Welcome![edit]

Hello, XuLily, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. What a pleasant surprise, thank you! XuLily (talk) 18:09, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi XuLily,
It looks like that's a synonym for Ochlerotatus taeniorhynchus, which doesn't have an article yet. (Just had a look at Ochlerotatus - that looks complicated.) Happy to help out.
Peter in Australia aka --Shirt58 (talk) 02:09, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Peter! I was assigned Aedes taeniorhynchus for a school project that's part of Wiki Project Diptera. I'll take note of your comment about Ochlerotatus taeniorhynchus as I continue doing research. I'll let you know if you have any questions! XuLily (talk) 03:08, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I have WP:INDENT-d this talk page conversion by adding a colon in front of your reply, and two colons in front of this reply. Also: you might find that Aedes taeniorhynchus might be "moved" to "WP:DRAFTSPACE" page Draft:Aedes taeniorhynchus with the "edit summary" for example "(Shirt58 moved page Aedes taeniorhynchus to Draft:Aedes taeniorhynchus without leaving a redirect: Undersourced, incubate in draftspace (via script)). In summary: yep, Wikipedia is enormous and ridiculously complicated. --Shirt58 (talk) 09:32, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining things and for moving the page to a better place for drafting! I really appreciate your help! XuLily (talk) 14:29, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Aedes taeniorhynchus[edit]

Hi. For copyright reasons, I had to hide a few of your revisions from the edit history of Aedes taeniorhynchus. Keep in mind that everything that's added to Wikipedia remains in the page's edit history, so you can't paste content in and then summarize it - since the original content remains in the page history, someone else might find it there, not realize it's copyright, and believe it's free to re-use or re-add to the article. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:25, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's useful to paste the original material into the article inside HTML comments as you work, but you must only use "Preview" until you've used and removed it. (I've made this mistake myself before now.)
Please note WP:REFPUNCT – the style here is to put references after punctuation. Also if every sentence in a paragraph is referenced to the same source, you can just put the reference at the end of the paragraph.
This is not to detract from your excellent work on the article. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:44, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ian and Peter, thank you both so much for your comments! I will be sure not to do this again in the future and will use Peter's suggestions about using the Preview. XuLily (talk) 06:11, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
