Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Syracuse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Syracuse physician assistant program is interested in potentially collaborating with WP:Wikiproject Medicine. The number of students involved is X.

Structure of the project[edit]

Med Wiki is used often by health care professionals, health care professionals in training, and the general public. The potential for this in terms of disseminating knowledge is profound. The need for good writing serving the needs of a broad user base and for valid, value ranked information is clear. We seek to expose our PA students to a broad range of professional experiences and to prepare them to communicate and collaborate well. Our educational program seeks also to sensitize our students to the value of service professionalism. Having our PAs participate in the WikiProject Medicine would be a worthwhile activity in light of these above mentioned priorities. It is proposed that we would pilot a trial of a few students editing with close input from supervising faculty-trained to be effective by Wiki editors and expert Wikipedians- to be sure that accuracy and academic integrity is maintained. The UCSF program referenced today in Inside Higher Ed [1] is very compelling and perhaps our students could one day collaborate with their students.

  1. Train interested key faculty in Wiki Editing through virtual meetings with Wiki editors and expert Wikipedians
  2. Recruit a small number of interested second year students, perhaps 3, to be the pilot editors
  3. Edit, review by faculty, collaborate with Wiki editors and expert Wikipedians as needed, perhaps these Wiki professionals would sometimes communicate with and educate our students via Wiki talk or come to visit our campus
  4. Contribute
  5. Repeat
