The use of singular for species.[edit]

I am advocating the use of the singular for a species like Australian Bass, for example, "The Australian Bass is", not "Australian Bass are". In scientific writing for a lay audience this seems clearer because we are talking about the characteristics of any individual in the species, not a collection of individuals. Revert of multiple edits.[edit]

I have reverted a large number of edits made in sequence to the article. I have done this for two reasons. Firstly the changes introduce incorrect capitalisation of fish names - these are not proper nouns and should not be capitalised except where part of the name is itself a proper noun - for example Australian bass, whereas golden perch is not capitalised. Secondly, the edits remove a large amount of information without any explanation and I simply do not have the time right now to untangle the good parts of the edit and the content removal. In future if you want to make extensive changes to an article please discuss it here. Also, please provide explanations for individual edits lest they be mistaken for vandalism. - Nick Thorne ^talk 02:28, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, thank you for that Nick. I am the primary author of this article, and put a lot of effort into writing it, and sourcing and referencing excellent scientific information for it. I believe all of the information is relevant and useful, and I do not believe the article was in need of major editing. I was pretty upset to see that someone had unilaterally deleted half of the article's content and made it fairly crap. While Wiki is indeed 'click and edit', common sense and courtesy would suggest that key authors/contributors be involved in discussions before dramatic changes are made to articles. 10:54, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

10:18, 30 May 2007 (UTC) - the article is good with comprehensive information about the subject. There are a couple of pictures illustrating the subject of the article, and there are references at the end of the article. It's a definite B-Class at the moment. To become an A-class article, inline citations are needed, as well as a more comprehensive coverage of the subject (I don't know anything about bass so I'm not suggesting which areas would be good.) Good work so far though.
