re: List of University of Florida honorary degree recipients[edit]

Oops. There was no reason for my unintended deletion of the three new honorary degree recipients. I reverted the nomenclature changes, and did not realize that you had added the new recipients to the bottom of a very long page. Please use the diff comparison function and cut and paste the new recipients into the current version of the article, so you don't have to re-type your work. Please accept my apologies–as one of the Gator guardians of UF wiki style and formatting, I too hastily reverted your work in its entirety. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:31, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ufgatorman, how would you like to cooperate on reworking this mess into a presentable list? IMHO, it has the potential to become a Wikipedia:Featured list with some work. Each honoree will need two or three of "gee whiz" facts and a footnote citation; the ones with live wiki links should be easy. There is plenty of good material, over a century of honorary degree recipients who read like a "who's who" of Florida, Southern and national educational and political leaders, but the editors who started the article cut and pasted most of the material from a shaky portion of the UF website, and then inserted all sorts of non-standard abbreviations and hyberbolic accolades for the honorees. (e.g. Robert Frost was cited as the greatest poet of all-time. Sure, Frost was good, but not that good.) I've wanted to re-work this list from start to finish, but my available Wikipedia free time has been largely devoted to rewriting the articles about the University of Florida presidents and sports coaches. Working together systematically, we might be able to revamp the UF honorary degrees list in two or three weeks, and put it into a condition where it's not an embarrassment to UF grads who stumble across it. Let me know if you're interested. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:51, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
