I'm not going to revert your edits right now, but the JPEG file format is inherently unsuited to the task of representing a tricolor flag (composed of abstract geometric rectangles). No matter how big you make the JPEG in pixel size or so-called "image quality" setting[sic], there are bound to be undesirable artifacts in its rendering as a thumbnail. The colors of a JPEG are also probably a lot more convoluted and less straightforward than you've been assuming, considering that colors are stored in the file in "YCbCr" format, and only converted to RGB at the last minute by your computer.
