Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Chapter was closed in 2013 for hazing and substance abuse. It reformed as a colony in 2016.
  2. ^ This was the reestablishment of the Gamma Prime chapter which went inactive in 1868. It merged with a Lambda Kappa chapter to form Lambda Kappa-Beta when their two colleges merged as Case Western Reserve University.
  3. ^ This chapter was expelled in 1868. It was reestablished as Beta Second chapter in 1880.
  4. ^ Gamma chapter was founded at Jefferson College in 1842 and merged with Washington College's Nu chapter (founded in 1855) when the two colleges joined as Washington & Jefferson in 1865.
  5. ^ This chapter's charter was revoked in 2006. It was reformed as a colony in 2011.
  6. ^ The Williams chapter left Beta to join Alpha Delta Phi in 1851. It was reformed in 1915 by absorbing the local fraternity Psi Omega, established in 1912. The chapter's charter was returned when Williams banned fraternities in the mid-1960s.
  7. ^ After the Civil War, the sole remaining chapter of the Virginia regional fraternity, Delta Epsilon, was absorbed to restore the dormant Zeta chapter which had "been killed off" during the conflict. American College Fraternities. J.B. Lippincott. 1883. p. 47.
  8. ^ Chapter was reestablished as a colony in 1987 and 2005. It was closed due to hazing in 2012, including forced alcohol consumption.
  9. ^ The chapter returned its charter in 1901 and became a local fraternity.
  10. ^ Eta chapter went dormant in 1860 but was restored with the absorption of the Mystical Seven's Temple of the Star and of the South in 1889. (This Mystical Seven chapter was founded in 1884). It formed as a colony in 2003.
  11. ^ Reestablished as Theta Epsilon.
  12. ^ The chapter was suspended in 2000.
  13. ^ This chapter closed 2014 due to low membership numbers. All active members were changed to alumni status.
  14. ^ The first Brown chapter withdrew from Beta Theta Pi to join Alpha Delta Phi as its Brunonian chapter in 1851. Established in 1870, the local Phi Kappa Alpha literary society was initiated to become the restored Kappa chapter in 1880.
  15. ^ Chaper was reestablished as a colony in 2010.
  16. ^ The chapter was inactive during the Civil War. It surrendered its charter in 1888.
  17. ^ This chapter merged with the Gamma chapter when Washington College joined with Jefferson College to become Washington and Jefferson College in 1865.
  18. ^ Reformed in 1889 by absorbing a local chapter of Omicron Eta Phi established in 1887.
  19. ^ Omicron chapter went dormant in 1875 but was restored in 1890 with the absorption of the Mystical Seven's Temple of the Hands and Torch, established in 1867, in a small national merger with three chapters of that fraternity. It reformed as a colony in 1978 and 2007.
  20. ^ This chapter's charter was revoked in 2001. It was reformed as a colony in 2003.
