There are few similar navigation templates for cities, nor are there standards for inclusion. I've been whittling this template down for a while, and creating spin-off templates. This template is simply no longer needed, and other more specific categories can be created, if needed. --Another Believer _(Talk) 05:01, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was change as discussed. As a clarification, this is essentially a "no consensus" close because the discussion by the participants did not directly address the deletion of this template, but rather a rather complicated set of mergers and replacements. The nominator and participants are welcome to make the changes mentioned in this discussion, as well as hold additional dialogue, and if it is deemed necessary there is NPASR. This template was recently made and is redundant as the articles are already linked to by the Template:Swiss legislatures. Île flottante (talk) 20:50, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

As explained on Template talk:Swiss legislatures, it is only partially redundant as it lists both the cantonal parliaments and the cantonal governments. One of the most interesting things is to navigate between governments and parliaments of any given cantons (rather than from national to regional parliaments). I therefore suggest to:

• Keep the Template:Politics of Swiss cantons on pages of cantonal governments.
• Replace the Template:Swiss legislatures by the Template:Politics of Swiss cantons for cantonal parliaments (27/35 of the links on Template:Swiss legislatures).
• Replace the Template:Swiss legislatures by the Template:Politics of Switzerland for federal institutions (3/35 of the links on Template:Swiss legislatures).
• Keep the Template:Swiss legislatures on the page Federal Diet of Switzerland or delete de template (1/35 of the links on Template:Swiss legislatures).
• Keep the Template:Switzerland topics on the pages Helvetic Republic and Switzerland (3/35 of the links on Template:Swiss legislatures).
• Do not add templates on the page Legislature (1/35 of the links on Template:Swiss legislatures).
• Add relevant links in the 'below' section of Template:Politics of Switzerland if necessary (for example, Federal Diet of Switzerland or List of political parties in Switzerland, if you wish).

The politics template incorrectly conflates too many issues into one template. The executives and legislatures of the Cantons (not regions!) fulfill different functions and this distinction must be maintained. All Swiss Cantons have collegial governments formed from the major parties in the canton and they also have significant aspects of semi-direct democracy that surpass the obligatory referendum, facultative referendum and popular initiative available at he federal level. Reducing Swiss politics to the legislatures and the executives does not represent the fact that most major political decisions in Switzerland are ultimately decided by the people and the Cantons or the people alone (federal) and the people of the Cantons (cantonal matters). I don’t think this oversimplification is helpful as it will lead people to fundamentally misunderstand the Swiss constitutional arrangement. Île flottante (talk) 16:49, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
