Non-free images[edit]

Hello, I note you have added non-free images to a number of Sri Lankan election related articles. The use of non-free images is severely restricted and so I have removed them.--obi2canibetalk contr 12:55, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As a new editor[edit]

As a new editor I urge you to read the Five pillars of Wikipedia and its Policies and guidelines. It is easy to create a new user and and start editing and think you are helping build wikipedia, but in fact many new editors just end up making disruptive edits and degrading the quality of many articles. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and therefore has very high standards to quality and information. There are many areas to wikipedia with many guidelines that help us edit articles in a consistent and proficient way, as a new editor no one expects you to know these right away but it does not help if you are not on the same page as the other full time editors as wikipedia is also a mass collaboration effort. Hence the independent removal of information, which most of your 280 edits are, go against the collaboration effort and, the effort to build wikipedia. If you don't understand something please ask about it, if you need help please ask for it, if you cant agree on something please discuss it! But if you would be so good please do not edit war. Have respect for the more experienced editors as we are all working on the same thing.--Blackknight12 (talk) 03:00, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for December 24[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kandy Electoral District (1947–1989), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Independent. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Use the correct parameter[edit]

When you are editing the infobox the correct parameter for the name of the office is office. Order is the number in which the person has held that office. eg. Maithripala Sirisenais the 7th President of Sri Lanka.

  • 7th = Order
  • President of Sri Lanka = Office

You have changed the infoboxes of many articles, I ask you kindly to repair all those you have changed and should you continue please do it the right way. Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:53, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Right right, I usually put the office that the person has held recently on the top. It was mostly done that way, some even had a mixture between order and office, but definitely it's not something I started! Adhisha4 (talk) 08:02, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PM[edit]

The prime minister is NOT the head of the cabinet, the president is - article 43 (2) of the constitution says "The President...shall be the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers". Information icon Hello, I'm PrinceSulaiman. I noticed that you recently removed some content from United National Party without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. You have removed the bold characters that were highlighted in the name of Maithripala Sirisena, Who was elected by the UNP. Prince Sulaiman Talk to me 10:34, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have improved the article hopefully its a better now Adhisha4 (talk) 10:54, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Adhisha4: Please don't change the table, the head of government is important because the Presidential Election is first election before parliament election where the head government usually wins the parliament majority each time they win the Presidential Election. --Prince Sulaiman Talk to me 11:34, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@PrinceSulaiman: Yes it is true that it is an important post, even still there's an error Jayawarana was not president at 89 election, and if you look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_Party_(UK)#Electoral_performance or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Democratic_Party_of_Germany#Election_results it shows how the party preform in the election rather than who was head of government Adhisha4 (talk) 11:44, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Adhisha4: I know that Conservative Party have the similar table you created at United National Party, But there is major different in the parliamentary system which in Sri Lanka doesn't use the Westminister-style Parliamentary system, So, We have two elections in a year that is Presidential Election and Parliamentary election (after end of term for head of Government), While in Germany and UK they have different system where they have only one election (excludes local/provincial government election) within year after term expiry.--Prince Sulaiman Talk to me 11:54, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sadly we don't have a Westminister system, but we have a Semi-presidential system like France which has https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Party_(France)#Popular_support_and_electoral_record, and this is nothing to do with the head of government, its about the party preformence Adhisha4 (talk) 12:05, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Again French system is still different from Sri Lanka, They've got two rounds of the (Presidential Election) election in the same year. Just leave the table on United National Party as it. People who visit that article can recognise who won the most seats in Parliament there is background colour which is appeared with party's colour. If you see in 2001 election the background showed green that means UNP have won the Parliament election while the background of Kumaratunga remains blue who is the head of government that was defeated (despite her winning Presidential Election in 1999) in parliamentary election. --Prince Sulaiman Talk to me 12:15, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That is the way the members are elected, in a two round system instead of which we use Proportional representation, the table should say how the party preformed in the election not whose head of government (like I did with the SLFP page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka_Freedom_Party#Electoral_History). Regarding Presidential election happening before parliamentary ones, it doesn't necessarily have to happen in that way and head of governments before 1978 was the Prime minister not the President like now, the President back then was a ceremonial figurehead like in Present day Germany (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany#Politics) or Singapore. Regarding Maithripala Sirisena, he was not elected by the UNP, he was elected by people of the country. He was an independent common candidate who contested the election form the New Democratic front and supported by many parties including the UNP, and is currently the chairman of the SLFP. Not trying to offend you hear but you need to get the accurate information about these thing and from reliable sources, some of the information circulated within Sri Lanka is not quite accurate and Sri Lankans tend to get the wrong idea about lots of things Adhisha4 (talk) 08:33, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good, But the one you did at Sri Lanka Freedom Party is too mainstream, That's the reason i decided to on different way of styling the table at United National Party, Anyway it looks good on both :), I don't want any conflict of interest with you or other editors in regarding the table styling. Actually Sirisena was elected by a majority of UNP votes, If this wasn't for him, He would have been defeated by Authoritarian Rajapaksa. Thus, he has every right to keep his word (refusal on PM post for MR) that's why he is battling with Rajapaksa-loyalist within the party. He already sacked two powerful loyalists (General Secretaries Susil and Anura) of MR in UPFA and SLFP. You should also write about this on UPFA and SLFP article(s) as a history for his actions to protect his life and party from the authoritarian rule. --Prince Sulaiman Talk to me 12:42, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves[edit]

Hi there, please don't move pages as you did at Kumar Sangakkara unless it's a clear cut case. As evidences suggest, both names, Kumar Sangakkara and Kumara Chokshanada Sangakkara can be used to refer to the subject. We usually use common names as the title, however, only if it's precise. A page move would be controversial under prevailing situation. So as a precaution, please discuss on the talk page before performing a page move. Reading[edit]

Some light reading for you:

  • Article 48 (1): " The Cabinet of Ministers functioning immediately prior to the dissolution of Parliament shall notwithstanding such dissolution continue to function and shall cease to function upon the conclusion of the General Election..."
  • Article 66: " The seat of a Member shall become vacant...upon the dissolution of Parliament..."

--obi2canibetalk contr 14:13, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok agreed, but this only applies to Elections after the 1978 Constitution, for elections before that it would be election dates. And this only applies to the end date there is no mention about the date office begins, and end dates can be found here: http://www.parliament.lk/en/duration-of-parliament LionsRule125 (talk) 10:12, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How do you know that it would be election dates before 1978? Do you have evidence? Do you have WP:RS? Or are you making assumptions again, like you did before and are now correcting?
Why have you used this link to justify the election date as the date office begins? It also gives the date of the first meeting - why not this date? Are you making more assumtions? Do you understand WP:V?--obi2canibetalk contr 13:51, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Office infobox[edit]

Please stop adding the Prime Minister and leader of the party to the infoboxes of Sri Lankan Politicians. The Prime Minister is just a nominal position and is neither head of government or state. Leaders of parties are relatively insignificant posts compared to cabinet and diplomatic positions. The infoboxes are bloated enough, adding unnecessary information further degrades the article. And please start a discussion instead of removing sourced content.--Blackknight12 (talk) 08:21, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok ill agree with you regarding the issue of adding Prime Minister to every every office. But it would be good to add them to Parliamentary posts such as Leader of opposition and leader of house etc. Regarding the leader of the party ill have to strongly disagree with you. If you go and have a look at countries like United Kingdom or Australia, the leader of the party is mentioned (eg. David Cameron, Malcolm Turnbull). Please don't tell me that United States don't have it because the President is not quite the leader of the party. LionsRule125 (talk) 10:22, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to have the perception that Sri Lanka is a colony of some other country, or you just don't understand the Sri Lankan political system. You can't compare the political systems of Sri Lanka with countries like United Kingdom, Australia or the United States. Just because they have somethings in common does not qualify the need for the Sri Lankan articles to to be the same. You are comparing two extremely different countries, cultures, political systems and politics. Sri Lanka's membership in the commonwealth does not legitimise this. I am saying this towards all your edits within the scope of Sri Lankan politics, as it is fairly evident you have not been working well with other editors during your time here.
For the issue concerning the leader of the party in infoboxes, normally I have no problem in its inclusion, however for someone like Maithripala Sirisena, who has held many high positions, higher than that of party leader, its inclusion is negligible when his inbox is overflowing and bloated with positions. We have to prioritise, International/Diplomatic offices, National offices, Provincial offices etc.--Blackknight12 (talk) 12:49, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The leadership of a specific political party is actually much more important than a ministerial or a diplomatic office, if you go to a wikipedia pages of partly leaders of many countries they have included the party leader in it and it makes sense, especially as a reader you would want to know whether or not he holds such positions. On the case of of having too many boxes if you look at Winston Churchill (ignoring the fact he's from Britain) he has held many ministerial and diplomatic positions, yet his position as leader of the party is just after prime minister. In regards to your accusation of me thinking our country is a colony of some country, so i do not think that at all, but!! our political culture is developed much from the British political system and we have lots of common trends as other commonwealth nations in that regard I prefer to compare wikipedia political articles from those countries, which are also well formed rather than referring to American or other European styles when it comes to wikipedia articles LionsRule125 (talk) 08:31, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can you spot what you're doing wrong?--obi2canibetalk contr 14:35, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

You have been warned before about your obsessive behaviour in relation to infoboxes. Just because a field exists does not mean it has to be used. The President and Prime Minister fields should generally only be used when they appoint the subject. Even then, there is no requirement to use them. If you look at the ambassador example on Template:Infobox officeholder/example you will see that the President field has not been used even though American ambassadors are appointed by the American president.

Leader of the Opposition is parliamentary position and the President and Prime Minister have no role in their appointment. You have used Jeremy Corbyn to justify your stance, WP:Other stuff exists argument, but there are many other Leader of the Opposition articles that don't include these fields. For example, look at Sri Lanka's nearest neighbours: Sushma Swaraj (India), Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah (Pakistan) and Rowshan Ershad (Bangladesh).

An infobox should not be a substitute for content in the body of the article. You have edited dozens of articles where you have bloated their infoboxes but added no content in the body of the article. The result is a mess. Worse, you have not provided references for the contents of the bloated infoboxes. Infoboxes are not exempt from WP:V, as WP:INFOBOXREF makes it clear.

It is a shame that I and other editors are having to waste so much of our time making you follow Wikipedia policies, guidelines and etiquette.--obi2canibetalk contr 11:01, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dates[edit]

Why are you removing the exact dates? Please restore all those you have removed. Just a year is not sufficient or specific enough for an encyclopaedic article.

Well, I did initially have the exact dates. But then user obi2canibe pointed out there is no evidence for those days. I just want to keep things consistent LionsRule125 (talk) 08:46, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Provide evidence if you need to, but don't erode the quality of what is supposed to be an encyclopedic article with half assed editing and poor judgement. You have the option to ask for second opinions or advice, that is why WikiProjects exists.
Ok, I will consult next time. But I need to find a solution for this. I want to see consistency in all articles I generally would have put date of the election but someone seem to be unhappy with fact because in the constitution it says the membership expires when the parliament is dissolved LionsRule125 (talk) 09:16, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
