofutwitch11 (TALK) 20:18, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Guess you missed it when the blocking admin just tried to get him reblocked.--Cube lurker (talk) 20:24, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
And he's not back to editing, as, quite understandably, this has pissed him off and he's withdrawn his labour - which is most definitely a loss to the project. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:33, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Also,i read your comment about me on Beeblebrox's page and i've decided i'm not going to get banned again so i will be extremely careful and if i don't know i'll just press the pass button or undo the edit. Because I really don't want to be banned again. Oh and, nice to speak to you again! Gobbleswoggler (talk) 12:43, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I would revert that change myself, but not using STiki, and not as "vandalism" - I'd probably just use "Undo" and comment it something like "Undo good faith removal of content". The names removed in that edit do seem to have some reasonable claims of notability, and we don't want edit summaries actually in the article - but it does look like good faith.
If I can give you some general advice - while people are often happy to help, I don't really have time for answering a lot of "Shall I revert this?" questions, and I'm sure a lot of others don't either. So what I'd suggest is that if you are not 100% certain that an edit should be reverted and are not 100% certain of the appropriate warning to be given, just leave it and move on to the next one - someone else patrolling changes is almost certain to see it before too long. Anyway, I've given you some more advice on your talk page, and I'll just repeat the most important piece again here - Slow Down :-)

GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
 • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
 • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
 • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
 • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.

Well edit it and add a comment under mine saying exactly what you want! -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:52, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
And listen up, Gobbleswoggler - numerous people have told you numerous times to stop trying to do things you don't understand properly and which are beyond your competence. So do your football stats, do some very slow and careful reverts of blatant vandalism, and NOTHING ELSE. Do not file SPI reports, and do not venture into any other areas, unless you can get some adoption/mentorship from someone willing to take the time to try to teach you. To be honest, I'll be surprised if you last the day without being blocked again. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:56, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
And having looked closer, your sockpuppet report looks badly wrong to me. Firstly, it is common, and not prohibited, for someone to start editing using an IP address and then go on to register an account to edit. And secondly, you should not accuse two people of being sockpuppets just because they both edited the same article - especially not when they made very different edits. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:13, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
I put this because i thought it was a bit more of a coincidence that two new editor were,to me vandalising. Watdurp was calling Kilheeney a cheater and Fergyc123 was showing him handballing a football which i counted as vandalism so i thought one person has created two accounts both for vandalism.Gobbleswoggler (talk) 13:17, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Nope, the only edit User:Watderp made was this, which says nothing about cheating. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:33, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi

I am not familiar with the talk page system, but I hope I got it right this time.

I send you this message regarding the articles of Alexshinia. I hope the following facts will help in making matters more clear:

1) The country exists only in a book, while the organization is yet too anonymous to be known. 2) All members, including the book's writer, are anonymous on the Internet. 3) If you are still not satisfied enough to let the articles remain once I rewrite them, ask anything you need to know and I shall do my best to answer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ninja of Tao (talkcontribs) 13:11, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. If the book is as yet unknown, and the authors are anonymous, then they have not achieved the notability needed for a Wikipedia article. To be considered notable, what you want to write about (the book itself, and the details about Alexshinia), must have been covered by multiple independent source which you can quote in the article. Have a read of WP:N to learn something about Wikipedia's notability requirements, and WP:RS to find out about reliable sourcing of articles. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:16, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

The sources are me, my organization and the books that will be published in 2012. If that isn't enough, then I am currently working on a new wiki only containing Alexshinia-related information.

No, that is not enough - as I said, you need multiple independent sources. Please do read WP:RS. Good luck with your new wiki -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:28, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Well that's good, we're agreed then - the Wikipedia article should be written neutrally, with sources reflecting both sides, and no excuses should be used to paint it one-sided. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:23, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism

TO Boing! I am sorry for doing vandalism. I did it for a weird reason "I don't know" so I will not do vandalism anymore, well my friend did it all right! He forced me to give my account name and password so when I was not there he edited it. but still there is vandalism, I tell you My teacher, She told to me that never use Wikipedia! that is because her uncle some coach from the US, she said in wikipedia Her uncle died in a Plane crash when actually, he is still alive.

thanks, Emirates777saeed! :-)

I did not vandalize anything on 1999 NATO Bombing of Yugoslavia. NATO did not achieve any of its goals, they killed civilians instead of the military. You think that they won because they killed civilians, I highly doubt it. Lessons of Kosovo, it was from WHUC and was uploaded on YouTube and has spectacular truths and overviews of the operation and I cannot believe I could not put true things on this page. If this is an encyclopedia, how come I cannot put the truth on the results. Who cares if NATO did not win against us. USA lost in Vietnam, and half the time I believe that you people revert it. You cannot add your own analysis and your own reasoning to Wikipedia articles - but if you disagree and you want to make changes after they have been reverted by a number of other editors, please discuss it on the article Talk page first and gain a consensus. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 23:00, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Bill Sohonage deletion

This article was deleted for lack of references, despite links to Newspaper Archived articles and a live interview recordings available on You Tube at the Boston Comedy Festival in which Lenny Clark discusses Bill Sohonage as being one of the "unsung heroes of comedy" ...his words. While working on a book about the history of modern stand-up comedy, Sohonage's name has popped up a few times referenced by comedic household names. More often then not, there are funny stories about Sohonage in which he played some important role. So it was the cumulative references to Sohonage that suggested to us he should be somehow included on Wiki. My co-author tried to post something here a while back on Sohonage and was unsuccessful, this is just another attempt. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NewYorkMind (talkcontribs) 12:15, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. The article wasn't deleted, it's just been tagged to say it will be deleted if it doesn't have some references added. To keep it you'll need to find at least one actual reference that we can check - if he's notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia, it shouldn't be too hard to find at least one reliable online source. (But I did a quick Google search and found nothing other than the new Wikipedia article and stuff like Facebook). -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:24, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

How can i create a artile in minutes. It needs weeks of work.

Can you please do someting.

--Its019 (talk) 14:47, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do personally (I'm not an admin, so I can't access deleted pages to see what might have been wrong with them). I think your first action should be to contact the admin who deleted the pages, Ben MacDui (talk · contribs), and ask what was wrong and if they're prepared to undelete them for a little while to give you time to work on them and bring them up to Wikipedia quality. Failing that, I'd suggest a couple of other options. You could go for a deletion review, in which you can ask others to examine the correctness of the deletion - see WP:DRV for details. Or alternatively, perhaps you could create an article completely offline (using a word processor or text editor), written neutrally, and properly referenced, and only submit it once it's finished? (But do bear in mind that you'd still have to avoid whatever problems got your drafts deleted in the first place) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:18, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Roman - Article Logo Upload

Dear Sir,

I have prepared my article and completed it.

But I tried to upload company logo but coudnt do it.

Please Can you help me to upload the company logo and before that move the article from user space to main article.

I can provide you the links:

My Article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Roman9930/Taj_Agro_International

The companys Logo Link: Website "tajagroproducts.com/images/tajag.jpg"

Logo Name on the article: Taj_Agro_International.jpg

If you have time and you can do it I will be grateful.

regards,

--Roman9930 (talk) 13:17, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

I've uploaded the logo with a fair-use rationale at File:Taj Agro International.jpg, and I've moved the article to main space at Taj Agro International. I noticed that the company's web site, www.tajagroproducts.com, appears to be blacklisted by Wikipedia - it may have been abused in the past. I suggest you give the article a little time to be accepted as sufficiently notable, and then we can look at perhaps getting it off the blacklist. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:17, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your help.

Your advice is right and welcomed.

regards, --Roman9930 (talk) 15:40, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

I've just been going through that article - the latest attempt by Taj to get in here. I'd appreciate you having a look and saying what you think about the references and claims. In their last ones at AfD, the referencing was haywire. Here, it appears to be mainly unreliable sources, including prwire and the company itself. (The one about the founder contained links to two other people of the same name and other interesting things...) Thanks if you can look. Peridon (talk) 18:11, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Forgot to mention - there has been rampant sockpuppetry in the course of these articles coming and going. Peridon (talk) 18:13, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for letting me know - I guess that explains the blacklisting of the URL. My first look over the article made me think it's a company on the margin of notability, and that it could go either way - hence my comment above about giving it some time to see if it's accepted as notable. I'll certainly have a closer look (tomorrow if I have the time) and will get back to you. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:31, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Have a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ranvir Kumar Singh (and the SPI quoted) - good background. Peridon (talk) 22:35, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't have time to take a detailed look at the article - I was just about to but I see it has been deleted. If I'd initially realised it had been previously deleted after a discussion, I would not have helped in its creation. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:33, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
I didn't know this particular one had been AfD'd - unless you've got a good memory or are an admin it can be hard to tell. I'd have csd tagged it if I'd known. You acted in good faith, as I would have done if I'd not been involved with some of their stuff at AfD. I think we can assume that anything with Taj in it (except Taj Mahal - that's not a part of their group, well, to be exact, they haven't claimed it is yet) has been AfD'd or speedied - or at least ought to be if it's new.. They'll be back. At least, they will if not salted. Peridon (talk) 19:43, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
OK, thanks, my eyes are better peeled now. Oh, and I think Taj Air is part of Tata group - I removed it from the Taj Group template (which is also now deleted) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:49, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

You'd think those two would have given up by now; I've just checked over there for the first time in several weeks, and the vitriol doesn't seem to have faded. I'm not terribly interested in wading into that morass unassisted, but I don't think it's so bad that we need to dial 911 just yet; any ideas? The content noticeboard note I left a few weeks ago didn't get much attention. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 07:38, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Uh-oh, seems Cognitive Dissident has decided to post something at ANI; I suppose some attention from there wouldn't be too horrible. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 07:57, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know - I've got a bit of a backlog of things that need my attention, but I'll see if I can have a look over it later. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 09:57, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Guys this truly has gone on for too long and has gotten way beyond personal. I have found out who this person is and the article has nothing to do with his personal "beef" with me. He is seriously not well and I have no choice but to initiate proceedings against him to protect myself and my family from personal harm. I thank you for the points outlined in the ANI section and your constant vigilance in the article itself. I do think it's time to give this a conclusion so any help in that regard would be greatly appreciated. Hi Boing I see you made a formatting change to the page above, thankyou for your input. Does this mean you have reviewed the page? And if so, can you take it out of unreviewed status? Thanks apiano (talk) 15:14, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I've just been over to do exactly that, but I've been beaten to it - it's already done :-) I took out the empty External links section containing example.com while I was there this time. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:17, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks again Boing. I'm about to put up another page, shall I let you know so you can have a look? I've also got one on the Broadcast Journalism Training Council which is still unreviewed, if you want to cast your eye over it. See you, apiano (talk) 10:54, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Yep, sure - by all means let me know and I'll be happy to have a look at them. Probably won't have time today, but should have some free time tomorrow (if I haven't been beaten to it again by then) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:07, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

BTW, how come some pages get reviewed really quickly and some seem to have been up and unreviewed for ages? I'm a newbie, in case you hadn't noticed. Is it just if it's a boring title? Or is there more system to it than that? apiano (talk) 15:10, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I honestly don't know really - as far as I know people just pick whatever takes their fancy from the New Pages list at Special:NewPages, and you can see there's quite a lot there if you page back. I suspect a lot of people concentrate on titles that look suspicious, focusing on weeding out problematic ones as quickly as possible - so on that score at least, you're probably doing well :-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:16, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Why one link per disambiguation?

Just curious. It seems reasonable that the song should link to the album and the artist. Could I make it so that The Champ redirects to Fishscale (like this: [[Fishscale|The Champ) and then it says "a song by Ghostface Killah? Deuceofdiamonds (talk) 12:43, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I'll change it again now to reflect this rule and to reach the song in question. Deuceofdiamonds (talk) 12:47, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
I've added a bit more to your Talk page - thanks for your contributions. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:48, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
No problem. The page for Champ is now protected. Can you change the Ghostface Killah one to read *The Champ is a song by Ghostface Killah. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deuceofdiamonds (talkcontribs) 13:01, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I think it's probably better the way it is. I think it's better for disambig entries to be explicit about what they're linking to, and it currently makes it clear that the link is to the album rather than the song. And it also leaves it open in case the song itself should ever be considered sufficiently notable for its own article. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:37, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Early return

Now, this is why we need to apply Snow Closes to RFAs. There are over four days left, the outcome is clear, and all you're going to do is annoy those RFA candidates who garnered 40 or 50 opposes in the time that you've only managed to eke out 1. Let me beat the crowds in congratulating you, albeit prematurely, and thanks as well for the explanation. I'm now more at ease with my support of your candidacy, knowing it is not some profanity in a foreign language. Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 13:56, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks: [2]. Your edit caused it to pop on my watchlist, where I realized the editor who introduced the original copyvio had also reverted my cleaned up, sourced, categorized version.[3] S/he hasn't been back since then, so I didn't issue a warning, but I'm going to be traveling through most of March, so I'm wondering if you'd mind watchlisting that article for a bit in case it happens again?

While I'm here, congrats on your RFA! I didn't weigh in since I seem to be some sort of kook magnet at RFA, but it would have been my usual, "know of no reason to oppose, but don't know the candidate well enough to Support, have seen good work". By the way, my son was stung by a tarantula, and it made him good and sick, but nothing even worth a trip to the doctor-- just fever and blistering. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:05, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Ah, the unexpected benefits of the Typo Team :-) I've got it watchlisted now, so I'll keep an eye on it - enjoy your travels. Thanks for the RfA best wishes too. And yes, those and occasional muscle spasms are the usual symptoms of tarantula bites - I know people who have been bitten dozens of times (some deliberately, for research), though I've managed to avoid it myself. And there are no antivenins, so there's little a doc could do other than try to address symptoms should they become unusually severe. Cheers -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:17, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Just curious-- do we say "bitten" or "stung"? My understanding back then (20 years ago in Venezuela) was that he had actually been brushed by those furry things on the tarantula, creating a sting on his leg. He saved the tarantula, his older brother took it to school for Show and Tell (huge), and he kept it preserved for years after it died-- gross. I eventually found a ball of crud in a jar and threw it away ! Thanks again. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:25, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Urticating hairs - they can be nasty if they get in your eyes or up your nose, but they won't leave a sting and shouldn't cause any injury to skin. It sounds like he must have actually got a bite from its fangs too. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:37, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Urticating! Nice new word to add to my vocabulary. OK, guess he was bitten after all! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:39, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I hadn't seen this - it's possible he had an allergic reaction to the hairs. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:44, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
That's what it looked like; he was outside playing in the garden, started screaming, I dealt with it and got him put to bed, and only found the tarantula in the garden when I went back to pick up his toys. I've been spreading misinfo ever since, telling people that tarantulas don't bite, they sting-- guess I was only partially right. Then there were the 20+ scorpions I tossed out of his bedroom when he was a baby ... SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:50, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
This is quite a good shot of actual fangs. My biggest one has fangs that are a bit over half an inch long - she gets a lot of respect :-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:00, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

 1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
 2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
 3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
 4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
 5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
 6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Brownies and beer

I'd like to thank everyone who took part in my RfA, and also those who nagged me to run for it over the course of the past year - it was a humbling experience.

Here's some brownies and beer for the celebration - just sorry they can only be virtual. But if I should ever meet any of you in real life, the real versions can be substituted.

Now, who can I block? Bwawhahahaaa!!! -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:26, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

The administrators' mop and bucket, use this liberally. Now you have these, you shouldn't have to suffer the t-shirt, as it won't be all you've got ;-)

99.4% support? Wow! You must have done a lot of bribing. That or you have the community's confidence in a big way. I wonder which?

When you've recovered from the effects of too many brownies and too much beer, and tried on the teeshirt and found it doesn't fit, you may want to look at some serious advice. I recommend looking round to see what you can poach to put in User:Boing! said Zebedee/monobook.js. There's lots of good stuff to go in there that can be really useful to admins, and copying from others who have already found it is a good way to get it. Also, put a handy link to Template:Admin dashboard somewhere, if you haven't already: it's pretty useful. I trust you will look into Wikipedia:New admin school, and when you've done so you may or may not find Wikipedia:What you won't learn in new admin school helpful: I did, but it's a matter of personal taste. Do ask other admins for advice and instructions. You will, I am sure, soon become a very proficient administrator, but while you are getting there I'm sure we will all be happy to give you help when you can use it. JamesBWatson (talk) 21:26, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice - I've had a good look through Wikipedia:New admin school and Wikipedia:What you won't learn in new admin school, and over the next few days I'll grab links to lots of useful admin-related pages. Thanks for the Template:Admin dashboard link - I hadn't found that. I'll be sure to poach scripts from wherever I find them, and I'll certainly ask for help and advice. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:33, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Sigh. You have been told numerous times in your different registrations that Wikipedia works by consensus, and you cannot just add your own personal reasoning and conclusions to articles against the consensus. If you want to make controversial changes to articles, you must discuss them on the Talk page FIRST, and get a consensus BEFORE you make the changes. Amazing

Hi, it was just a test to see how Wikipedia works. Indeed, I do not care for "neutrality", as obviously history is written by the victors. In the case of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, I fail to see why you do not include at least a disclaimer that is is a disputed territory and that the Indian terminology "Pakistan occupied Kashmir" should apply with equal validity.

More than anything else, I am fascinated that there actually are people out there keeping a vigilant eye on Wikipedia. What a thankless endeavour! And are you actually paid to do this? Otherwise it must be a terrible waste of one´s life to do this in your free time.. ? Anyway, won't bother you now, good luck with keeping up politically correct but morally unjust "truths".

Good day — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kabulshah (talkcontribs) 12:08, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. If you have a look at the Kashmir article, you'll see it covers the current political status of the region.
It is not the job of an encyclopedia to take sides in political disputes and try to make moral judgments, so we really have to stick with neutrality - sticking with the currently used political borders does not imply support for them.
Also, if we allowed you to add "Pakistan occupied Kashmir" all over the place to push your own political view, we would also have to allow pro-Pakistan editors to add "Indian occupied Kashmir" - and we'd get constant edit-warring between the two sides.
And finally, as you asked - no, Wikipedia editors and admins are not paid for their work.
Best regards -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:21, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I deleted the article IGC (Independent Gaming Community) because it did not appear to make any credible claim of significance or importance, as described by Speedy Deletion criterion A7. If I were to undelete it in its old location, the chances are someone else would delete it. However, if you believe you have more material that is sufficient to avoid A7, I'll be happy to copy the deleted content to user space ("userfy" it) - if you don't wish to register an account yourself, I could userfy it to the original author's space. You could then work on it and move it back when you're happy it can survive A7 - but please do note that for it to survive in the long term, you will need to provide sufficient reliable independent sources to demonstrate notability. If you would like me to userfy it, please let me know. (But I'm off to bed shortly, as it's very late where I am, so it will have to wait until tomorrow - though you are welcome to ask another admin to userfy it for you) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 02:05, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Fillyacup Prop page

It's been created and deleted three times today, with various content, with zero support from any Internet sources or searches - and even with the best will in the world, it can't possibly be seen as a valid Wikipedia article. Couple of things

Letting you know GodOverCults is at it again at Jesus Christians. I've reverted some possibly libellous stuff - totally unsourced. I've issued a biog-2 warning (which looks a bit tame). Secondly, I've been reading My76Strat's posts at RfA. I was wondering if you shared my impression that he's not a native English speaker, or quite possibly brought up in an educated Indian background? I had an Indian mate at school, and in recent years have had a fair bit to do with both Indians and Pakistanis - apart from in AfDs here... This chap's rhythm and vocabulary seem to fit, as does his use of 'Sir,'. I'm keeping out of that discussion (never really come across him, and plenty of others seem to have), but I feel that if he doesn't change his speech /writing pattern he'll never get there. I can get legalistically polysyllabic at certain (for good reasons or effect), but I don't think he knows he's doing it. Writing like that is probably natural to him. This just an opinion... I wouldn't care to raise it there myself. Peridon (talk) 16:03, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Ah, thanks - I've got Jesus Christians watched now, and I'll keep an eye on the editor too. And I'd actually had similar thoughts about My76Strat too - I'm quite familiar with people from the Indian sub-continent. It would be great to have more admins with that ethnicity, if that is indeed his ethnic origin, so I do hope he can come through next time - but I don't think I'd really want to raise the subject myself either -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:43, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I've got it on watch too (along with a peculiar mix including Everclear and a bus company somewhere in New England). Thanks for your support, by the way. I've now got a mop and am trying to work out which end goes in the bucket. I agree that we could do with more Indians on the team - they might be able to get the message through at AfD where we sometimes struggle. And with the proliferation of Indian subject articles, too. Hi. The problem is that there wasn't really any claim of significance or importance. For a musician to be eligible for a Wikipedia article, they need to satisfy some minimum notability requirements, which are described at Wikipedia:Notability (music). And that notability needs to be supported by multiple independent sources. Should Johnny Death satisfy those criteria, and if you can find suitable sources to support it, you could then recreate the article. Best wishes -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 23:05, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I am concerned about the apparent deletion of the above article today without any prior discussion. I had removed a speedy deletion tag from this article earlier today, and was very surprised to log on just a few hours later to see that the article has been deleted on the grounds of being wholly promotional.

I find these grounds for deletion puzzling on two grounds. Firstly the content of the article, whilst admittedly lacking citations and of poor quality, was not particualry glowing or positive. Secondly, this is a university hall of residence with capitive customers and does not stand to benefit from any promotion. The hall of residence is always full, and always will be, without any promotion.

Ramsay Hall is a large and architecturally distinctive and imposing building right in the centre of London. On this ground alone an article is in my view probably justifiable. However it is also the most well known hall of residence of one of the most famous universities in the world and has been home to some notable students: [5], [6]

Although I can understand why some may disagree and believe an article on the subject to not be reasonable, that is not grounds for speedy deletion but should be discussed properly and a consensus reached. I am very puzzled by this deletion.Rangoon11 (talk) 00:45, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Apologies - it looked promotional and was so tagged, and I hadn't noticed that the speedy tag had been removed and re-added. I've restored the article now. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 00:48, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I will make sure to tidy up the article ASAP. Plenty of citations can be added but are a bit hard to locate e.g. [7]. Thanks again. Rangoon11 (talk) 00:52, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Greetings, Boing! said Zebedee. It would appear that an article about the musician Pete Sears was deleted a few times in the last several days, including most recently a speedy deletion for criterion A7, no indication of importance. I believe that Mr. Sears is a notable subject, and if I can find time to work on it, I'd be interested in creating an article with reliable references that establish this. Would you please copy the deleted article to my sandbox at User:Mudwater/draft9? I don't know what the article said, but that would give me a starting point for this possible project. Thanks. Mudwater (Talk) 01:39, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

I've restored it and moved it to User:Mudwater/draft9, so you have the full history of the article too in case there's anything in any old version that might be of some use to you. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 01:45, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Mudwater (Talk) 01:47, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
I saw this when the related edit to Jack Casady popped up on my watchlist and am surprised that an article on a well-known musician like Pete Sears would be deleted. Glad someone is working on it. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 02:12, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
The article as it was before deletion contained nothing more than "Peter 'Pete' Sears is an English rock musician who plays for Silver Metre. He has played keyboards and bass guitar with a variety of people", which really contained no claim of importance at all. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 02:15, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm adding bits. I think it got stomped on (vandalized?) at some point, because I recalled a much longer article which seems to be restored now. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 02:21, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Oh wow, yes, that looks like a serious article - I guess I should have looked further than the recent repeated deletions. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 02:26, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Hey there. Sorry to bug ya about something that probably you would rather not have to deal with now, but I figured since I am a little rusty (back for 2 days), and you are close to the issue I'd talk to you.

As you will see from reading her talk page, VictoriaJusticeFan1 has posed quite a few problems ranging nonfree images to articles that are not notable to page moves that are not justified. It seems as though it is not that she is purposefully disrupting the system, but that she lacks knowledge, as you will also see in a thread there. However, she has had plenty of time to become knowledgeable about Wikipedia and its policies and seems to be making no progress towards "figuring Wikipedia out". I never EVER want to push a user out for trying, but this really is becoming an issue, and I am not sure what action should be taken.

Now I see that the creator of the article is VictoriaJusticeFan12 who was most likely created by Victoria herself and may be a sock puppet. Things just keep getting crazier and I was hoping to get an opinion on the matter. Thanks! MobileSnail 00:54, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

As it happens, I was just looking over those two registrations, and I was coming to the same conclusions. I think it is just a bit of cluelessness from a young person who is acting in good faith, and I wouldn't like to push her away either. I think what it needs is probably for someone to try to get a dialog started with her - explain about only using one account, point her to relevant policies, and generally just offer to help (and maybe suggest she might benefit from mentoring?) She did respond on that discussion about user page links, so there must be hope. It's past time for my bed here now, so I'll sleep on it, and I could try to start a chat with her when I have some free time tomorrow. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 01:16, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
I too, had that epiphany and recently begun one myself. Thanks for your willingness to help. I think that is the right thing to do, and hopefully she will eliminate her mistakes. MobileSnail 01:20, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Why did you delete my page? I was in the middle of improving it because the help pages are too confusing to do everything at once. Unicownicorn (talk) 02:35, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. As it stood, it made no claim of any significance or importance in line with the Wikipedia speedy deletion guidelines. What you really need to do is find some reliable sources which demonstrate notability, and start with those. It's probably better if you work on it in your own user space until you get it into a state that's good enough to avoid speedy deletion A7 (no importance claimed), so I'll userfy the deleted article into your userspace for you to work on - I'll be back in just a moment. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 02:39, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
OK, I've restored it to User:Unicownicorn/Englert Kid, where you can work on it and then move it back into article space when it's ready. But if you want it to survive, it is vital that you find those sources that attest to the notability of the "Englert Kid" concept - without them, it is sure to be deleted again. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 02:44, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.

Progress report

We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Hello Boing

I've created this page Journalism,_Media_and_Communication,_University_of_Central_Lancashire and wondered if you would review it for me? I previously created pages on Polly Billington and the Broadcast Journalism Training Council, which you reviewed for me. This is a bit more ambitious, so hope it suits. I know I'll have to link back to the main uni site, but I thought I'd leave messing about with other pages until after you've had a look.

Best wishes to you and yours apiano (talk) 16:02, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry I haven't had a chance to review it - I haven't really had my "reviewing" head on. The article is still there at Journalism, Media and Communication, University of Central Lancashire, but I suspect it's just dropped off the back of the New Pages list - I'll try to have a look at it when I have the time -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:10, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

RewardVille page should not have been deleted.

The Rewardville page here 8 should not have been deleted. This is a valid gaming page central to Zynga which makes many games, including Vampire Wars, Frontierville, and many others that millions of users enjoy. It is very relevant and I have no idea why it was mass deleted. Millions of people play Zynga games. Please return the page to wikipedia so that people who want to understand what RewardVille is can read about it.

If you are looking for "explanation of the subject's significance (web content)," the following article can help: [9]. Missyagogo (talk) 20:55, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. The article made no claims of significance or importance, and had no sources other than zynga.com itself, and so it did not satisfy the criteria needed to escape Speedy Deletion A7. If you believe you can provide suitable evidence of notability, which is what will be needed for the article to survive long term, I'd be happy to userfy it (that is, restore it to your userspace) so you can work on it. Let me know if you'd like me to do that. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:01, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, and thank you for your response. From what I have read, this article doesn't meet the criteria for Speedy Deletion. I also looked up notability, and part of it states, "For articles of unclear notability, deletion should be a last resort. If an article fails to cite sufficient sources to demonstrate the notability of its subject, look for sources yourself, or: Ask the article's creator or an expert on the subject[6] for advice on where to look for sources. Place a notability tag on the article to alert other editors." I do not consider myself an expert on the article's subject, but I would be happy to look for some third-party sources if that is what you need to keep the article from being deleted. If it needs something other than sources, "claims of significance or importance," I will have to look at the article, but Cityville, one of Zynga's games and one of the fastest growing social mediums ever (see source below), seems significant. As far as additional sources, I have two. One is from this week and states that Zynga may be heading toward an initial public offering, with Rewardville having at least something to do with how much time people play Zynga games. [10] Another article states 250 million people play Zynga games and talks about how much the company has grown since its inception, and uses Cityville as an example. [11] Both were written this month. If you'd like to put the article on my userspace that would be fine, although I have never had responsibility for an article before, so I may want help from some other editors. I envision one or two paragraphs to define what RewardVille is. I did not picture a detailed article. I almost feel that, given what is happening with Zynga, (its growth, possible IPO, and success) it seems the significance of this product, RewardVille, that ties all of their games together seems self-explanatory, or at the very least, the "significance and importance" is there. Thank you. Missyagogo (talk) 01:29, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I've userfied it for you - it's at User:Missyagogo/RewardVille, and you can work on it there to add sources etc. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:17, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

blanking empty talk pages

I know that blanking would solve the problem with wildbots messages, but then the talkpage link would be blue instead of read and somebody/reader could imagine there is an discussion. Why else had Josh (the maintainer of wildbot) added wildbot the ability to delete empty talkpages after the bot removed the message? mabdul 16:08, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

I just deleted yet another recreation of this, but at a slip of a mouse I clicked the wrong deletion criterion. Does this matter? --Kudpung (talk) 03:01, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

I've done that twice already. For one I deleted a BLP as an A9 (song), and I restored and re-deleted it so that I didn't look too stupid. I forget what the other one was, but I just left it - and nobody has complained yet -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:31, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see you did it as A9 too. I wouldn't worry - it's had two deletions before that, so it's clear enough what it's about -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:33, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Republika Srpska

This has been reverted, but just so you know, Republika Srpska is a territorial designation of an area in the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH). It isn't Serbia by any means. That is like saying New Mexico is called Mexico in English. Similar name but HUGE difference.--Terrillja talk 23:28, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Ah, I clearly got that one wrong. I'd reverted a number of edits by an IP who had also been making some non-neutral pro-Serbia changes, and I'd assumed that was one more of them. I'll check back and see if I made the same mistake anywhere else. Many thanks for letting me know -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:49, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Pursuing the task force idea ... would you be interested in participating, and if so, would it be possible for you to round up some people who share your views and keep in touch with them as the task force makes recommendations? - Dank (push to talk) 21:03, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

I don't think I'd be able to, sorry - mainly because my available time is erratic, and I can't really commit to being able to dedicate my time to it for the likely duration - I've had plenty of time of late, but I could be dragged away at short notice. It's also because most of my thoughts generally involve ways to stop newbies from running in order to save them being burned, thoughts about unbundling, and about better community de-admin process, and I don't think any of that is what Jimbo is looking for. I'd be happy to take part in one of the groups though, if the task force can use me -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 02:29, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Warning

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Darius, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. This was a highly improper move, if you are an experienced Wikipedian you should have known better. PatGallacher (talk) 16:36, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. As an administrator, I was acting on a speedy deletion request to remove a Redirect that was holding up a page move, and the page move looked to have had a lot of prior work done in preparation. The move did not appear to violate the page move guidelines that you have quoted, which allow for a name to be associated with a primary topic. One of the admin options in such cases is to follow the included link for the move and perform the actual move, which is what I did. If you disagree with an admin action, you should explain what you think is wrong with it - and if you do that, I'll be happy to revisit my decision to honor the move request, and to revert it if necessary. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 16:43, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
I've now examined the "Darius" move more closely, and I agree that the move was an error. I see you have already reverted the move, so I have also reverted some redirect changes - I've commented further at Talk:Darius#Primary_topic, which I had missed earlier. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:16, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I've declined your request for speedy deletion of Kochaly, which you said does not exist. A Google search for Kochaly Azerbaijan finds a number of hits, some of which pinpoint the location as shown in this article - including one describing Kochaly, Neftçala, Azerbaijan -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:50, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Dear Boing! said Zebedee, I am from Azerbaijan and locally from Neftçala district. Besides I am user from Azerbaijan Wikipedia that have so much labor in making of Neftçala article the featured one in AzWiki. I have made so many researches to be sure of that there exists no such village. I am also aware of that, information about villages in Post-Soviet countries generally are taken from old KGB maps. Sending you link for this maps. Go to the marked place of Kochaly and you will see there "МТФ Кагалы" . MTF (Молочно-товарной фермa) in Russian means "Dairy farm", not the village :). If you still believe that there is such village in Azerbaijan please give me reference from local government sites showing that there is such village within administrative unit of Neftçala district. If not please restore the deletion request. Or you can also change its content as showing it as "dairy farm" in the Soviet period in Neftçala.--Bakuemil (talk) 08:08, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi. Speedy deletion is only for things that fall into one of a very few strict categories, where the fault is so blatantly clear that no expertise and no discussion is needed. You might well be right - I'm not arguing either way and I'm not saying I believe the village exists - but with there being a number of Google hits that appear to show it in the claimed location, the Kochaly article is not blatantly and obviously a hoax and so is not a valid candidate for speedy deletion. You might want to have a look over WP:CSD and check the explanations for the categories. If you believe it should be deleted, the way to do that is via the normal deletion proposal mechanism - see WP:AfD for how to do that, and if you have any difficulty or need any help, feel free to ask me here. Best regards -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:52, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

I could not choose the proper deletion template for this article. As admin your are more experienced and now you are aware of the situation. Please add the proper deletion template. Another possibility is to change the content from village to farm without deletion. Then remove it from Template:Neftchala Rayon.--Bakuemil (talk) 12:40, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

If it's a farm, then I'd think that's still non-notable, so I've taken it to a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kochaly -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 12:59, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I see Daniel Case has given them a final warning now - I'll keep an eye on their contributions, and we can take further action if necessary -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:41, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
Just an opinion: the problem is this must be a vandalism account. Aside from the above actions, he also left an insult on a well-meaning anon's talk page ([14]) and created a redirect (brand of toothbrush) to an unrelated page (Max Keeble's Big Move) (which you had just deleted). - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 15:46, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that redirect was weird (and I saw that insult on the IP's page too). But the warning is there now - next bit of vandalism will be the last ;-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:48, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
What's also weird is that he also "redirected" his user page to Metal Gear (video game). - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 16:14, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, I think that's probably misuse of user space, so I've removed the redirect -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 16:49, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Friendly note

While I appreciate the work you're doing at CAT:SD, but could you be a bit more careful with deleting talk pages after you delete the corresponding article page? You recently deleted a bunch of Logan's db-disambig tags (which I didn't even know existed!) without deleting the talk. I understand you are using Twinkle—which I never use for deletion—so it doesn't give you a direct link to delete the talk. Just try to be a bit more careful, please. Cheers, GFOLEY FOUR— 19:23, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder. I've been watching out for Talk pages, but for some reason I seem to have had a blind spot with those - more careful attention will be paid forthwith -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:36, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and yes, that's a handy template. I remember some time ago I found some similar disambig pages (only two entries, primary topic already there), and I didn't know what to do - then I saw someone use that template a couple of months ago. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:39, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the review! I'll link it to the main UCLan page now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pancakegirl (talkcontribs) 13:25, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Threat directed at you

I gave the user a 4im warning for Matt Krikorian, but I thought I'd drop you a mention as well if you want to deal with the issue some other way. Yours, Zakhalesh (talk) 19:10, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know - I see they're blocked now -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:20, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
No problem. I assume you get threats like these quite often? Vandals and various fanatics seem to be quite adept at tossing legal and other threats around. Zakhalesh (talk) 19:23, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
I've had a few :-) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:28, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for that. There was a problem with a minor edit war and I thought that if both the rivals were mentioned it might quieten things down. The other one had an article already, so GurDass started in on this chap. (This means he's started the articles on both of them...) I'm doing a bit to get the notability showing and leaving the spirituality side to him or any Ram supporters that turn up. (I think GurDass is really from the other camp.) Once it gets bedded in, it'll probably come to life. (Despite what TCO thinks, I contribute to content creation deviously by pushing people gently.) Peridon (talk) 18:23, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Serves me right for going into Wikipedians looking for help... Peridon (talk) 18:24, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
No prob - I don't know anything about the topic, but on the face of it it seemed like a reasonable solution to the problem -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:09, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Resolved?

I would have liked the rules about respecting other editors explained to him first. Then if it happens again, I'll be sure if the user was mislead or likes talking to people that way. :)Rain the 1 BAM 13:05, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

He has already accepted that he responded badly, so I see no need to rub anything in - please just let it drop now as requested. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:08, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
If I have another horrid message and I'm upset I will be saying what I really think. No one in this world has the right to tell anyone to shut their mouth like I have been. I've lost all faith now, not one Iota left, I'm upset for real. For me the four year exp is ruined. But I'll leave it now and treat it as resolved, my understanding is that you have that page on watch so if it redevelops you may intervine.Rain the 1 BAM 13:28, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
I've changed my mind already, someone has added some good info the the article. Which is really positive. I guess the situation made me appear over dramatic. (I can be .. that and I just woke up too, gaah) BUT I've noticed you are a copy editor, if I find anything in need of a urgent copy edit, would you mind me dropping in? =D I need the help of more good CE's.Rain the 1 BAM 13:48, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I do indeed have it watched. What I think is the real tragedy here is that nobody involved in this affair meant any harm at all - you and the others clearly meant well in your communication, but the new user felt a bit bitten and ganged up on. I've been around for about the same time as you, and I can assure you that I have faced a lot worse than your recent encounter. I've had genuine attacks by genuinely threatening people - cases where just being told to "shut up" would have been a welcome relief :-) Anyway, please do feel free to drop me a line here if you should encounter any similar problems and I'll be happy to do what I can. I may be able to help with copy editing too, but I've had precious little time for that of late - it's part of what I do in real life, and I often don't have much brainpower left for it here ;-) Best regards -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:59, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Congratulations

Hi, I see that you are a relatively new administrator of Wikipedia, I just like to congratulate you for the trust of the public as well as your new responsibilities and thank you for your help in the recent AN/I Wuhwuzdat.  Rmzadeh  ►  17:02, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, that's very kind. I think that second AfD is turning out well - the article is clearly going to be kept, and the discussion has vindicated your good faith. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:11, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
