The possessive Edmunds's[edit]

No I am not going to change it back as I don't wish to get into an edit war over something so trivial. You are correct that both can be correct but just as you prefer the 'horrible' singular zzz sound I prefer to speak proper English. I suppose it comes from my 1950s grammar school education and a teacher that speared you with a blackboard rubber if you misused apostrophes. Omitting the additional s is more of an American thing and I would far prefer to see traditional British English punctuation in Britcentric articles.

However, as a rule of thumb in contentious matters like this I would use the 's when originating text myself, but don't tend to change existing copy from one form to another "just because I like it". As I said I will not revert your edit, but would cheer your generous spirit if you self reverted in this case. That's very gracious of you. Apologies for not replying sooner. I'm not used to the "message" process.

I'm not sure I agree that it is an American thing (and I'm from Lancashire, just in case you were wondering). I find people tend to drop the 's for a z sound but keep it for a hard s sound, except in certain cases such as Croesus's where it just sounds clunky, and in the absence of a hard and fast rule it seems better to punctuate as spoken. I think it was probably Edmunds's and Lowe's that set me off more than just Edmunds's on its own.

(ZodKneelsFirst is a rather convoluted joke that's hilarious in my head, but doesn't really bear explanation).
