Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, SocialmediaCVT. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Chagrin Valley Times, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. QuiteUnusual (talk) 14:19, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have been asked to create this page but that is my sole association. Will you please unblock the account so I can continue? I just added several pieces of information that took me two hours to compile and I do not want to lose my work.

December 2021[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website - I have blocked this account. Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a change of username of your current account here. The new username must represent only yourself as an individual and comply with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

Thank you. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:45, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

rules not broken

Decline reason:

WP:USERNAME was broken, as explained below. Yamla (talk) 17:43, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hello, I added information that is valuable and unbiased to the piece. Please unblock me from editing, as it was blocked by a user for no reason. Thank you.

"rules not broken" is not a reason, especially when you have broken the rules. As is written above, "Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website". Your account name clearly links you to CVT. QuiteUnusual (talk) 17:24, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, I was just asked to do this on their behalf. I am willing to change the username but I just put in two hours worth of citation work that I now can't save so please help me resolve this as the "change username" link you gave was not helpful.

That is not the point. The point is that your account name is promotional and implies it is being operated on behalf of CVT. Whether you are doing so or not is irrelevant. You are not allowed a username that is promotional or implies it is operated by more than one person - and this one does. Secondly, you have not made the proper disclosure on your userpage that you are being paid for your work - without this, your edits will always be declined. Follow the instructions above to request a new account name if you want to be unblocked. QuiteUnusual (talk) 17:31, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I have requested a change to the username.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Requested username:

Request reason:

remove promotional implications from username and remove conflict of interest implications from username

Accept reason:

I have renamed your account and will remove the block. You must make the required declarations on your user page before doing anything else; if you are compensated by the CVT in any manner for them asking you to do this work, you are considered a paid editor. You should also review conflict of interest. 331dot (talk) 10:04, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Walm14, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Mkwal914 (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. bonadea contributions talk 16:25, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

bonadea Hello, you can see on my talk page that another editor instructed me to create a new account as the other one was "too associated" with the name of the page. I am doing this as a reader and fan of the publication. I know a few employees and asked them if they would be okay with me submitting something, as it is a well-known business. They created an email for their social media/internet presence and asked me to enroll under that. I am not being compensated for it. I would appreciate if editors did not give conflicting advice and if you can help me resolve this issue. Thanks. Also, I'm confused as to why so many of the awards were removed. Each is different and shows significant achievement by the establishment which is crucial to being eligible for a Wikipedia page. Any help you can provide would be great. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mkwal914 (talkcontribs) 18:31, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mkwal914: Ah, I see – simple misunderstanding. The template message that was posted on this user talk page when your original username, SocialmediaCVT, was blocked said that you could either create a new account or request an unblock with a new username. It looks like you did both of those – you requested and was granted an unblock on this account, and you also created a new account. That's no big deal, it just created a bit of confusion. Now all you need to do is pick one of the accounts to use going forward, and declare your conflict of interest (following the instructions in the section "Managing a conflict of interest" above) on the user page of that account. Important: Make sure that nobody except yourself has access to the login information or the email address associated with your account. You have also created a couple of different drafts about the same topic; again, pick one of them to edit, and submit for review when you believe that it meets the relevant requirements. Regards, --bonadea contributions talk 18:58, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

bonadea Thank you! What would you recommend I say for conflict of interest? Just that I'm a reader/fan? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mkwal914 (talkcontribs) 19:03, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet investigation[edit]

An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Walm14, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Blocked for sockpuppetry[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abusing multiple accounts per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Walm14. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  -- TNT (talk • she/her) 13:01, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
