Yosef Karduner

Oh dear ... I have postponed the DYK for Yosef Karduner as when I checked the hook before promoting it I couldn't see the bit about "international hit". I even had a quick look at a source and I could only find a bit about people singing it in religious groups in different countries. I didn't pull it so you should be able to repair it or explain to me what I've missed. Cheers R Victuallers (talk) 14:27, 12 November 2015 (UTC) Thanks for calm reply. Seems better.... did it chart in the popular lists? Victuallers (talk) 15:42, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

I have chosen one of the hooks you suggested and made the change. @BlueMoonset: in an unsigned edit?? suggests that "classic" is the word. I have seen the evidence for widely sung but not for "classic". Can you just check that we have a ref for either "classic" or "widely sung" . Victuallers (talk) 16:47, 12 November 2015 (UTC) (although a cynic might sat that psalm s were widely sung and classic 2,000 years before Yosef made his tune :-) }

List of Record Labels

Hi Yoninah, regarding this edit [2]. The List of record labels: A–H is truly a list of record labels, not a list of companies that own/operate record labels. Since the record label "exists" in wikipedia as a re-direct, that is how I listed. Is there any particular reason the group should appear on that list, and not the record label? Tomorrow's hook

the hook for tomorrow says "... that Keith White, a one-armed sailor, set out on 25 October 2015 to attempt to become the first disabled person to sail solo around the world?" What it should have said was "... that Keith White, a one-armed sailor, set out on 25 October 2015 to attempt to become the first disabled person to sail nonstop solo around the world?" Of course, he failed due to a massive equipment failure. But if the queue and the hook is fixed, then we can get on with our lives. I say it is more important to fix the problem than it is to fix the blame. 7&6=thirteen () 17:04, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

I should be able to upload some of those vintage postcards. Sands Hotel and Casino was an enjoyable one. The Desert Inn was like the second Sands of that era. Jacob Snowman (the "Royal Mohel")

I've just started an article on Jacob Snowman, and hope you'll have a look with an eye to developing better and more comprehensive sourcing. His name came up a fair bit in news coverage in recent years, particularly in Israel and the Jewish press, but the Darby and Cozijn article casts a lot of doubt on whether Snowman was employed by the Royal Family for reasons related to a well-established circumcision tradition, or because he was simply the best and most experienced MD in London for this sort of specialty. I do think he's notable and his bio would ultimately make the cut at AfD if we can can get up to speed on accurate birth/death records, sourcing his publishing history, documenting his relationship to the Initiation Society and the British Jewish community (one book source says he was Isaiah Berlin's family doctor in Hampstead), etc., and I think you are much better placed to find some of these resources than I am. Currently, I'm unsure if he was definitely a rabbi at all -- does a mohel have to be a rabbi? -- and am relying on the Jewish Chronicle for that, although I'm doubtful other claims in that article are accurate. I'd definitely be up for bringing this to DYK together if that would be of interest of you. It's an unusual bio, definitely one I'd like to read and know more about, but I just don't know how well his life can be independently documented -- and I want to sort the truth from the royal mythos, if possible. Notwithstanding the well-founded skepticism of Darby and Cozijn, there does seem to be a relationship between the Snowman and Windsor families that crosses generations, and I thought that should be at least alluded to, with the digression re: Wartski and the wedding bands. Ida Silverman

I don't know if you would be interested, and if you aren't, I am, but I am working on the Rhode Island Hall of Fame and found this woman Ida Silverman who is fascinating. She was born in Russia, lived in Rhode Island for years, and died in Israel. She was the only woman who was vice president of the Zionist Organization of America and vice president of the American Jewish Congress; she and her husband founded around one hundred synagogues throughout the world; she was a huge supporter of creation of the state of Israel. I found this bio from 6 November 1973 [3], obit, books, and a ton of other stuff. SusunW (talk) 22:14, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
