Well, if there are two of us, I'm willing to get started. The first thing would be a roll call to decide active/inactive members. At the same time, I would like to update all the project pages and update/cleanup major articles under this project. We could also start up the newsletter, but only after the aforementioned activities. Also, I would like to post a notice at the Signpost. Sound good? Yes, it sounds great. I've been spearheading the WikiProject Malaysia revamp and those were the steps I took. To deliver the messages, you might want to try a bot, like ChzzBot so that you won't have to deliver them manually. It's pretty tedious. :) BejinhanTalk 06:44, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

• The "Hi USERNAMEHERE" might be possible if you're planning to deliver it manually, but if by bot, I doubt that a bot can pick up usernames based on user talk pages. It might be more practical to have it as "Hi! You are receiving this message because you are in WikiProject Homeschooling's member list(link to member list here)." That's just a thought... putting "Hi USERNAMEHERE" is also possible because it'll be more personal then.
• I think that 2 weeks should be sufficient. A month is a bit too long.

Okay...the BASEPAGENAME is supposed to pick up for the page it's posted on. For instance, I used that tag and because the sandbox is in my userspace, it added my name. I hate waiting. As far as that newsletter goes, it appears to fairly uncomplicated. The archives show just a short list of news. So I figured an announcement about the revival (or attempt at), general note about number of active contributors, update about collaboration of July (or request for input into that), and maybe a note about open tasks, places where members could contribute. I'm in. Some of the editors here will probably know me as the webmaster of a site on homeschooling. I watch these articles more than actively edit them, to make sure to keep well within the bounds of the Wikipedia conflict of interest policy, but I'm glad to be part of the project and have several of the main homeschooling articles on my watchlist. Newsletter-update

I'm working on finalizing the newsletter for July as time is running out. I've put in the roll call and revamp news. Am waiting for the July Collaboration of the Month, which seems to be Alternative education. The newsletter would be ready for delivery by 29th. No later than that. No August newsletter was prepared. Seeing that not much work is being done on Alternative education, why not extend the Collab to 2 months and have a bi-monthly newsletter? That means, the next newsletter will be in September. Also, don't forget that the nom of the collab has to play his/her role in working on the article. It's his/her responsibility per nom. Signpost did not work for me too. :p You could have a competition where the user with the highest referrals and the user with the most successful referrals get awarded. Do any of you frequent any of the big homeschooling forums, like Vegsource? I wonder if going the other way around and finding homeschoolers who edit Wikipedia instead of Wikipedians who are also homeschoolers might bear any fruit. (Personally, I spend most of my online forum time on Ravelry, whose only homeschooling forum is rather inactive, so I'm not of particular help there.) @PrincessofLlyr That's a good idea, but I was at the Reward Board page recently, and saw some stagnant requests. It's possible and we can give it a try... but it has got to be someone interested in homeschooling.

@Princess Lirin Nope, I do the Sonlight forums because that was the curriculum I was using when homeschooling, but as far as I know, most of them there aren't interested in editing Wikipedia. :) Maybe we could recruit new homeschooling users... that's another idea. Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Homeschooling articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. Existing Curriculum/Education Wiki?

Is there an existing wiki that presents an organized curriculum for home schooling. What I have in mind is a complete curriculum, going from beginning to high school, built as a wiki, with options along the way for various approaches.

It would be free, complete, professional, open to the best education minds to contribute, and available to EVERY child and parent who can get an internet connection. Given that there is no one best way to educate every child, it would have options and alternatives, but still be guided and organized.

Much of what I have found so far lacks any organization or road map.

Any ideas?

Wikipedia would be a WONDERFUL place to put such a thing, given that it has a brand name and a presence on the net.

Notability concern

Hi. When editing at random I stumbled across Mother of Divine Grace School, which looked more like an ad than a factual article. After editing it, I decided to take a look at similar articles, as articles on schools generally tend to be deleted for lack of notability. I've had a look at the list of articles below, but would like additional help on digging up references on them if possible, if not the alternative is deletion for lack of notability and/or verifiability. I've added a few notes on the various articles where I had any additional comments (in italics). All the articles have also been tagged with various maintenance templates as needed.

1. Calvert_School - Probably notable due to the age, has one book referenced which I assume helps, but need at least one more to establish notability.
2. Growing Without Schooling - Possibly notable, but haven't been able to verify. There is at least one book[1] published, but it appears to only contain original texts from the magazine
3. Mother of Divine Grace School - Possibly non-notable; appears to have mostly self-published references, blogs or reviews. Also a lot smaller than some of the others (if by 'schools' they mean home-schooled families)
4. Raymond S. and Dorothy N. Moore Foundation - Might be notable for Dorothy N. Moore (described as a pioneer in the homeschooling movement), but lacks any references independent of the subject. Could not find any books (that didn't contain articles from WP) on google, and couldn't find any sites that appeared to be useful during a quick search either.
5. Regina Coeli Academy - Unreferenced, had problems finding anything useful. Doesn't appear to be notable.
6. Secular Homeschooling (magazine) - Has references, but none of them is about the mag. Appears to be non-notable.
7. Seton Home Study School - Same problem as the others with a dead link, no refs that establish notability. Might be notable though, if the claim that they serve people in all US states and more than 50 countries.
8. Stoa USA - Tons of refs; mostly to their own websites, rankings and debate result pages. Probably non-notable.
9. Upattinas School and Resource Center - Only references their own site, and a government site listing "Diploma-granting Organizations". The other external links appear to be reviews, blogs and top n sites listing the best schools (or similar).

In general all of these fall under WP:ORG as there doesn't exist a specific notability guideline for schools, and most of them fail the criteria set there. Before taking any of them through an AFD, I'd like to hear with people associated with this Wikiproject, as you're more likely to know where to look for good sources. Leaflet for Wikiproject Homeschooling at Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. Creative Mind through Art of Mathematics

I think, many of our high schools do not provide an adequate level of knowledge in such an important subject as Mathematics. I am sure, many young students, especially those who study math at home and appreciate rigorousness, logic and creativity, would welcome an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of this subject, while inquisitive teachers might be benefited from a course concentrated on rigorous presentation of mathematical ideas, logic and methods.

I'd like to introduce you to an educational site UNIZOR.COM and the course "Math4Teens" presented there, which is created with an idea to redirect studying Mathematics from simple memorization of facts, usually forgotten immediately after passing an exam, towards development of intelligence, creativity and analytical thinking, which I consider the real purpose to study Mathematics and important throughout the whole life, regardless of profession.

Students have to think about Math for their minds as they think about gym for their muscles. Inasmuch as the latter is needed for physical development, the former is needed for development of their creativity, analytical thinking and ability to solve real life problems that needed new, previously unknown solutions. In real life people rarely lift weights, but they do it in a gym to improve their health, develop their strength and stamina to do whatever real life expects them to do. Similarly, in real life people don't have to prove theorems of Geometry, but doing it will greatly improve their ability to solve real life problems. Mathematics is a tool to develop the mind, inasmuch as weights in the gym are tools to develop muscles.

Unizor is free and has no advertising. Its sole purpose is to distribute knowledge in its purest form. I, as its author, have no financial benefits from it and continue developing this Web site as my contribution to a society, hoping that it will help some young students to reach higher goals in their lives.

At this time (September, 2022) the course is complete, and a new course, Physics4Teens, has been almost complete. Physics 4 Teens is a relatively comprehensive course of classical Physics on a solid mathematical foundation of the course of Mathematics described above.

Recently, realizing the deficiency in our Civics education, Jesse Brogan, a retired specialist in performance engineering and law, have contributed a course "Law4Teens" to UNIZOR.COM - a comprehensive course of lectures about our Constitution, Civil Law, Criminal Law and Business Law, specifically directed to young students.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? I have become aware of two "freemium" websites, both of which have articles here:

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
