Backlog Elimination Drive Has Begun

Hello, I just wanted to take a moment and announce that the July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive has started, and will run for a month. Thanks for signing up. There's a special prize for most edits on the first day, in case you've got high ambitions. Enjoy! ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 04:15, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

AFC stats

The bot hasn't updated them since 2 days ago. Are you aware of this, or is it a malfunction? Regards, sonia♫♪ 07:48, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

I haven't logged into the Toolserver for a while, so all of my bots that run continuously (that one, the copyvio one, and the IRC bot) were down. Thanks for telling me. — The Earwig (talk) 14:50, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

AfC

Hi, I'm starting to work with AfC, and you're listed as a user that can help out new members. I only (for now) wanted to ask a question: What should be done with articles in userspace (e.g. User:Example/Example article) that have the {{AFC submission}} template on them? Should they be moved to the correct spot (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Example article), or have the template removed, or have an {{AFC comment}} added, or what? –dffgd 20:27, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

User:DeltaQuad/tpstalk Thank you for your interest in AfC. Articles in the userspace should be moved to the Wikipedia Talk namespace as you outlined above. -- /DeltaQuad|Notify Me\ 23:47, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
It seems my talk page stalker got here before I did. Yes, as DeltaQuad says, we usually deal with that by moving the submission to the correct spot, although I'm sure there may be a few exceptions to that rule. Anyway, thanks for getting involved in the project! — The Earwig (talk) 23:59, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you. –dffgd 04:30, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

What?

Why did you just delete Diego's Hair Salon, an article currently appearing on the Main Page via DYK? There's a red link on the Main Page. APK whisper in my ear 15:45, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

The page had some old revisions from a sandbox of yours that were unrelated to the article, which I moved to User:AgnosticPreachersKid/Artspace in case you want to do anything with them. This requires deleting the page, undeleting part of it, moving it to your userspace, then undeleting the rest of the page. Sorry for any problems I caused. — The Earwig (talk) 15:51, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Ah, ok. I panicked when the red link showed up on my watchlist and Main Page. I don't understand what you mean by old revisions, but that's fine, I'm clueless when it comes to technical issues. APK whisper in my ear 15:57, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Right, I understand. Actually, I didn't realize it was on the main page... if I did, I probably would have waited until it was taken off. I did it following a specific request, and they didn't tell me I was dealing with a DYK. Whatever. — The Earwig (talk) 16:00, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

SagaCookBot

Hello,

I published example article of SagaCookBot more than week ago and still no reaction. Instead you denied the bot because of too much time before you get the example article. Maybe you unable to find it. Since bot is denied I published it at new section to bot BRFA as described in comments on the bot request page. Article is available here for a long time please review it and if it is acceptable by wikipedia please approve the bot. If not please let me know what should be updated. Do not be silent. It is really frustrating for not receiving any reaction for half a month. Also I still do not see any the reason of denying the bot. The article was provided as was promised. Hope we will fix this soon.

Best Regards —Preceding unsigned comment added by SagaUser (talkcontribs) 08:41, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

The article simply cannot work in its current form. No sources were provided (see Reliable sources and Verifiability); all articles need reliable, third-party references from things such as newspapers or independent websites, which has not been provided. I'm not sure if you can prove that SAGA is notable either. For this reason, I would not like to have a bot going around and putting this content on-wiki, especially since it is not formatted properly and would probably be deleted outright. I see no reason why (upon adding sources and fixing up the article) you cannot simply save it here – a bot seems completely unnecessary. How often will the page be changed? How can we prove who wrote what? What happens if someone on-wiki changes the page and the bot saves an old version from your website? You must answer these questions. Thank you. — The Earwig (talk) 21:29, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Thanks for response. We will update the article due to your comments. I guess our writer hasn't put sources here since she simply didn't know that she should. Regarding your question we will remove update functionality for our bot to ensure that content updated by other users will not be overwritten. About "who wrote what" there are a number of persons in different countries who will be responsible for SAGA site content fill in as well as creation of articles. The bot is needed to avoid double work of content managers. We have a meeting with content managers next week and will discuss content of the article and how it can be improved. I will get back to you as I get update on it. Best regards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.24.187.150 (talk) 11:26, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Help with a BRfA?

Since you're a member of WP:COPYCLEAN I figured I'd ask you about the bot I'm developing. I've filed Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/VWBot and Kingpin13 has been working on it with me but he's apparently going to be MIA for a while. Is there any chance you could step in to coordinate the trials and whatnot? VernoWhitney (talk) 19:54, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Certainly. I've been watching that BRFA; give me some time (can't do it right this moment, sorry), but I'll take a look at it tomorrow morning, which is about twelve hours from now. — The Earwig (talk) 03:08, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Great, thanks! VernoWhitney (talk) 03:37, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
My latest trial has been done for a while now, but I'm heading out on vacation in a couple of days, so I guess we'll just resume after I get back? VernoWhitney (talk) 15:49, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
That sounds fine; I'll take a look at the results soon. How long will you be gone? — The Earwig (talk) 17:32, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.

EarwigBot copyvio detector

Is it possible to run your bot's copyvio dectector task on the English Wikinews? It's been proposed that a bot to search for copyvios would make reviewing articles there a bit easier. I don't know how the code is written though; if not, I'll ask Coren about his bot. fetch·comms 17:39, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess it's possible... but I'm not exactly "active" there or anything. Would they be okay with a bot op (doing something quite intrusive, I might add) that has no experience with how the site works? And also, I do remember your request to work on a bot task to solve the John Bot II problem; I'm working on that. Thanks. — The Earwig (talk) 20:33, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Not always producing AfC reports

Ive noticed this twice now. The bot is tagging the AFC with a copyright hold tag which says to view the report click here etc. However there is no report or the specific artice on the User:EarwigBot/AfC copyvios page.

i.e. Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Darryl_Stonum was tagged but no report - Happysailor (Talk) 09:46, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I know. The bot is not perfect, and makes many mistakes that it shouldn't. I'm going to rewrite the bot's code sometime this week, hopefully, which should resolve any outstanding problems (and integrate the bot better with the project). — The Earwig (talk) 04:06, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

The Guild of Copy-Editors – September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invite you to participate in the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 September at 23:59 (UTC). The goals for this drive are to eliminate 2008 from the queue and to reduce the backlog to fewer than 5,000 articles.

Sign-up has already begun at the September drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GoCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

User:CorenSearchBot/manual is a bit buggy but workable. However, is there a way you can modify your cv detector to accept multiple pages at once, or to have your bot check like CSBot's manual page? This is for a massive 20,000+ article CCI. fetch·comms 22:31, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Yarr. — Capt'n Earwig (arr! • talk) 00:44, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi,

I just created a page for the Georgetown University Lecture Fund. However, the earwig bot said that the following is a copyright infringement:

"The Georgetown University Lecture Fund exists to provide a forum for the free exchange of speech and expression concerning all issues and/or concerns. We are a non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting"

I don't think this is a copyright violation, as it is the motto of the organization, which should definitely be included in its wiki page, and I put it in quotes and italics, and indicated that it is the motto. Please let me know why this is (potentially) an issue, and if so, how it can be fixed.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mavrick422 (talkcontribs) 05:32, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

The bot's message isn't up there anymore (on hold for a different reason), but based on what you said, I'll have to agree with you. If the only violation was in the motto quote, it's a false-positive. — The Earwig (talk) 00:10, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Adopt-a-user reminder

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

  • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
  • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
  • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

Feedback - large increase in requests

The graph says it all, really; massive increase since we cleared the backlog and introduced a bit better system. As I've said before, it is a 'victim of its own success', I think. Currently, it is pretty backlogged.

Quite a few get missed, as you can see if you flick through the archives - but I don't know what we can do about that, really, other than hope more people give feedback.

The long-term solution would be to keep these editors; so many come to just create one article, and are never heard of again; if just a few of those stayed, and started giving feedback, then we'd have a more workable system.

I suggest discussion in this WT:FEED section. Cheers!

(I've send this message out to a small number of people that I think/hope will be interested; people who have given feedback, etc. if wrong, apologies, let me know.)

Earwig article formatting

Hi. Actually, it wasn't as time-consuming as it might appear. The formatting issues were fairly consistent, and thus the fixes were pretty rapid. Most of it is stuff covered under the Wikiproject: Arthropods general directives, or higher up in the hierarchy, and only a few things were not really "automatic" fixes, like word choice ("inhabitants" versus "members"), or semi-redundant clauses (e.g., having both "earwig" and "Dermaptera" present and linked in the same sentence, when they both take you to the same article). The only significant alterations were where there were two articles for overlapping taxonomic ranks (e.g., only one subfamily in a family, only one genus in a subfamily, or only one family in a suborder); those sorts of things really should be single articles with appropriate redirects. I don't make a habit of undoing others' work, but those situations are fairly cut-and-dry. Peace, Dyanega (talk) 00:07, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Double Ten Day is, really, unrelated—but we don't appear to have a cool pic for this one

I suppose I should've timed this message at 10:10:10 too, but frankly, I can't be arsed. You know how it is.

Did you know... that tenten in Japaense writing are a little wiggly thing, a bit like a quotation-mark, which makes e.g. "ka" (か) into "ga" (が) or "fu" (ふ) into "bu" (ぶ) ?

So, take time out to have a bit of a giggle.

All the best, and 10-10 'till we do it again.  Chzz  ►  08:49, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

An update from adopt a user

Hi there The Earwig! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

Your input is requested

I have started an RfC on inappropriate userboxes, i.e. those that don't follow the introductory paragraph at WP:UBX:

"A userbox (commonly abbreviated as UBX) is a small colored box ... designed to appear only on a Wikipedian's user page as a communicative notice about the user, in order to directly (or even indirectly) help Wikipedians collaborate more effectively on articles."

How does a userbox about a user's own preferences in regards to what topics on Wikipedia they hate and what type of sexually explicit material they like and actively view help Wikipedians collaborate with one another? Which is the question I am raising.

This introductory paragraph over at WP:UBX contradicts WP:NOTCENSORED so I'd like you to weigh in at WT:UBX, it'll only take 5 minutes of your time. I've sent this message because the topic has not had much community input

Copyright violation

Earwig, The text in question concerning your possible copyright violation flag in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/SAGE_Electrochromics was taken directly from a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Energy. The several articles you cited containing the same text were simply republishing the same official statement from the DOE press release. How's your Online Ambassador experience going so far?

Hi The Earwig/Archive 5,

We're starting to get into the busy part of the semester for Online Ambassadors, and we want to check in and see how you're doing, what your opinions about where we are now, and any feedback you may have.

Please answer these questions either on my talk page or send them to me by email.

1. How many mentees are you currently working with?

2. Have you reached out to students who don't have mentors yet? If not, would you be willing to?

3. What do you think of the content of messages on the Google Group?

4. What do you think of the volume of messages on the Google Group?

5. Do you participate on the Google Group much? If not, what would make you participate more?

6. Are there any problems you've experienced so far?

7. Is there anything else Sage or the rest of the Public Policy Initiative team could do to make your experience as an Online Ambassador better?

8. Are you okay sharing your username with your answers to our Public Policy Initiative team, or would you prefer to remain anonymous?

Thanks for your feedback! --Ldavis (Public Policy) (talk) 19:26, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Algae talk page tagging

Can you start tagging algae article talk pages with WikiProject Algae templates? There are so many problems with some of the groups, that the only way to do it would be one group at a time? Can we arrange something like this? Thanks. --KMLP (talk) 06:34, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I can tag a list of articles (a category, a text list, whatever you want), but the problem right now is that I'm a little confused about exactly which articles you need to be tagged. The previous discussion about the tagging happened a long time ago, so I'm not sure if everything at Wikipedia:WikiProject Algae/Taxon notes is up to date. — The Earwig (talk) 18:36, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, which articles to tag is confusing, due to the mixed taxonomies on wikipedia, particularly of say Chromalveolate. Also, the taxon notes are not necessarily helpful, because of the mixed taxonomies, which places higher taxa in different levels in different taxonomies, so importance cannot be initially assigned for tagging. I'd have to get more input.
There are some safe groups that can be tagged with the project banner, though, such as all articles in the category:Red Algae. The Red Algae articles cannot inherit importance from any other project tags on the talk page, but they can inherit class. Charophyte green algae, except for its main article, will be able to initially inherit importance from wikiproject plant articles, though; but the articles need subcategorized before tagging, because Chlorophyte green algae cannot inherit importance from plants.
I'm working on creating a few subcategories of the major groups, (Radiolarians, Diatoms, Dynoflagellates) then getting the subcats on the pages, then these subcats can also be tagged.
If you're willing can you start with Category:Red Algae, and I'll post a conversation on the WP:Algae talk page and notices on ToL and Plants to get input on the Chromalveolate and Green Algae paraphyletic issues? Then we'll just ask you one or two sorted categories at a time? --KMLP (talk) 19:27, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. I'll start the bot on Category:Red algae for now, will recurse through sub-cats as well. — The Earwig (talk) 19:37, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. It's nice to see articles I'm watching, but haven't got around to tagging, show up on my watch list. --KMLP (talk) 19:46, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
And, done with that category. Tagged 47 articles. Let me know when we have another category to go through. — The Earwig (talk) 19:54, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, will do. Here's a link to the conversation, but we will just post requests here on your user page. --KMLP (talk) 20:01, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Diatoms are a category Category:Diatoms, and everything in this category can safely be given the project tag, again inheriting the class. --KMLP (talk) 02:32, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Doing that now. — The Earwig (talk) 20:28, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Also, Category:Ulvophyceae, Category:Cryptomonads, and Category:Haptophytes are good for tagging. Some of the parent categories are too mixed up to approach, yet.
Doing these now. — The Earwig (talk) 15:33, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
...and done with all cats. — The Earwig (talk) 15:49, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, it was nice to see my watchlist explode with bot edits of work that I don't have to do. --Kleopatra (talk) 19:05, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

EarwigBot, question about expanding tasks

Hiya. As you're probably aware, there has been a significant amount of attention paid to copyvio and plagiarism over the past few days. Would it be possible to add to EarwigBot's tasks checking of articles at WP:FAC, same as it does for AFC? → ROUX  13:39, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure how I could make that work. How would it report results? I'm worried that because FAs recieve more public exposure than articles just written at AfC (i.e., they are more likely to be copied by someone else), a false positive is more likely. tools:~earwig/cgi-bin/copyvio.py can be run manually; it uses the same algorithm as EarwigBot. If we use http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grace_Sherwood&oldid=393949030 as an example revision before the article was changed to remove copyvios, then the bot reports this, which isn't exactly conclusive because it doesn't mention the USA Today article. I really need to rewrite the algorithm used by the bot, but I've been so busy with school and other things lately it hasn't been possible. — The Earwig (talk) 22:00, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Well I'd figured it could report results right to the article's FAC page. But school takes priority! I'll bug (heh) you in a couple weeks or so, if that's okay. → ROUX  22:02, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Online Ambassador selection process

Please share you views on the current version of the proposed Online Ambassador selection process, which the steering committee has recommended for adoption by the ambassadors program. Once we settle on a selection process, we can start recruiting more Online Ambassadors for next term (in which we will have more students, and the students will be more involved with mentors from early on).--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:19, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

I think we spoke about auto adding the dates to the nav page - but it doesn't seem to be happening yet; I just added November - are you able to make it auto for the future?  Chzz  ►  00:44, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm aware Chzz, sorry, but I've been far too busy recently to do much programming. — The Earwig (talk) 01:05, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Sure, no worries. I just added December - slightly early, but not sure when I'd be online, and I don't think anyone else would notice.
It'd just be nice if, one day, it could be auto. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  00:07, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Planning for next term in the Wikipedia Ambassador Program

Hi Ben. We're trying to figure out how many students we can mentor next term and how many additional Online Ambassadors will be needed. Based on the revised plan for what participating courses will be like next term, I've sketched out what will be expected of mentors. Please look that over, and then go to the online ambassadors talk page to indicate much mentoring and other ambassador activities you'd like to do next term. copyright violation warning for copying from wikipedia

your bot said that the request to add an article on superionic water violated copyright. Part of this article was copied from the article on water. That article has itself been copied to the sites it claims the new article is infringing (i.e. someone copied the water article to answer a yahoo question, now the bot says the new article copies yahoo questions). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.33.43.65 (talk) 20:44, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Shouldn't your bot clear the declined submissions? I was wondering as the page currently has a backlog tag on it, and it shouldn't if the declined submissions get removed. Please advise. Whose Your Guy (talk) 22:51, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Declined submissions are removed from the table after 48 hours, as is indicated by the heading. This is based on the category the page is in, e.g., everything in Category:AfC submissions by date/15 December 2010 and Category:AfC submissions by date/16 December 2010 is included even if the submission is declined. The reason some submissions are listed that have been declined for a long period of time is that the template is formatted incorrectly, confusing the bot (this was a boo-boo, I fixed it here by substituting the template). The backlog tag is unrelated to the bot's work; it is based solely on Category:Pending AfC submissions and not the table, so the "backlog" number is based on the large number of pending submissions and has nothing to do with the number of declined submissions remaining in the table. — The Earwig (talk) 23:05, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for taking the time to explain how the bot works. Whose Your Guy (talk) 23:22, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Algae article categories

Hi The Earwig. Can you add WikiProject Algae banners to all articles in the Category:Cyanobacteria and Category:Charophyta? For both, the class may be inherited from any other project banners. For the cyanobacteria, importance should not be inherited. For Charophyta, importance may be inherited from WikiProject Plant banners.

Thanks for the help. --Kleopatra (talk) 01:14, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Articles for Creation task

Hey,

I don't know if this is a bot problem, but EarwigBot hasn't updated Template:AFC statistics since January Second. The bot task is set to "run," so I don't know exactly what's up...

KoreAm covers

Hi. :) I'm in the process of moving them all to Commons (time consuming!) under a different name, since User:Dcoetzee, who helped me upload 2007 there, pointed out that a specific title would be helpful. I took the liberty of updating your User:The Earwig/KoreAm with one changed name, as I'm about to delete the original. I'll try to update the others once they're done. The naming scheme is almost identical, but I am inserting the word "KoreAm", e.g. "File:2008-02 Cover.jpg" will become "File:KoreAm 2008-02 Cover.jpg" on Commons. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:51, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you again, it was my first article I will learn more from person like you. English is my weakness but very soon I am going to make it my strongest point. Can you tell me how to remove that orphan template? I have added many external links but its still there. No extra topic is directly related to Sihri I can just add the topics which are related to its district and local area.

Suggestion for your bot

Hey Earwig. Hope all is going well. I was wondering if you could code one of your bots to scrape the filter log for Special:AbuseFilter/167 every so often, and tag the botched submissions. EarwigBot

Hello The Earwig,

I see that your bot for AFC has not been running since the 2nd of Janurary and was wondering if you would like me to take over the project? I have become a lot more comfortable with python, and I remember you saying you had an error. I honestly don't want to go build another one so I was wondering if you could let me know what the error was and maybe I can get a really well coded bot up again. If so, and if your not too busy, if you could ZIP or tar.gz the files for me that would help immensly in making sure they are in the right spot. -- DQ (t) (e) 18:59, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Marking articles students are working on

Howdy, Online Ambassador!

This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students and make sure these things are taken care of (especially for classes that aren't working with mentors):

  1. Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
  2. If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
  3. Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.

And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.

Thanks! --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:30, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

EarwigBot II incorrectly flagged Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Professor Farzad Sharifian. The report listed only references, which are unsufficiently creative for copyright. -- Bk314159 (Talk to me and find out what I've done) 18:47, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Bot pending approval

Can you please give a look in Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Yobot 20? I finished test edits more than 3 weeks ago. -- Magioladitis (talk) 13:08, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi I have submitted an article on Titirangi Theatre, for review. Some of the information comes from titirangitheatre.co.nz/about.htm where I happen to be the webmaster/publisher. I have added a copyright disclaimer granting 'fair use' rights on the page containing the information I have referenced, in order to remove copyright issues. Please let me know if there is a better way to deal with the issue thanks mac

ENGLISH NEW ZEALANDER

THE TEXT USED FOR THIS ARTICLE IS FROM A COPYRIGHT-FREE WEB PAGE OWNED BY A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION. I WONDER WHY WIKIPEDIA CALLS ITSELF THE BIGGEST ENCYCLOPEDIA AND IT HAS NO ARTICLE ABOUT THE BIGGEST ETHNIC GROUP IN NEW ZEALAND,ENGLISH NEW ZEALANDER. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.38.92.180 (talk) 17:02, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

RFC on the inclusion of a table comparing SI units and Binary prefixes

Notice: An RFC is being conducted here at Talk:Hard diskdrive#RFC on the use of the IEC prefixes. The debate concerns this table which includes columns comparing SI and Binary prefixes to describe storage capacity. We welcome your input

The content that is said to infringe on a copyright, is in fact owned by us, it is also cited back to our website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awilliamspepid (talkcontribs) 16:34, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

(noting that a live article, PEPID Knowledge Base, now exists)
Awilliamspepid, hello.
  • Firstly - you need to change your user name. User names shouldn't be company, group, or anything like that - so, please head over to WP:CHU/SIMPLE
You really need to do that immediately - request a change of name. Otherwise, your account may be blocked.
  • Secondly, if you want to use the material from the website "pepidknowledgebase.com", then you'd need to give explicit permission - because, on that webpage, it says "Copyright © 2011 PEPID, LLC". If you want to give permission allowing anyone (including Wikipedia) to use it, then you'd need to declare that.
To do so, please see WP:DCM#Granting us permission to copy material already online.
  • Thirdly, you really need to read WP:BFAQ.
If you need any more help, just ask. You can contact me on my own user talk page, which is User talk:Chzz.
Cheers,  Chzz  ►  22:14, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
