Exocet
The correct response for citation needed tags in the body of the text is not to remove them but to add a cite - as there is large chunks of uncited text it isn't clear where the information is sourced from if at all. Please either restore the tags or add citations - don't edit war to make the article worse.Nigel Ish (talk) 13:48, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- The material is already cited, so I really do not see the need to restore the tags. If I may make a suggestion for future communication, lecturing or hectoring is not an effective means of getting people to agree with you. - The information isn't cited because there are no cites covering the claims - there may be references that cover it but without an actual adjacent cite it isn't cited. You say that Marcelo Kohen and Facundo Rodríguez are not reliable. You know what? First, look at yourself in the mirror, because you don't have a better curriculum vitae than Marcelo Kohen and Facundo Rodríguez. Please, feel free to find out the academic and work curricula of both Argentine authors. Also, it has removed a jurisprudential citation from the International Court of Justice I added. Isn't that a reliable source???!!! Feel free to put my addition of that jurisprudence back on the page. There are so many requirements for posting on Wikipedia that they are intended, rather, to serve as a means of censorship of what is inappropriate to post. Res ipsa loquitur. - WP:OWB When someone complains loudly about censorship, you may be certain they are up to no good.
- Quoting from a review of Kohen and Rodriguez, A history of the Falkland Islands written by lawyers, this undisguised attack on two British historians fails to meet strict academic standards; contains very little not previously explored in depth; and repeats old, long-debunked, fantasies. Examples of their low standards being the use of photoshopped versions of historical documents, use of images without attribution and accusing the objects of their attack of publishing material they were not involved with. Further if we are to allow this self-published source, we would have to for purposes of balance refer to the pamphlet that they claim to respond to and to the rebuttal published more recently. However, as all are WP:SPS its quite simple to simply not.

'is' or 'are'?
Hi WCM,
I just saw your reversion of my edit of the Falkland Islands page. I'd like to put the case for 'is' over 'are'.
I have posted a question on this on the Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names) page to see if anyone else is bothered or just us.
When referring to a territory with a name that is a plural (eg Falkland Islands, Seychelles, Maldives, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Marshall Islands) it is usual to refer to them in the singular, as the territory is a single entity. If the context of the sentence is that you are not referring to the whole territory but the constituent parts (eg 'The Falkland Islands are all beautiful except for Bleaker Island') then it would be correct to use the plural 'are'.
This was a subject of (too) much discussion when I worked for the government of such a territory and this was the conclusion that better-educated people than me came to.
The Wikipedia entry Collective_noun goes into some detail on this and does illuminate the fact that this is by no means clear-cut; the examples involving band names that I was going to use before reading it didn't work! 'The Beatles is playing this weekend.' does not look right.
By the way, Bleaker Island is actually very nice.

ProveIt and Gib
I haven't really got the hang of ProveIt to add citations (rather than just to polish what exists), so if you have time would you describe how you used it to fix that citation at Gibraltar, please? I hate just tagging missing or bad citations if I can resolve them, as I tried to do by searching Archive.org for a copy of the original. No worries if not, I'll try again to make sense of it. - It's a really good tool to use and very simple. Place the cursor where you propose to add a reference, bottom right you should see a "P" icon for the tool. Click on that and select "Add Reference", this brings up the dialogue box, look for the template tab and select the template you wish to use. The next thing to look for is automatic reference, cut and paste the appropriate data in there (it can be as simple as a URL if you're citing a web page), then select load. The tool automatically populates the basic fields for you. When you're happy with the reference, bottom right select insert and you're done. WCMemail 00:22, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

British Empire page
Hello Wee Curry Monster,
I am relatively new to editing Wikipedia articles, and I'd like to ask you to explain your decision to revert the additions I have made to the infobox of the British Empire page. As you can see from other similar pages, e.g., Spanish Empire or French Colonial Empire, their infoboxes contain quite a lot of information, not just the flags and map. If you have found any mistakes in the additions I've made, I would, of course, be grateful for your corrections. However, don't you think that having more details in the infobox is much better for the users?
Please let me know what you think and whether it would be useful to return at least some of my additions to the infobox.

- @Wiki the Octopus:No problem at all, your addition of flags denoting preceding states and succeeding states is an example of WP:OR and WP:SYN, this isn't something that sources do and you've compiled this yourself. Secondly, please refer to the talk page archive, the Infobox and Infoboxes in general are somewhat of a touchy subject in Wikipedia. There is a long standing concensus on that article to have a fairly minimal infobox. Finally, the BE article is under FAR review and we're trying to keep the article tidy. I must say I'm surprised at the Spanish Empire article had something similar to what you proposed and I guess I can see why you thought it was a good idea but it really isn't.
- You can try your suggestion in the talk page of the article but I doubt you'll get a sympathetic hearing. I hope you don't find this discouraging there is plenty of other things you can edit and feel free to ask for advice in future. WCMemail 22:11, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Revert on Spanish Empire
Hello, I noticed you reverted my edit on the Spanish Empire article where I fixed a typo (confraternaties --> confraternities). The changed spelling to confraternities is consistent with other uses of the word in the article and is the correct dictionary spelling, so I am confused as to why the edit was reverted. – Normal Name (talk) 22:06, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

- I was already commenting, I found that discussion via the link from WP:ANI#User making a point of starting trouble.. As a bit of personal advice, your reverts were correct but edit warring with someone like this can get you into trouble as well. - If you look at the history on New Zealand Wide Pro Wrestling you'll see that this one doesn't listen and has his own take on sources. Your edits on New Zealand English
Hey, I've noticed you've reverted one of my edits. What you've done has enforced an edit that was against the previous consensus that had been in place since May of 2021 and was only changed by an unsourced edit by the Christopher1968 on the 30/11/2021. This is irking because along with Roger 8 Roger you have come to a page you've previously had no edit history on and enforced the unsourced changes. Apologies for my slowness
Hi WCM. I just wanted to drop you a message to apologise for the time it's taking me to get round to working with you on adjustments to the British Empire article. Restoring it to FA is still one of my priorities, and I was genuine when I said that I did not intend to intervene in the discussion to see the article de-listed, and then disappear off without investing time to improve it. I did read around the topic quite extensively at the time, and I've purchased a couple of books to assist in my research. However, I'm still struggling along IRL with my university degree, which is not easy as I have ADHD. Because of this, I have a tendency to over optimistically/unrealistically estimate how long it will take me to achieve things. As I mentioned previously, I have ambitious plans for new thematic sections for the article (which of course, I will bring to the talk page for feedback and discussion). This is a large task and I won't be able to start on it until my timetable clears, which, depending on my workload, may not be until the end of the academic year. I wanted to be transparent with you about my intentions, and reiterate that I'm committed to turning my previous critiques of the page into actionable proposals for discussion. Falklands War again
Thanks for your recent help with this article. The reason I was editing the article was a request at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history/Archive_165#Falklands_War, asking for the "citation needed" tags to be sorted out before the 40th anniversary on 2 April. I'm afraid I ended up creating a few more and now probably won't have time to finish before the deadline. The main issues are around the final battles around Stanley (Tumbledown etc) where I am having trouble matching text with the limited sources I have available.
