Hello! Nina Burleigh page is "semi-protected". This means that "new" editors can't edit it. If I'm not mistaken, you will no longer be considered a "new" editor once you make 10 edits, and your account is 4 days old. (I guess more than 99% of Wikipedia articles are open to all editors, but occasionally there are persistent problems with some articles that require full or partial protection.) So, you might consider editing other articles of interest for a while, until your restriction is lifted. Hope this helps - feel free to ask if you need more assistance. If you don't want to wait until you're auto-confirmed (at that point you'll be able to edit the Burleigh article directly), you can use the {{Edit semi-protected}} template on the Burleigh talk page to request that another editor change the article. However, generally, such a request is geared to something relatively narrow and specific, so your changes are broader, it probably won't be useful.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:39, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

A good point regarding the lock icon - I too expected to find it, and was confused about the fact that it was missing. Only when I click on "Edit", I can see the following message:

This message actually is helpful, but ironically you can't see it because I guess the "Edit" link is not available to you in the first place. Looks like something is not right, so I'll inquire about this case and get back to you. In the meantime, your options are to wait until you're auto-confirmed (almost there now), or to make a request by using template as suggested above. GregorB (talk) 13:06, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Nothing in particular: it appears the only problem was that the article was not properly tagged. Tagging is done manually, it is not automatic. Obviously, this may be confusing to new editors (and even long-time editors too, I might add). Wikimedia people who are tasked with the user experience are aware of this and other issues, and workflow for entering Wikipedia is something they are "paying a lot of attention to right now".

Protection templating now can be done manually or it will be done by a bot (automatic). See User:lowercase sigmabot. Also, note the bot was in existence in May 2011. Precisely what criteria the bot uses as to what template to use I don't know. Also, I've seen sometimes that after the bot templates the protected article, the template is manually adjusted by an editor. In addition, depending on the situation, there's nothing to prevent a user from removing a template. A bot also removes the template when the protection expires. In Burleigh's case, the template was added manually, so it's hard to know if the bot would have added it had not someone else beat it to it.
