User:Wayfarer/Old user page

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This Wikipedian's user page's layout (or to be more precise, the three tables below on the right side) is optimized for viewing in full-screen at 1600 x 1200 screen resolution!

Current layout with three tables is just a temporary solution, which will remain as it is until I find a better way to lay-it-out. I had many problems placing the table correctly (originally I was planning to have my picture on the left and some text - probably the introductory paragraph - on the right side, both cells being in a single row in a left-floated table), but in the end when I finally managed to get it all done to look relatively well in full-screen I realized it was all wrong when not viewed in full-screen.

My name is Tadej Persic (Tadej Peršič to be precise, or even Ivan Tadej Peršič-Kandus) and I am a proud member of Wikipedia from March 25 2005 onward. Most importantly, I'm a member of the English variant (where I contribute the most, see here for the list of my Contributions), however, about the same time I registered also at slovenian Wikipedia and Wikinews (also see the "My user pages" section above, the second paragraph). I am 30 years old (male), born on July 13 1980, and I grew up and still live in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, which is a country located in the center of EU. I'm an ex student of Architecture College (which is a part of the Univerza v Ljubljani; in English this means University of Ljubljana), while currently I am studying Informatics.

Regarding my interests/hobbies, I'm interested in just about anything related to basic programming and scripting, like batch processing, Vbscript, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Python, ABC, etc.), while I also enjoy custumizing and tweaking my operating systems and similar. I mainly use Windows XP, but occasionally I also use Linux (the Slackware distribution). Otherwise I like mystics and stuff, I like to listen to various types of music, watch movies and television series; South Park, Dilbert, Futurama, and Simpsons are currently my favorites. In my spare time, I also like to browse the World Wide Web (news and techy sites, post on various Internet forums), go to the nature, meet with my friends, and smoke herbs. In the paragraphs further below, there are also listed links to my various Wiki profiles (account home or user pages), to my blogs, and to the various variants of my three different websites.

As first I will mention my page[1] on Twitter website, which is also some sort of a blog (this is called micro-blogging), then there is my profile page[2] on Facebook community, my personal page[3] on MySpace portal, and my user page[4] on Fubar portal. For many other such account pages rather see my-accounts.html page[5] on my main personal website (also see below).

Then there are user pages on Wiki-type websites. I will start with my account's user page[6] on Wikinews, then there is my user page[7] on slovenian variant of Wikipedia, and there are of course other Wiki-type websites on which I mainly use a nick "Satyr-wayfarer" (that's because my nick on Lost In The Box, MozillaZine, and CastleCops forums is "satyr", while on all the original Wikis it's "Wayfarer"), the user pages below are ordered by the date of registration. As first there is my user page[8] on SourceWatch website, then there is my user page[9] on CastleCops Wiki, then my user page[10] on Mozilla Wiki, my user page[11] on Mozdev, my user page[12] on MozillaZine Knowledge Base, and finally my user page[13] on bb4win Wiki (bb4win is a branch of Blackbox shell replacement for Windows), and my user page[14] on Ghisler Wiki (it's a Wiki for Total Commander file-manager).

My en/si blogs[edit]

I will start this section with my main English blog[15] (titled tayiper's blog) on "Senserely Yours" ad revenue sharing community website (since this is an English variant of Wikipedia); in it I write about diverse non-specific topic, like about recent experiences with my computer (i.e. things that I've recently discovered, errors that I've coped with etc.), the "going-ons" from my life from last few days and so on. I have other blogs in English language too, like for instance my diary[16] (titled satyr's diary) on kuro5hin portal (or shortly K5) website/portal where I also don't write about anything specific, then there's my blog[17] (titled satyr_moz's blog) on Spread Firefox community portal where I write about my experiences Mozilla Firefox, and Thunderbird programs, and finally blog[18] (titled CC satyr's blog) on CastleCops website etc., which are all as you can see more or less community-oriented blogs and are all, as mentioned, also in English language. I guess my user page[19] on Technorati also suits into this section since it lists all my blogs (well, at least those that I've submitted there).

Then I have a blog [20] (titled Tadej: spletne objave: ) on Sopca community website, which is now the absolutely main blog of my two slovenian blogs (and lately I only update this one, a diary on K5, and a blog on Senserely site), and there's also a second now somehow abandoned blog[21] (titled Tadej na-liniji: razne objave) on VOLJAblok website where I only post a joke or two from time to time. On these two blogs in slovenian language I write about diverse non-specific topic, like about recent experiences with my computer, the "going ons" from my life from last few days etc., similarly to my English blogs. Note that the second blog is unfortunately not accessible anymore (that's from the end of December 2007 onwards) since the blog-portal itself was taken off-line, however there's a page[22] on Internet Archive (the feature is called Wayback Machine) listing all the archived states of this blog; the Februar 28, 2007 archive[23] was the last one.

The blog was at that particular time titled Tadej na-liniji: razne objave), which already shows the blog with new outlook/theme. And another one was April 23, 2006 archive[24] (entitled just with a simple title Web-Notes back then), which is the oldest one (i.e. archived states) from all of them.

My websites[edit]

I have a website which has become my main general personal website[25] (titled Tadej Persic's website), meaning that it's not strictly computing, nor strictly non-computing related. There exist also a slovenian variant of this same website [26] (titled Tadej Peršič stran), which I have created in April 2007. It is basically just a some sort of a navigational website that (with the exception of my-projects.html page[27], which similarly to the projects.html page[28] on my main computing-related website lists various distributed computing projects that I participate in) only describes and lists links to my other websites and blogs and interesting articles I've written and other notable sections on them, and is therefore not the site with actual interesting content.

My oldest website though is my main computing-related website[29] (titled Tadej's computing homepage) that deals with important computing-related things that I've discovered so far (mostly via "trial and error"), like for instance in it I list my various personal computing-related articles, hints, principles, rules, tips, my various favorite programs and their usages and so on. Especially interesting are my numerous discoveries and "tinkering with the PC to the extreme" type of experiences. Note that the website contains also a some sort of a blog (or in other words a personal ever-growing computing-related set of pages with important current news and events) started in 2005, with first page being first events1.html page[30], and the last/current page being events16.html page[31]. Further, note that this website exists only so that all the ideas I have, and all the interesting things that I discover regarding my computer (or on the World Wide Web) don't go into the "oblivion" by not writing them down, while on the other hand I've tried to make a unique site, which would express those other practical things that you learn after using your computer for some time. I mean I just didn't want to make another website with well-known "tweaks" and widely-used security programs listed like there are too many out there already. The oldest variant of this website is the website[32] (titled TADEJ'S HOME-PAGE on VOLJA.NET), which is really totally out-dated (it is a "one page" website and it's actually my first-ever webcoding attempt), and is not at all interesting; in fact, its quite boring.

And finally there is my third website, which is a clarinet instrument related website[33] (titled Clarinet informational website), which as its title hints contains mostly technical and history information about the clarinet musical instrument, and a few of my personal experiences with it. Also note that the emphasis is not on the site's outlook but on the website's content, therefore I only use HTML/JavaScript and a bit of CSS. I've simply tried to make the website as simple and as fast-loading as possible. None of my websites are more or less crafted by hand was made with the use of pre-built templates or even worse, writen with "make-your-webpage-in-5-minutes" type of program.

Note that all the mentioned websites are licensed under a Creative Commons license, and was created and is maintained only by me, mostly "typed-by-hands" with a bit of copy/paste in a few cases of JavaSript. You may notice that on all of my websites I don't use underlying for "normal" words (i.e. not links) to prevent the confusion and to follow the standards. Like almost every other website on the Internet, thy one is also always under construction. And finally, they also don't contain popups or banner-ads, and are XHTML and CSS code is valid by W3C standards.

My photograph[edit]

Note that this current layout (of this photo of mine) is hopefully just temporary until I find out the way to lay it out better. You see, I had many problems placing the table correctly, to be specific, I was planning to have my picture on the left side and some text (probably the intro "My name is Tadej Persic..." paragraph) on the right side, both being cells in a single row in a left-floated table. And when I finally managed to set all the parameters (i.e. table's style selector property's values) that everything looked relatively well in full-screen (that is, window's contents being displayed over entire screen in web-browser), I realized that it's all wrong in non-full-screen mode, and reverse, when everything looked well in a non-full-screen mode, it's all wrong in full-screen. I was trying with various margin, padding, width, height CSS properties etc., but none seemed to work as I've intended.

Well, later on that same day (that was on October 17 2009 early in the morning) I actually succeeded to lay that table element out, at least approximately the way I imagined it. The photo is not on the left and text not on the right side, it's not at all positioned as I originally wanted it to be, but it's at least normally viewable in both (full-screen and non-full-screen) modes. I am leaving this section as it is for legacy purposes. Anyway, the layout it still optimized/best viewed (that is, the tables align one above/below another) in full-screen at 1280 x 1024 px screen resolution.
