Citation Needed! An Edit-A-Thon at Vanderbilt University[edit]

The Jean and Alexander Heard Library at Vanderbilt University is hosting an Edit-A-Thon titled, "CITATION NEEDED!"We hope to increase the authority of Wikipedia one citation at a time. Join the university librarians for a day of rigor, research, and refreshments at Vanderbilt University's historic Peabody Library.

Come practice your research and editing skills with us.

  • 12 noon - Orientation and catered lunch
  • 12:45 PM - Professor Carwil Bjork-James will address edit-a-thon participants on bringing citable sources to bear on undercovered topics on Wikipedia, with examples from his Indigenous Rights class, as well as his editing work on African Americans in Tennessee, The Personal is Political, and more.
  • 1:15 to 5 PM - Edit Wikipedia with a focus on researching and citing sources where content is flagged with citation needed.

Vanderbilt University Central Library

WHO: We invite Vanderbilt students, faculty, staff, and all Wikipedians in the Nashville area.

WHAT: This Edit-a-thon will focus on replacing 'citation needed' flags with citations to authoritative sources. University librarians will be on hand to assist in research and proper citation style. This event is FREE. Lunch and a snack will be provided.

WHEN: Friday, October 23, 2015, 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM central time

WHERE: The edit-a-thon will be held at Vanderbilt University's Peabody Library in the third floor computer lab:Maps, Directions, and Parking

OTHER: Computers, Wifi and electrical outlets will be provided at Peabody Library, but feel free to bring your own laptop for use. It is recommended that you create a Wikipedia account beforehand since Wikipedia has a limit on the number of accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period (currently 6). Please send a message to Warga1 or if you have any questions regarding creating an account.
