HMY minion[edit]

Suggestion for a new addition to the list.[edit]

A colleague of mine who is familiar with the Empress of Britain, and I would like to suggest that it be added to the current list of royal yachts and charters. While the Empress of Australia is listed, it only covers the Royal couple's journey to Canada - a fact that is also missing in the article for that specific ship.

We think that the Empress of Britain represents an important leg of the Royal journey as, according to Gordon Turner (the author cited as a primary source in the current article on the Empress of Britain), there was a significant escort from the Royal Navy (3 ships) and the Royal Canadian Navy (2 ships)on the route back to Southampton, which could be an indication of the level of concern regarding security. My colleague has noted that Czechoslovakia had already been seized by Hitler at the time of that Royal crossing of the Atlantic.

We would also like to inquire about the current use of photographs in the article for Empress of Britain. Turner's book contains fantastic port and starboard side shots of the ship, which would be of benefit to anyone reading the article. Is it customary to contact publishers to request access to the photos?

It is unlikely to be possible to get the images release under a free license. As for adding it to this list go ahead. There's no clear criteria at the moment so no reason not to.©Geni 05:42, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How many?[edit]

Although the beginning of the article states "There have been 84 royal yachts ...", I can only count 71 in the list as it currently stands. What about the other 13? Heraldica (talk) 11:35, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Title of EntryMacmuck50 (talk) 19:28, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[edit]

Article states that this is a list of royal yachts of the United Kingdom but contains a number of entries predating 1707 . It was only in 1707 that the kingdoms of Scotland and England came together to form as a united nation of Great Britain. Then in 1801 when Ireland entered the union the formal designation became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (and in 1922 became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). Article should be amended to reflect or clarify this

Royal Yach 1939[edit]

The August 30 1939 Edinburgh Evening News reported that "A Clyde yard is also expected to build the new Royal yacht, to be ordered under the Admiralty's 1939 programme".Roryharrow (talk) 00:07, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology[edit]
