I am Melisa Hillman, a graduate student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). I received my BS in Biological Sciences (Evolution, Ecology and Environment) from SIUE in 2015. I did undergraduate research on insects in woodlands and did some graduate school field work in prairie restorations with plant diversity. I have taken courses in botany, plant systematics, entomology, wildlife management, ichthyology, secondary education, and even early childhood education. I worked as a teaching assistant in Intro Biology, Ecology, Entomology and Field Biology. I also worked in the Greenhouse. I am currently taking Mammalogy (Biol 488) and have been assigned a graduate student Wikipedia project. I am also taking a sustainability seminar course which involves reading and discussing primary literature sources on biodiversity under the three pillars of sustainability; society, economics, and environment.

More about me[edit]

I have two children, a preteen and a toddler. I literally walked in my graduation ceremony (BS) one week after my youngest son was born. I am engaged to another SIUE student from the Anthropology department. My hobbies include hiking, gardening and outdoor education. My favorite books are science textbooks, field guides, and non-fiction.
