XIcedEarthX's Response to Picture Problems[edit]

Response: Then delete the pictures you mentioned. It is of no concern to me. I just figured I would put actual pictures onto those sites but people make it a giant ordeal here. Instead of making people read through miles and miles of red tape, perhaps you should make a simpler process of knowing what is accepted or not. Making an "online encyclopedia of the people" should also mean any person can edit it with relatively little hassle. I was merely trying to help this site, not get a nasty amount of messages from you making me into some "vandal". In response to those pictures however, if there was an option for the person who uploaded the pictures (ie. me) to delete them, then this wouldn't even be a conversation, would it?

I myself do not have the access to delete said images—the maintenance tags serve in part to signal to those who do that there are problems with the images that need to be addressed. Also, I understand that you are trying to help, and apologize for coming on harshly to you, but you do need to realize that the "miles and miles of red tape" are necessary because of copyright law—Wikipedia must respect others' copyrights in order to succeed in its own goal of being an "online encyclopedia of the people." I hope that you will continue to contribute to Wikipedia, but unless you feel eager to tackle the red tape, would advise against contributing photographs created by anyone other than yourself. Image tagging for Image:Louholtz1.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Louholtz1.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

More image problems[edit]

XIcedEarthX, even after the discussions on this page, you are still uploading unfree copyrighted images that are not allowed by Wikipedia's Image use policy and fair use policy. You're right, the rules are quite complicated, and there is some red tape, but that is because we are a free content project and only allow unfree works to be used in a few very specific cases, and only when there is no other choice. We can not use Image:Giantcenter.jpg, for example, because it is possible for someone take their own photo of the building and release it under a free license. Do not upload any more images until you have thoroughly read the two policy pages that I have linked. If you have any questions whatsoever, do not hesitate to ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. ×Meegs 08:55, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Gillie.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gillie.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 11:31, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
