Anime Collaboration of the Week

I was looking and noticed that there are various COTW's on wikipedia, but none for anime. How about we start one about anime up? --ZeWrestler 17:54, 18 May 2005 (UTC)

    • That I'm not sure of. My guess would be to find an anime article that is in dire need of updating and have everyone attack it until it looks decent. I think someone mentioned a Yū Watase manga above that might fit the bill. --Mitsukai 19:25, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
      • We need to set up something like the Collaboration of the week, or the Gaming Collaboration of the week, where users can nomminate articals to work on for that week. That way, we can all tackle improving the artical. --ZeWrestler 19:28, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

• Exactly that. Anime series, whether broadcast or an OVA/OAV. Single movies or OVA should probably just remain under the parent cat, however.--Mitsukai 16:32, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Stuff I'm working on

I've been doing it for a few months, and finally got around to adding myself to this project. I've been expanding and cleaning up a bunch of seiyū and mangaka pages (and adding a few, too). I've been trying to create a uniform look and easy-to-read format for all of them; an example of this look is found on the Tesshō Genda page. I have no wish to join this project but I am a big anime fan and can get some screen captures if anyone wants. I have: Berserk (Vol. 1), Cowboy Bebop (Complete Series + Film), Planetes (1-4), Jin-Roh, Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostra, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Rurouni Kenshin (OVA), and Ghost in the Shell (The film and Season 1). media information pages

From the project page: "If information on the structure of the anime or manga (such as episode lists, lists of volumes of manga, etc.) takes up a large amount of space, please move it to a separate page titled (series) media information. Other list-type information (such as soundtrack listings) should also be placed on this page. For an example implementation see Cowboy Bebop and Cowboy Bebop media information."

• As this information is of a list nature it would be more appropiate for it to be List of Cowboy Bebop media.
• Typically the information on the media page usually has its own list pages eg. List of Cowboy Bebop episodes. Doing so is at the editor's discretion but I think the project page should reflect that it is good practice to create the seperate list pages if someone can take the time to work on the pages.

That page has evolved in an interesting manner. It used to have a list of episode titles only and album listings with infoboxes, so it was somewhat informational. Now there are ep. descriptions, and each album has found its way onto its own separate page. But to address your concerns, certainly, a page should be broken off if there is enough material to support it. I hesitate to use the word "list" if the page contains plot summaries, though. - mako 02:38, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

It is a list, see List of Oh My Goddess episodes (featured list) or List of South Park episodes (a list formatted in accordance with Wikipedia:WikiProject List of Television Episodes). The plot summaries and extra information is what make a list of Featured List standard, but the basic overview of the article is that it is a list of oh my goddess episodes or a list of cowboy bebop media and it should be named as such. Anime Oasis

I stumbled upon the article Anime Oasis. It currently qualifies for speedy deletion since it does not assert notability. However, it seems like it might be notable so perhaps the members of this WikiProject could expand it? —Quarl ^(talk) 2006-01-28 00:47Z

I was thinking AO staffers for the infobox, stuff that congoers usually wouldn't have access to, like logo gifs, attendance estimates, etc. Certainly for the body of the article, I agree with you on that, but having staffers clean the article up and then letting attendees take it from there is probably the wisest course of action.--み使い Mitsukai 05:27, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Nice to know that I'm on the curve. But what I was kind of getting at too is that articles like this be chunked, or further merged into one article which lists them. No independant articles. I think this would make them easier to keep as well as maintained. Eluchil 04:21, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

That doesn't work for all cons. The Anime Expo and Otakon articles, for example, are huge; I'm in the midst of working on the history for con I'm attached to, Anime USA. Furthermore, AO, as I understand it, is the largest of the cons in the state (and probably the only anime one there). I'm already fighting a battle to prevent the List of anime conventions page from becoming an advertising point for every four-hour microcon some community college in the middle of nowhere is throwing; if we can't get the AO page up to snuff, maybe we should consider AFDing it, as much as I'm discomfited by that idea.--み使い Mitsukai 04:26, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

I see your point. There is, however, the option of keeping the small ones culled together, then list the larger ones with links to their own respective articles. Perhaps even add a criteria for making the list, such as size or content requirements. I agree with the AfD as a last recourse, in lieu of finding a practical solution. That was the concept behind the list, and for the longest time it was actually that way. But two days ago, someone SlayerOfChainer or someone else, not exactly sure, started creating dozens of useless microarticles, in many cases copyvio'ing them from the sites' websites in an attempt to turn the list into a catch-all for every anime con out there. I've already had to speedy about sixteen of these types of articles, but since AO is a special case, I'm not sure what to do with it. Again, I don't want to kill it off, but if we can't find a good reason for it (and with several more articles in the Anime conventions category in just as bad a condition, it's more effort than its worth.--み使い Mitsukai 04:46, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

That's unfortunate. Even more unfortunate that it can't be helped, much to the chagrin of every self-respecting editor on the Wiki. I'd have to say expand it as much as possible, find out how popular it is, and go from there. Just be done with it and address it as it comes either way. Eluchil 07:22, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Governments referencing Anime related Wikipedia articles

The National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (a Government of Canada website) heavily references wikipedia for their Dangers of Hentai Fact Sheet Unfortunately the Fact Sheet contains numerous factual errors. Jan 13th. It's pretty obvious that the person(s) who wrote it did not know anything about anime and misspelt more than a couple of words.The article is full of other poor scholarship and poor writing, including in-text citations to non-existant bibliography entries and paraphrases from Wikipedia that, although cited, as so close to direct quotes without quotation marks as to border on plagiarism. In this case making the wikipedia articles it references clearer may reduce how this government "Fact Sheet" basically incorrectly says "anime = child porn"None Error 08:29, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Their gross ineptitude aside, the distinctions can't be made any clearer than saying "anime is to hentai as movies are to porno." In my experience, fact-checking is left in the dust when an agenda is trying to be achieved. However, I can't assume as to their motives. They may be in gfdl violation for this if they have been lifting large amounts of text with only slight modification from wiki, for one thing i see no gfdl copyright notice or a notice saying this is a modified wiki document. I'm no expert on this and youd have to point out which parts of the text have been lifted from where on wiki. But this might be worth passing on to an expert.
