February 2009[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. One of the core policies of Wikipedia is that articles should always be written from a neutral point of view. A contribution you made to B-29 Superfortress appears to carry a non-neutral point of view, and your edit may have been changed or reverted to correct the problem. Please remember to observe our core policies. Thank you. -MBK004 22:52, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of 330th Bombardment Group[edit]

A tag has been placed on 330th Bombardment Group requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copyright information[edit]

Thanks pleasantwarrior, but I have emailed wikipedia giving them permission to use this data. I own the website that this information is taken from and would like to share it with a broader audience.., like wikipedia.,. although from what warm reception I have been given by the gestapo gatekeepers.., i will most likely just keep it on my site. B29bomber (talk) 19:15, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just received an email from Permissions Wikipedia in reference to my copyright references to the 330th BG. I received permission to use it as set forth in free license agreement.B29bomber (talk) 21:22, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note from an administrator[edit]

Hi, I see you're trying to constructively contribute to wikipedia and are a bit confused by all these messages above. First, let me stop and welcome you. As a former bomber in B-29's, I'm sure you have quite a lot to add. (For what it's worth, my father was a B-29 gunner) However we have guidelines we must work with. I suspect these topics you are writing about are very much deserving of articles on them, but we have to go about it a bit differently. Perhaps you could take a look at this guide to your first article before proceeding or worse, giving up. Feel free to drop me a note on my talk page if you have questions or I can be of assistance. Again, welcome, we are lucky to have you. Toddst1 (talk) 19:44, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to WP:MILHIST![edit]

Preventing 330th Bombardment Group from being deleted[edit]

What I would recommend you do immediately is add your argument for keeping the article to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/330th Bombardment Group saying:

  • something to the effect that the organization is notable in its own right (using the wikipedia definition of WP:Notable which is somewhat different from the common sense definition)
  • ask for help improving the article
  • say that if the article is deleted, you'd like the option of improving it in your user space (I'll explain below) and recreating it later.

I'd focus on getting this article in shape before starting any other articles. I'm glad to help you with that. Unfortunately, I'll be pretty busy with off-wiki stuff the next several days. Toddst1 (talk) 16:23, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up[edit]

It looks like lots of folks are weighing in that this article should be kept and you should feel good about that. Sorry it was so tough at first, but your initial experience here is not uncommon. We get so many folks who are here just to vandalize and folks trying to promote their business or their singing career that sometimes we're hard on the new guy, which is unfair. On that note, I want to acknowledge your frustration, but say that you should refrain from negative comments directed at people like calling folks gestapo and stuff like that. We have a policy, WP:Civil that talks about that (as well as a policy WP:Bite that talks about not picking on the new guy).

I've taken the liberty of cleaning some stuff up on your talk page for you. I hope you don't mind. Again, let me know if I can help. Toddst1 (talk) 16:40, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Preventing new articles in general from being deleted[edit]

In a general sense, I always like to see articles started in user space (or user's private files) and then placed into article space later. Let me explain what your user space is:

Your username is B29bomber:

Note: "Your" in this context means associated with you, not belonging to you.

I have quite a few files in my user space as you can see. At the moment, none of them are articles under construction, but that is where I created articles like USCGC Cuyahoga (WIX-157) and then moved them to their final home when they were ready for the intense scrutiny that you've seen.

The deal is articles there don't come under scrutiny like regular articles. They do have to abide by the somewhat common-sense rules at Wikipedia:User page which also has instructions on how to create a page in your user space.

I hope this helps and isn't too confusing. Best regards. Toddst1 (talk) 16:22, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you need any help with anything, feel free to leave Todd or I a message - we will be happy to help you with whatever you need. :) Have a great day! —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 18:43, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to B-29 armament[edit]

Hi B29bomber, welcome to Wikipedia! As you have noticed there is a "fact" being cited which you, as an eyewitness, have contradicted. However, the problem is that especially in the case of disputed facts, Wikipedia policy is to be able to back things up with preferably Published references, ie; books. I understand your frustration that, as a veteran, you are reading something which you know to be wrong. Unfortunately, because you have not cited a reference to back up your direct observations other editors are entitled to revert your editing. Frustrating!? You bet! If you can find some written information confirming that B-29s operated with empty ammo boxes, rather than had their armament removed entirely it would help a great deal. Unfortunately my personal library includes nothing on the B-29, but I do know that I have read something which confirms what you say - I just wish I could remember where it is! Frustrating? You bet!

For some reason this article presents a lot of facts, and there is an extensive bibliography, yet few of these are used as references! If anything the article needs an extensive overhaul, because the extensive use of websites is directly contrary to Wikipedia policy. Have a look at other aircraft articles (eg P-51 Mustang) and you'll see how references are used. If you can help add to the information in this article, with proper references, that would be great. Cheers, regards, Minorhistorian (talk) 21:04, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS; Feel free to ask questions on my talk page. In the back of my mind I know you're right and, if I can find some time, I'll do some digging around. Minorhistorian (talk) 21:08, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WOW, the P-51 page is a beautiful article! Certainly wish I had the time to devote to my 330th Bombardment Group running out of time, unfortunately, is where I am headed. I know of several crews that told LeMay's order to 'stick it' and they smuggled in ammunition. After several missions and not seeing any fighters on these night raids..,most of them agreed and left ammunition out of all boxes, except for the Tail Gunner. There were only two bomb groups that had the 'slick' silverplate B-29's. The 505th and the 315th. The 505th is what the Enola Gay flew under. The 315th flew from an adjacent field to west of the 330th's North Field. They were recon and RCM (RADAR countermeasure) aircraft only. They would occasionally fly with bombs, but mostly a giant car sized fuel tank would be in their bellies. The remaining bomber groups did not have their turrets removed as this would have required extensive modifications as the B-29 was a pressurized aircraft. You could not just pull out the guns. You would have to send her back to the factory for the 'mod'. As far as the reason for cutting back on the ammo, the Japs did not have any RADAR night fighters so there was no opposition from them at night. They had to worry about the Ohkas being dropped from the Betty Bombers, but they had a short range and the B-29 could almost outrun them. I am not aware of a single instant where the Ohka/Baka Bombs were effective other than to scare the living hell out of a crew. Thank you for your hard work and persistance. I mean no harm. Just frustrating trying to get the facts right. Once these boys are gone, it is going to be up to the rest of you to keep the facts straight.--B29bomber (talk) 21:48, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problems - I'll see what I can do to help, although my time is a little limited with other committments. Cheers! Minorhistorian (talk) 01:18, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An exciting opportunity to improve yourself![edit]

As a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 05:53, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for signing up, but the New York City Flag is already taken, could you choose another? New York (state) is still available if you wish. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 19:23, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contest update[edit]

Well, it's just 1 day until the contest begins, so I thought I'd check in with everyone and make sure you're all ready to go. First I'd like everyone to check out the main contest page and read over the rules and the scoring system. If you have any final questions or concerns, make them known on the talk page. Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/History/2009 is the scoreboard that will be updated, you can watchlist it. Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Submissions which shows how your submission page should look. Another example is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Submissions Example, and your personal page should be listed at the footer of the page, which is also at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Users. Again, take any questions to the contest talk page.

Good luck! - Trevor MacInnis contribs 20:55, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

330th BG[edit]

Wish I could find a group patch or emblem for the page.

Also, the B-29 serials seem to be missing this aircraft...

http://www.angelfire.com/pa5/mollpa2/images/allentownb29.jpg

Best I can determine is that "City Of Allentown" was B-29-65-BW USAAF # 44-69886 330th BG (VH) 457th BS. It was a production B-29A Boeing construction number 10718.

Allentown, by the way.. is my hometown :)

44-69886 was NOT in the 330th Bombardment Group. I am the surviving Historian for the group and I maintain a list of ALL of their aircraft. "City of Allentown" was NOT one of them.B29bomber (talk) 14:36, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. However, please know that editors do not own articles and should respect the work of their fellow contributors on 330th Bombardment Group (VH). If you create or edit an article, know that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. B29, based on your comments at several different locations, it appears that you believe that the article belongs to you. Please be aware that once the article is submitted, any editor can make changes to the article, including additions, deletions, moves, etc. If there is a disagreement, it needs to go on the talk page of the article and discussed for consensus. You may also want to look at WP:BRD for the process to handle if someone makes a change you disagree with, so that you avoid any problems with edit-warring. You've done a good job on the article, and you should be proud of it - but it still belongs to Wikipedia and not to an individual editor. Regards, GregJackP Boomer! 20:33, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article has reached 114KB, well past the size recommended for spliting and I have proposed that it be split into two separate articles, 330th Bombardment Group (World War II) and List of Combat Missions of the 330th Bombardment Group (World War II). A discussion on the proposed split is here and comments (both for or against) are invited. Regards, GregJackP Boomer! 09:02, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly comment[edit]

B29, it is generally considered bad form to edit another user's post on a talkpage, as you did here. It is much better if the other editor's post is in error, to post the correct information on your own, separate from their signed comment. Regards, GregJackP Boomer! 12:44, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for October 9[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Luxottica, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages ICON and Bright Eyes (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

330th Bombardment Group Commanders[edit]

I have once again deleted the entry in the infobox for Notable Commanders in this article. First, only one of the commanders listed commanded the group. Squadron commanders may appropriately be listed in the articles for the squadrons. In addition, there is no justification given for the notability of the one listed group commander (see Wikipedia:Notability (people)). Notable commanders are usually ones who have been promoted to general officer rank, or who have earned decorations like the Medal of Honor or the Victoria Cross. In particular your reversion did not state a reason for considering any of the listed commanders as notable, nor did you make any attempt to discuss notability on the talk page for the article. There is no problem listing Col. Reynolds as commander. Note that if you list a commander in the Template:Infobox military unit the first listing defaults to "Notable Commanders" as a label. If you desire to list him as a commander, you can insert an appropriate alternative name and the default label will not appear.--Lineagegeek (talk) 22:53, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

330th Bomb group[edit]

I understand what you are trying to achieve but the problem is threefold

1) to give a rebuttal to some alleged fact, that fact has to be in the article in the first place. It's not enough to say in a (hypothetical) article that "so-and-so was not the first person to fly upside down, it was Uncle Tom Cobley" without preceding it by some text such as "Dr Thingummy claimed in his famous 1923 book that so-and-so was the first man to fly upside down."

2) You need to source both parts of the statement. On top of identifying the claims reliably in whatever sources they exist and the claim needs to be important enough to warrant inclusion - a forum post or a letter to a provincial newspaper is not significant. You then have to source a negative. Best you can do is source the unit that was the back-up.

3) the statements have to be in the right sort of tone to fit in with the encyclopaedic style. This means not addressing the reader directly in so far as telling them to do something or not. And no unnatural stressing with formatting as that would go against the manual of style.

What you are looking for is something like this "On the primetime documentary (insert programme name), Captain (ditto other name) claimed that the (numbered aviation unit) was responsible for the bombs that destroyed (Japanese warship).[reference] Historians agree that it was (name of other unit) that was responsible.[reference]

Hope this is of some help. GraemeLeggett (talk) 19:11, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

table of aircraft in 330 Bombardment group[edit]

There really is too much incidental information in the table as it stands to include it. Hence I removed it. I think you are going to have to marshall some very strong arguments for its inclusion - eg showing how the table adds to an understanding of the history of the unit, or rework the table to be more succinct. There's plenty of space to talk it over on the article talk page and the other editors will I am sure be prepared to engage in discussion. GraemeLeggett (talk) 19:48, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help in maintaining NPOV on historical Pacific War aviator[edit]

Hi B29bomber. I'm looking for some third parties to review a problem editor who (in my opinion) continues to violate the NPOV policy of Wikipedia on the page of a Pacific War aviator, Mitsuo Fuchida. After exhausting myself trying to maintain viable content in the "Controversy" section, I'm asking for a page ban for this user. If you have time and motivation, I'd really appreciate your consideration to review this issue. The Noticeboard Request is to be found here: [1] I hate to take anyone's time, but this problem is why many won't trust Wikipedia. Thanks for your consideration.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
