Notes from an editor of Hurricane Herald[edit]

In the last edition, I introduced the section Member of the Month (Editor's Pick). This was made after a discussion regarding MoTM process, which resulted in Cyclone Toby ultimately not getting the MoTM (edition) in the last minute.

In this edition, I made a decision that this section will be permanent and will be included in every edition after this one. This decision is influenced by Hurricanehink's comments about the MotM selection process in the same discussion:

Now, it seems like we have more active users than ever, and I would love for that to continue, by any means necessary. A lot of the Motm's that I personally picked were just users who had done some good work but hadn't gotten recognized yet.

Which made me assume that Hurricanehink, which has been the primary editor of Hurricane Herald until recently, wants this practice to continue. If so, I wholeheartedly agree, as I believe that some editors that had done some outstanding job in recent months or underrated newer members of WPTC needs some recognition in some way or another. As such, this will become the permanent feature for the future Hurricane Herald issues after this one. I remember co-MoTM discussions before the last issue was published, and co-MoTM picks has occurred around two times or three times in the history of Hurricane Herald. The last issue was the first time that co-MoTM picks were awarded since the 34th edition, which was published all the way back to August 12, 2013 (!). That streak will be permanent starting from this edition. MarioJump83! 00:31, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have also used this opportunity to create a special section to honor four golden era WPTC members who was put in the inactive members list because of inactivity. It made me cried and sad to see them go. MarioJump83! 04:15, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominations for MotM[edit]

LightandDark2000 (talk · contribs)[edit]

I'm nominating LightandDark2000 as the Member of the Month for this edition, even if it is way too early - because this is very obvious. L&D2000 has never, ever gotten the MoTM honors from us before, but the contributions for our WikiProject is too great to be left without MoTM honors at all. L&D2000, to me, has literally saved WPTC from IPhonehurricane95 LTA destroying the project and made a comeback to WPTC since the last issue, helping us out in 2018 Global FT and wrote two opinion pieces for the Hurricane Herald's 45th issue. I could have nominated LightandDark2000 instead of Jason Rees in the last issue, however based on what happened in the last months Jason Rees deserves the MoTM more than ever (despite having been the MoTM winner two times). From what I have seen of what's going on before getting the MoTM, Jason Rees appears to be the most disrespected WPTC member, more disrespected than any other members. That's unfortunate given that Jason Rees has always been the one who helped contribute most of Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclones articles. This is why Destroyeraa has spoken about making Jason Rees MoTM numerous times already - I cannot ignore it. I also didn't write out the blurb for Jason Rees when I can do it - this is done because I don't know much about Jason Rees myself (I was from 2020) and out of respect for Jason Rees - instead I left it to LightandDark2000 who knows Jason more than I do. This time, with Jason Rees being the MoTM in the previous edition, I can finally say that LightandDark2000 deserves the MoTM for this edition. MarioJump83! 00:31, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Strong Support as the nominator. Obvious is obvious. It's a major travesty that L&D2000 has never gotten this award until recently. MarioJump83! 00:31, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support L&D2000 has been on Wikipedia for several years, and has never gotten this award. I support this nomination. HurricaneCovid (contribs) 00:48, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Strong Support I'm taken aback because L&D2000 has never gotten this award! He is an amazingly positive contributor, and deserves MoTM every month. 𝙲𝚘𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐𝙲𝚢𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚎 ᴛᴀʟᴋ 02:58, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Strong Support Per Users above, and the fact that L&D2000 is an extremely kind and thoughtful person. 🌀CycloneFootball71🏈 |sandbox 05:20, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Support LightandDark2000 is one of the many users who seriously deserve the MoTM but simply never got it. From 2013 to 2018, there wen't any MoTMs, and when they finally started doing it again it was already 2019. 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 11:24, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Support I've gotten to talk with LightandDark2000 off-wiki a lot, and he's very kind, and absolutely deserves it. The fact that he hasn't gotten it yet surprised me a lot. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 17:31, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Very Strong Support He is very kind, contributed a lot towards the project, and has done a lot of work fighting vandalism. He's done all this for 9 years. He deserves this more than anyone. 🦠🌀𝕾𝖚𝖕𝖊𝖗 𝕮𝖞𝖈𝖑𝖔𝖓𝖎𝖈 𝕾𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖒 𝕮𝖔𝖗𝖔𝖓𝖆🌀🦠 18:23, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Strong Support A very kind, diligent, and helpful user. LightandDark has helped me back up after I was blocked, and I will be forever grateful for his support. L&D2K has been in the project since 2013 or 2014. He has done a lot of the project in his early years, namely fighting against the LTA I Phone Hurricane 95. Recently, L&D2K has returned by helping new users and giving support, as well as making copyedits and helping write/review articles such as Hurricane Beryl. This is only a short summary of his on-wiki activity, there is more off-wiki that I cannot talk about but you guys get the idea. ~ Destroyeraa🌀🇺🇸 20:29, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  9. Strongest possible support in this entire universe, despite this meaning nothing. On the side of the kindest editors, along with CycloneFootball71. Along with this, as Destroyeraa said, he is starting to review articles, and he is also helping me with the Effects of Hurricane Dorian in the Carolinas GAN. Hopefully, he recovers soon. Stay safe, Cyclone Toby 21:41, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  10. Comment: Thank you all for your support. It means so much to me. I personally don't see myself as that much of a nice person, but I'm happy to see that you think otherwise. I'm very touched. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 19:04, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am resigning as the main editor of the Hurricane Herald[edit]

As stated on the intro of my fourth OP, I will not write more opinion pieces in the future (unless under request) and I want to announce that I am planning to take a step back from editing this newsletter (I will still write, including the MoTM picks, but will take a lesser role) and turn my focus into the sister publications of Hurricane Herald. It is going too much for me to handle both three publications after the revival of these newsletters. MarioJump83! 07:03, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
