On the Job (2013 film)[edit]

Piolo Pascual

On the Job is a 2013 neo-noir crime thriller film directed by Erik Matti and written by Matti and Michiko Yamamoto. It stars Joel Torre and Gerald Anderson as contract killing prisoners who are temporarily released from jail by corrupt officials to perform political executions and are reincarcerated. Piolo Pascual (pictured) and Joey Marquez portray law enforcers tasked with investigating the drug-related murder case connected to the prison gun-for-hire business. For the film's premise, Matti took inspiration from a service driver of Viva Films who claimed to have been involved in contract killing himself while in jail, and he incorporated this account into a screenplay he co-wrote with Yamamoto. A production of Star Cinema and Matti's film company Reality Entertainment, On the Job was shot in Manila on a budget of 47 million (about $1.1 million). It had its world premiere in the Directors' Fortnight at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in May, before its Philippine release in August and North American release in September. Critical reception for the film was very positive, both home and overseas. A sequel miniseries by Matti began principal photography in July 2017. (Full article...)

  • Reasons for nomination: It is the first Philippine film to attain the Featured Article standards and I'd like for it to appear in the main page in an attempt to showcase it. It is also my first stab in TFA.
