WATE-TV

Good catch on the WATE-TV page with the "Nielsen" ratings.. Somebody else did that one and I didn't see it. Csneed (talk) 03:41, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Csneed. Before Kentucky Educational Television, WLJC-TV, and WYMT-TV came along, people in Eastern Kentucky had to watch out-of-area stations to watch news, weather, and other programming about their region. As one who lives in that part of the state, I think it is important to look at the historical importance of out-of-area stations which serve the region. Willking1979 (talk) 09:49, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Issue X - July 2009
Project news
  • The Christianity project and its related projects currently have 76 FAs, 8 FLs, and 148 GAs. We gained new recognized content in each field, with 4 FAs promoted, 2 FLs, and 3 GAs. Congratulations and a big thank you to all those who worked on these articles!
Member news
Other news
  • I am still working on the categorization matter. With any luck, we should have some results by the end of the month. There are also some discussions regarding project related activities at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/General Forum. One issue in particular that might be addressed is possible elections of new coordinators. Anyone interested in serving in such a capacity is more than welcome to indicate as much.
Related projects news
Member contest of the month
  • The previous contests are still ongoing, because of the extreme amount of time the categorization is taking me. Anyone who can bring any of the few Stub class articles among the project's 1000 most often accessed articles by the end of July will get an award. Please see the details Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christianity#Project challenge of the month.
Christianity related news
From the Members

Welcome to the Tenth issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It has been a long time since the last coordinators election. There is a lot for people to do, and I certainly would welcome seeing any individuals with an interest in such a position put themselves forward as candidates. I in particular would very much like to see some degree of "specialization" in the coordinators, so that, for instance, we might have someone knowledgable about some of the specific Christian faith traditions or other main subjects, like Orthodoxy, Lutheranism, Mormonism, the Jehovah's Witnesses, art, theology, and so on. If any parties who have experience with some of our faith- or- subject-based content would be interested in being candidates, I would love to see them do so. Please feel free to take part in the discussion regading what the minimum number of category items is, and how to deal with the non-qualifying categories, on the General Forum page.

Fair use expert

Are you or do you know an expert in claiming fair use on images? I need an image for William S. Taylor, and the only one I've found is here. It says the date of the image is unknown, and I can't find the artist's biographical details anywhere, so I can't prove he's been dead for 100 years (or at least died before 1923, which would mean the date of the image was prior to 1923 and therefore in the public domain). I think I'd have a solid fair use claim because I'm illustrating the subject in question. He's been dead since 1928, and in all my research for William Goebel, Taylor, and J.C.W. Beckham, I've not run across another image of him (free or otherwise), so this may be the only extant image and therefore be non-replaceable. I just need someone to show me the appropriate template or whatever to make my claim. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 12:29, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

If you are absolutely unsure of a rationale, I would try this template {{Non-free unsure}} until you can find a rationale. Hopefully that would help. A Google search of the artist did not uncover much...the only things that came close were the sites of the Kentucky Historical Society. Willking1979 (talk) 12:44, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Your submission of Big Blue Sports Network at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Rebafan Sock

I am trying to get it blocked, if anything, for just being an obvious sock. - NeutralHomerTalk • 20:26, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I placed sock tags within the sock's userspace. Hopefully the user will be blocked soon. Willking1979 (talk) 20:34, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
I had to go to an Autism Q&A tonight, during that time the account, unfortunately, has not been blocked. I would keep the account on your watchlist and check the contribs often. - NeutralHomerTalk • 00:20, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
I do have the sock's talk pages watchlisted. I will check the contribs as soon after I write this. Willking1979 (talk) 00:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

defense of School of Athens

Dear Mr King--I see that you have many barnstars. Here's another expression of thanks for your alertness & action against vandalism. The "School of Athens" site gets over 20k hits/mo., likely many from students. It's for that reason that I (a university professor) rewrote its central passages. It's also for that reason that it suffers many immature interventions, & needs steady monitoring. That requires the patience & generosity that you and some others show, without which Wikipedia would be destroyed. All contributors and users should be grateful.Alethe (talk) 06:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome, Alethe. I appreciate your comments and contributions to Wikipedia. Willking1979 (talk) 10:00, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

ACC

Will you look at this request and confirm that I handled the situation appropriately? The reason that Bejinhan closed as too similar is because he lacks either +sysop or +accountcreator and cannot override spoofing checks. Best, →javért stargaze 10:13, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps you should have re-marked it as "Done," but that could have caused confusion for the new user because of conflicting emails from the tool. You may want to email the new user personally regarding the situation, explaining the conflicting Wikipedia emails. Willking1979 (talk) 10:21, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
The interface wouldn't allow me to mark it as "done", however I did send the user another email explaining the confusion and that his account had been created. Thanks Will. Best, →javért stargaze 10:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks for all you do, Willking1979 (talk) 10:39, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

ACC

Hi. This is about the account that you created for Chrisandchad. I looked through his contributions and noticed repeated vandalism. I was wondering if he could be ban or something. BejinhanTalk 12:45, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

The IP is not blocked currently and has not been warned since June. Therefore, I went ahead and created the account. I will monitor for any vandalism from that account, though. Willking1979 (talk) 12:59, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

signatures

Hey, thanks for creating my account. Do you know how to edit signatures and make them look nice? I don't know a whole lot of html but i can apply what i find online pretty well. I'm trying make it with light green text on dark green background, then offwhite text on brown background. Then only way I know how to make background for text like that is to use a table and bgcolor in it. It looks alright when I type it out, but for some reason it doesn't work in my signature.

LimeintheCoconut
<table cellspacing=0><tr bgcolor=#006400 style="font-family:Tahoma;color:#7FFF00;font-size:24px;"><td>Lime</td><td bgcolor=#8B4513 style="color:#FFF8DC;">in</td><td>the</td><td bgcolor=#8B4513 style="color:#FFF8DC;">Coconut</td></tr></table>

that's what I tried using. Do you know what I'm doing wrong or how to do it without using the table tag?<table cellspacing=0 bgcolor=#006400><tr style="font-family:Tahoma;color:#7FFF00;font-size:24px;"><td>Lime</td><td bgcolor=#8B4513 style="color:#FFF8DC;">in</td><td>the</td>><td bgcolor=#8B4513 style=color:#FFF8DC;">Coconut</td></tr></table> (talk) 22:25, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

I am not that good in HTML editing. However, you may find this link helpful. Thanks for the question, Willking1979 (talk) 22:33, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Try this:
<span style="font-family:Tahoma;font-size:24px;"><span style="color:#7FFF00;background-color:#006400;">Lime</span><span style="color:#FFF8DC;background-color:#8B4513;">in</span><span style="color:#7FFF00;background-color:#006400;">the</span><span style="color:#FFF8DC;background-color:#8B4513;">Coconut</span></span>
Sorry for the long scroll. It just takes a lot of markup to do this. Acdixon (talk contribs count) 14:36, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

rgowran 10:32p.m. EST 08/22/2009

  • I am asking that you stop deleting my edits to the Jack Van Impe entry. I am being tagged as at "edit war". The information I am conveying comes directly from recent Van Impe programs, which are available for viewing on his website. The information is true, unbiased and reputable. The information is pertinent and informative to someone seeking the latest information on Van Impe's views and statements.

Thank you, —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rgowran (talkcontribs) 02:35, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

You need to look at the edit summaries of the reverts by myself and others. You need to understand that secondary, reliable third-party independent sources are required. See WP:CITE and WP:BLP for related policies regarding citations and sources on articles of living people. Willking1979 (talk) 02:43, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

rgowran

  • I would submit to you that the information is directly from Van Impe himself. Anyone who listens or watches the August 5, 2009 episode of Van Impe's show would see that the information was completely accurate. If transcripts of the show were available, I would submit them, however since they are not, a review of the program would clear up the issue. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rgowran (talkcontribs) 02:54, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
If one views a program and writes an essay about it on wiki, that is original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Again, reliable third-party sources are needed. Willking1979 (talk) 02:59, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Completely agree with Willking here. You would need links that show exactly what is being spoken, direct links and reliable ones. Also you would need to make sure this information will withstand the WP:BLP standards. - NeutralHomerTalk • 03:01, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

rgowran

  • The information added by me would not be considered an essay. The information was pertinent to the heading, "Personal Views" and went no further, and probably less, than other information added to the article previously. Again, this is just information stated from Van Impe himself and a link was provided to substantiate what was written. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rgowran (talkcontribs) 03:07, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

rgowran

  • The information I added to the Van Impe entry in Wikipedia was accurate and unbiased. The information was conveyed almost quote for quote by Van Impe. Any question to the validity can be easily put to rest by viewing the Van Impre program from August 5, 2009. There are multiple references alluding to Obama being one of the possibilities for leader of the "New World Order". Van Impe slyly alludes to Obama as possibly the anti-Christ of the book of Revelation in the Bible. I did not enter that in my submission, because Van Impe has not (yet anyway) outright called Obama the anti-Christ. However, the information I provided was true, accurate, unbiased, pertinent and recent. Thank you,

--Rgowran (talk) 03:10, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

(ec)That link, even though it had streaming video, was not hosted by Van Impe's ministry. My reasoning for the revert is that it looked like it was not neutral. Make sure you understand Wikipedia policy. We are here to build an encyclopedia, not to push an agenda. Willking1979 (talk) 03:15, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
(EC)It doesn't matter if it came from the man himself, you heard it on TV, copied it down, that is original research. It requires at least 2 reliable sources. Also, I highly doubt it is "true, accurate" or "unbiased" and probably wouldn't last long under Wikipedia's WP:BLP rules. - NeutralHomerTalk • 03:17, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
You insult our intelligence by claiming your edits were not biased, especially with a response like that. Furthermore, everything in the Personal views section needs a source from a reliable THIRD-PARTY reference, meaning somewhere other than Van Impe himself, per WP:BLP policy, AND it needs to be relevant somehow to his biography overall. Van Impe has said a lot of things people may think is controversial, if you think those comments by him you inserted should be in his bio you need to show why they are relevant by backing it up with a reliable source that would explain the significance of those particular statements. Besides there's already mention of Obama in that section, which is also uncited I might add, and will probably not stay there for long. -- œ 03:22, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
I am way past my bedtime, but Neutralhomer, OldEngllsh and myself have made legit points. We are here not to smear others, but to build something--a free-content encyclopedia--that is valuable to a lot of people. Willking1979 (talk) 03:28, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Van Impe Video Archives

rgowran Sorry to hear your intelligence was insulted. Since you did not understand that, I will apologize. That was not the intent. I am sorry that you did not figure out that the streaming video does in fact originate from Jack Van Impe Ministries. Although the host site may not be owned and/or operated by JVIM, his site does link to it for hosting his show archives.

I believe that claims by Jack Van Impe, when taken in full context, are in fact pertinent. No need to respond to this entry. I will continue my case on my discussion page and that of Van Impe. Thank you for your input. --Rgowran (talk) 03:40, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: Big news that may need a page move

Wait until it is official with the FCC and then move WKIC to WKIC (AM), make WKIC the disambig and move the FM to WKIC-FM. When making the disambig, use the style similar to WINC. If you need any help, please ask :) - NeutralHomerTalk • 15:53, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

I will indeed watch the FCC database for the official change. I also subscribe to the email version of the FCC Daily Digest, which lists actions taken. The moment I hear of an official notice, I'll move the pages. Thanks, Willking1979 (talk) 16:13, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Update: Based on the FCC database, it was a swap of call signs. WZQQ is now on the AM, WKIC, as I mentioned on Monday, is on the FM. The FM station still plays Hot AC music while the AM station (as far as I know) continues to play soft AC music. Your thoughts on a page move? Willking1979 (talk) 23:24, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Update #2: I have moved the appropriate pages, fixed the redirects, and cited the call sign histories. See WKIC-FM and WZQQ (AM). Willking1979 (talk) 23:34, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Would it be against policy to nominate User:Uncia? He is away temporarily. He's been nice with an article that I'm writing with him. He's been around for a while. He offers good advice but is not too chatty. I think some people will get mad if I entered Uncia's name and it probably wouldn't be right without getting his ok first. What do you think? The Mountain Heritage Festival is going on this week in Whitesburg and I'm sure thousands will attend the goings on this week. I'm sure many out-of-town visitors planning their trips here are going to view the Whitesburg and Letcher County articles. I expect a slight increase in article views for those articles this week. Thanks for all you do, Willking1979 (talk) 11:29, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Congrats

Just wanted to let you know that, consensus having been reached, you're now a sysop. Feel free, if you like, to check out WP:NAS, WP:ARL and WP:AHTG. Remember to act in accordance with policy, and if the vandals and other sources of stress get to you, go back to editing articles for awhile -- it's why we're here, after all. Congrats again, and good luck :). -- Pakaran 02:39, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, Pakaran. This is a huge privilege which I do not take lightly. I appreciate the support of the community and--I want to say this from the bottom of my heart--you all are among my best friends on earth. Willking1979 (talk) 02:46, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Sorry didn't know you had an RfA going or I would have voted. To make up for it, let me be the first to present you with this userbox....

Thanks, Orlady. :) Willking1979 (talk) 09:51, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

User:Denbaby block

Thanks for that block. (I'm always a little concerned that thanking people is just one more imposition for them, as you are compelled to visit your user page when you probably have 8 better things to do. Ah well, that's what you get for having a mop in your hand :) --Tagishsimon (talk) 02:26, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome, Tagishsimon. Thanks for all you do. :) Willking1979 (talk) 02:33, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
I see from the Signpost that your mop is shiny & new. Well done. Very brave of you :) --Tagishsimon (talk) 11:38, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
