"Gorrie's life was saved by Cher" -- what on earth does that mean? If it's true, it needs detail. Eeksypeeksy 11:21, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted. The author can come back and explain whenever s/he has the evidence to do so. PennyGWoods 00:02, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahem. Source of said information was from an AWB CD inlay. "Their celebrations however are overshadowed with the death of McIntosh from a strychnine-based heroin overdose, when he believes he is snorting cocaine. Gorrie's is saved by alertness of Cher, who keeps him conscious until medical help arrives" - from the notes to Above Average, a 1996 best-of compilation on Castle Communications plc. Well done, Steve. You presumably need to insert it in the main article!
Derek R Bullamore 18:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It was previously in the article, I think it was me who put it there in the first place. To be honest it is only a bit of trivia which is why even though I came here and stated my source, I didn't rush to re-instate it in the article, it didn't seem that important. But since you ask, I have done so ;) Stevekeiretsu 23:49, 2 September 2006

To me it's the well researched, so-called, 'trivia' that lifts Wikipedia above the other non-encyclopedic styled sites. Thus becoming a generally, well-rounded NPOV, research site for all. Frankly, I would encourage such input (but what do I know).

As far as I can tell from album covers, AWB was credited as "The Average White Band" only on their first album. All others I can find credit them as "Average White Band" and/or use the moniker "AWB". I suggest that we change the article heading to "Average White Band". Any objections? Szarka 17:55, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Death of Robbie McIntosh[edit]

How accurate are your sources regarding the death of Robbie McIntosh? Album notes from the group's "Soul Searching" recording specifically states that McIntosh's death was not the result of a drug overdose, but the result of being poisoned at a Hollywood party, thus their tribute song to him called "Love Your Life". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.115.108.122 (talk) 16:58, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely correct...Statements made by Gorrie in 1976 indicate that McIntosh's death was a result of poisoning at a "Hollywood" party and not due to a heroin overdose... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.115.108.102 (talk) 19:40, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Strange then, that the two sources now quoted in the article both state that the said 'poison' was heroin. There are even more reliable, third party sources stating much the same thing. Any alternative version is more likely to be an empathetic euphemism.

The 'Pickin' Up the Pieces' compilation liner notes state: "McIntosh's wine was spiked with heroin, which killed him." 90.7.252.88 (talk) 21:26, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dundee Horns?[edit]

The article states "affectionately known as the Dundee Horns". From my memory (admittedly vague) they were actually in a band called the Dundee Horns, that used to play Laing's Hotel on the Perth Road (Dundee). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.101.146.71 (talk) 18:37, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Molly Duncan[edit]

Duncan, albeit listed as former member in the line-up, is nowhere mentioned as ex-member, nor does the article say anything about a time when he left the band. I've put in information from plain text for Stuart and Ball now; however, I need some help for Duncan, though. -andy 92.229.112.174 (talk) 22:40, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duncan left in 1982 when band initially split up. Conversely, he did not re-join on the band's reformation in 1989. Although Duncan's name is not mentioned specifically, I think the present text is fairly self explanatory.

How The Average White Band got their Name[edit]

I was reading the Wikipedia Article about the Average White Band and it doesn't match up with what Onnie himself said about how they got their name. Please watch the House of Blues Video with the Average White Band and you will hear/see what Onnie has to say about that. It has something to do with them going to places like Uganda and someone saying that it was too hot there for the average white man.

Billy Connolly[edit]

Didn't AWB serve as Billy Connolly's backing band on Stainless Steel Wellies (AKA Govan 'Dunne' Blues)? Nuttyskin (talk) 11:23, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
