Fresh Coast Wikimedians usergroup?[edit]

One possible idea for the Chicago Wiknic is talk about starting a Wikimedia usergroup for volunteers in your area, maybe loosely defined as "Fresh Coast Wikimedians" focused on Chicagoland and the western section of the Great Lakes Megalopolis. You just need two or three volunteers to come forward, and to simply sign an agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation making use of trademarks and grants for outreach events easier. Similar efforts are underway at New England Wikimedians and Cascadia Wikimedians, and I could help you start a page at meta for your group as well. (I'm with the Wikimedia NYC chapter, and there is a Wikimedia DC chapter as well - but becoming a "chapter" is a later stage, and is about incorporating as a nonprofit.)--Pharos (talk) 20:26, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot speak for anyone but myself,, but I kinda hate the term "Fresh Coast". Fresh is also considered slang, and stupid slang at that. Third Coast would be fine. Or even Middle Coast, - Jack Sebastian (talk) 03:09, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the name choice is totally up to the local group consensus. The only important thing is to define an effective territory for volunteers to coordinate over, and go with that.--Pharos (talk) 19:57, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
