Just to drop in as an uninvolved third person, who found this conversation interesting but hard to follow ;) My usual policy is to reply on the other person's talk page and copy the reply onto mine. That means I get a complete record of the conversation. It is quite common that I find myself referring back to past conversations, so that's pretty useful. My talk page gets pretty busy as well so it would take me ages if I wanted to track down replies all over the place. I have to remove his illegal warning because I have a permission from Wikipedia in Florida. He committed a crime by making discriminating and he failed to listening to me so I have to call Wikipedia again tomorrow to file a complaint against him and I am going to sue him. do you want to join him? RC Perl[edit]

I will definately do this if I find that the script does not work well enough as is; however, all admins are required to leave summaries when editing AIV that say whether the list is empty. Looking at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jew-fro, I would reccomend being a bit more patient with newbies. They may not have been sockpuppets, they might have been meatpuppets. If so, then the term "sockpuppet" or "meatpuppet" could possibly be scaring away a newcomer, when we could accomplish the same goal of discounting their opinions more politely, such as with Template:afdanons, and explaining to them that because they are new, their opinions will probably be discounted by the closing administrator, but they are welcome to share their opinion anyways. Good point; I should have done it. I didn't know about that template back then and my actions were probably influenced by the (pretty nasty!) personal attacks that I was a target of. 67.32.172.177 said "good job" at User talk:CNN 5 after...
CNN 5 made the exact same edits to the exact same articles.

Jordanjames just messed with Jake's page a few minutes ago after I posted a warning, see history for details.

Also, the Ted Casablanca thing looks good but isn't: Ted runs a Blind Item column in which he has been alluding to a bisexual actor called Toothy Tile for a year. This is what jordanjames means. While it IS almost certain Toothy Tile is Jake (and his boyfriend may well be Austin - there are many, very obvious, clues that point to them), this cannot be verified in a way that can added to Wikipedia. Okay, I just thought that if all versions before the copyvio tag was added had the copyrighted text, the article would have to be deleted (after all, what would we need the whole copyvio procedure for if a simple edit would do?). But if you think it's okay with the copyvios left in the history, go ahead. However, since there's hardly any content in the articles anyway, could you maybe just redirect them to We Don't Need to Whisper (as I did in the temp versions)? Basically an image use is fair when we are talking about the image, and not when we are talking about the person/place depicted on the image. This is just a very general rule of thumb, of course. Wikipedia:Fair use has the detailed Wikipedia guidelines on fair use of texts and images. For a quick pick on what my be directly related to this case, I may want to focus on Counterexample #7 on Wikipedia:Fair use#Counterexamples (but read the whole page, anyway. It' important). I block obvious vandalism only accounts indef, like 5 + cases of vandalism in the same hour with no good faith edits as they normally have no chance of reforming, that guy was heavy vandalising Power Ranger related pages alot. Hi - excuse me, but it is virtually inconceivable to me that (1) I would even dream of deriding or attacking a great person like Kylu, and (2) that the time-honoured phrase is remotely sexist or derogatory. Comments about unique qualities of women are more often than not, compliments. Plus, given the "Ballistic support" I expressed for her, how did you have any reason to think my latter comment was a personal attack, implicit or otherwise?

And no, I will not refrain from making such comments because I do not desire to be politically correct. If such comments are some feminist's idea of an insult, tough. In all honesty, I find your accusation that Arab-Israelis are being treated like the Jews were treated under the Nazi regime quite horrifying. While there is unfortunately some discrimination, Arab-Israelis are capable of voting and holding any type of job. And no Arab-Isrealis are being forcing into concentration camps and gassed. In fact, the only deliberate killings of Arab-Israelis that I can think of were by Jewish-Israeli terrorists, and these instances do not happen very often. However, I am relieved to find that this disagreement is just a disagreement on what is actually happening, rather than a disagreement on what should happen. We both agree in equality and human rights. My talk[edit]

I'm advocating an Arab Palestinian state, occupying the historical territories of Palestine, since the jewish occupation of the region is a recent fenomenon (it started in a massive scale after WWII) and the Israeli actions seem to follow a policy of total humiliation and annihilation of the Palestinian populations. Of course the Israelis can remain in the territory, with the same statute the so-called "Arab-Israelis" have in the current state of Israel. According to the Israelis, their status is perfectly dignus, so, there should be no problem. The images of the Operation Summer Rains triggered the inclusion of the map, along my knowledge of the conflict, which originated, in part, with some contacts I've made during my life with Palestinian diplomats and politicians and also with Israeli people, most notably, Ely Karmon, who is certainly among the most arrogan persons I've seen in my whole life. One of my greatest political concerns is the recognition of people's right to self determination. Palestinians had their own state before the Israeli occupation, so, their state should be recreated in its former location, the Palestinian part of the former Mandate for Palestine, which was inhabited by an absolute majority of arabs. Despite living in their own teritory, Arab-Israelis are treated as second-class citiziens, a little bit like jews in Nazi Germany, that's a total humiliation. Despite being immigrants, Israelis should be considered regular citizens in a Palestinian state, as I, being from a country of immigrants, have the biggest respect for immigrants. I'm not even discussing the brutality of Israeli actions in Palestine, I could speak of the countless massacres carried by the Israeli Defence Forces, the wall around Gaza, the assassination of Palestinian political leaders, the selective and deliberate destruction of Palestinian facilities, the disrespect for UN Resolutions, etc, etc. Concluding: jews left Palestine 18 centuries ago, so, it is an Arab territory under occupation, actually, occupation of territory is part of jewish doctrine. Perhaps you don't recall, but Nobel laureate José Saramago was accused of anti-semitism after comparing the treatment of Palestinians to the holocaust. And you also seem to reduce the whole discussion to the status of the Arab-Israelis, when I was speaking about the situation of the entire Palestinian population. Bug: Comment Localization Script and History Pages' Radio Buttons[edit]

Hi. I believe I've found a problem with your comment localization script — I believe it disables some of the radio buttons on many (but not all) history pages. (Why not all? The difference may have something to do with spaces in an article's name. I'm not sure. This was suggested by another coder.) (This comment localization script being the culprit would also make sense given that radio buttons are right next to the time and date on a history page.)

I'm not a coder, so I can't point to particular code as the culprit, but I did a massively comprehensive trial by error by rebuilding my monobook from scratch and then pulling out and putting in modules -- it was when I pulled out the comment localization script that the error disappeared. I was going to provide you with full information here, but then realized that my debugging talk thread on the Scripts UserProject and my monobook.js' history screen probably provide all the proof and information you need.

Hello Where, not to be a burden, but you do know Wikipedia a whole lot better than I do. i was experiementing with those windows that you can 'Click to Show' and 'Click to Hide'. I made a successful one a User:Scrumshus/Userbox mini. However, when I tried to work it into my infobox on the left side of my userpage, it wouldn't cooperate. I would suggest that wherebot's reporting format is {{User:Wherebot/template|wiki-page|http://example.com}}, and people could improve on the reporting format without having to bug you to change it. I also have some an idea for the pages that have been deleted to not show on the list with the #ifexist parserfunction, but it would be much easier if the bot used the template. Well, I just think it's kind of ugly already. It looks very "scrambled", or for a better word, "unorganized". And, for the edit summaries of the bot, I think it shouldn't say the exact edit it's making, because that is unhelpful (e.g. five tildes don't subst in edit summaries, etc.. ). I think the summary should be changed from:
Robot: Automated text replacement (-'''Only remove this line if you want the bot to stop functioning''' +* Article -- [http://example.com example.com]. Reported at ~~~~~ '''
into:

Please be more careful with copyvios[edit]

You deleted Maria Teresa, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg in July on the basis that there was a copyvio. All you actually had to do was delete the copyvio text, or if you couldn't tell which bits of the text were copyvios delete the text fully and replace it with a 2 line stub. Instead you deleted the entire page. As a result you

deleted the date of birth of the woman in question
deleted the standard template used in articles of that sort, with all the links in it
deleted non-copyvio information like the name of her grandson
deleted all the categories.

As a result of deleting the article rather than fixing it a bot then deleted all the directs to it, on the basis that the article they were redirecting to did not exist. Someone else then created a new article about the woman under a different name, which meant that the new article linked to none of the old links in other articles. Luckily it is an obscure topic or we could have had various users innocently starting articles on the same topic under the various different links to what had been redirect pages.

You don't delete pages with copyvios. You remove the copyvio or stub it. And you don't delete patiently non-copyvio stuff like dates of birth, categories and templates. I've had to spend ages tonight as an admin trying to untangle the mess, undelete the redirect pages, move pages around and dig around under the deleted page to salvage all the non-copyvio stuff you lost. I don't doubt the genuineness of your actions. Unfortunately they did have alkward consequences. But we all make mistakes and thankfully this one could be rectified. First of all, I would like to express my regret that this incident took place; doubtlessly, I will take more care in the future. However, at the time the article was deleted it was like this; there was very little material that was not from here (there were no categories and there was no template at the time). That being said, it looks like there was a small amount (I was able to find 2 sentences) of non-copyvio material, and this is unfortunate. I must have saw that the vast majority of the article was a copyright violation and incorrectly assumed that the rest of it was also.

I am confused by your remark "you don't delete pages with copyvios," as Wikipedia:Copyright problems/Advice for admins seemed to say otherwise. Perhaps the page should be amended? I will not do any more work on WP:CP until we can reach an understanding on the appropriate way to deal with copyvios.

If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.

September Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!

Hi Where!. I know that I might seem as a complainer, but you're the only person I know (other than User:GeorgeMoney!) thanm could help me.

I happened to get a very nasty keylogger on my machine, and whenever I log on to wikipedia, there are many vandalism posts using my name. I have managed to use some kind of user script to prevent me from editing any pages (don't ask me... i found it on a wikipedia userpage), except the ones i say. So, is there any way to figure out all the vandal edits I have made?

I created an example for how Wherebot might function at Wikiversity, see v:User:Wherebot#Example. The example includes a page in the "Wikiversity:" namespace where the bot can list violations and the example shows a set of templates that editors can use for dealing with the violations according to Wikiversity deletion policy. --JWSchmidt 16:49, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries in pywikipedia[edit]

Howdy!

I recently noticed that Wherebot (talk · contribs) apparently uses the default "Wikipedia python library" edit summary when editing Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations. To change that, before invoking the Page.put() method you should first call wikipedia.setAction("Hey! It's my edit summary!"). Also, to turn off marking edits as minor, use .put()'s optional parameter: Page.put(text,minorEdit=False). Cheers! —M isza 13 22:03, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach. Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.

The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived. There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia. The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested! In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias. A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted! Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

But, see, we encourage people to sign up for user accounts, and we just want to make sure things like that don't happen. If they were logged in with a user account, then we wouldn't get blocked so often. We have already been blocked. We don't want other students to not be able to edit when it was one student that caused us to be blocked. Some students have already signed up for user accounts. So, if you wouldn't mind putting the block in. If we get a huge uproar from the students, then we can deal. I just think it would be beneficial.
