This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Devonshire House Preparatory School, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.devonshirehouseschool.co.uk. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Re Devonshire House Preparatory School article[edit]

Thank you for your note. I think the first point to make is that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia rather than a directory, so the single most important criterion for inclusion of a subject is its notability. According to our editorial policies, this is established by "significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject". For schools (other than the few genuinely historically significant institutions), this usually means things like write-ups in the Good Schools Guide and/or newspapers. The school's own website/prospectus can be useful for verifying information, but as a self-published source does not meet our sourcing requirements as the basis for the article.

A secondary issue is that you appear to be connected with the subject of the article (apologies if I'm wrong, but reading between the lines that's the impression I get). We generally discourage editors from writing about subjects with which they are intimately involved (see WP:COI and WP:SPA for more information).

Some useful links and advice for writing school articles can be found at WikiProject Schools and WP:WPSCH/AG, and the common reasons why school articles are deleted can be found at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Common_outcomes#Education. My feeling is that Devonshire House Preparatory School will probably not survive on Wikipedia, largely because the school is too new to have established any notability and therefore received the type of coverage that could be used to write an encyclopedic article. To put things in context, see City of London School for the type of article we regard as suitable. I hope this helps, and if the article is ultimately deleted please don't be discouraged. Most of us have lost an article at one time or another, but should you decide to stay with us your contributions in other areas would be more than welcome. I have nominated Devonshire House Preparatory School, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Devonshire House Preparatory School. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Many thanks for all your help with the Devonshire House School Article, I think thatthe AFD debate has made the article much much better and has been a very helpful process. Hopefully the artile looks more credible now, but even if it does not survive I have still learnt a lot about wikipedia and writing articles.UnionSquare 09:53, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
