Ferdinand Sauerbruch — dates

Hello! When wikifying dates, it's important not to include ordinals (like "3rd", "4th", etc.), and to seaparet the linking of the day-month part from the year. It's also best to link birth and death dates using an en rule rather than a hyphen. Thus Sauerbruch's dates, for example, should read:

(3 July 1875–2 July 1951)

not:

(3rd July 1875 - 2nd July 1951)

iboga stuff

hi ringess

i'm about to revert your edits to iboga and Howard Lotsof so i figured i'd give you a heads up.

its general stub world policy to have two stub categories per article if warranted. the hallucinogen project deals with hallucinogens in a scope beyond that of what project drugs was doing, seeking to take into account spiritual, medical, botanical, ethnological and etc issues and not just chemicals. accordingly, it encompasses plants and researchers among other things. people with info to contribute about iboga or howard lotsof are probably just as likely, if not more likely, to be contributing because of their knowledge of iboga and hallucinogens rather than plants and medicine.

as for the merger, i agree that the information in howard lotsof should all be in the ibogaine article, if it isn't already; but that doesn't mean that Howard Lotsof shouldn't have his own article as a notable entity distinct from ibogaine itself. kinda like how Albert Hofmann isn't just a footnote to LSD. It should be expanded as a biographical article- he was probably born some time some place and so on and so forth. As it stands, it contributes nothing that can't be found in the ibogaine article, but that doesn't mean it should be eliminated.

Thank you for your efforts to keep nonsense, self promotion, and the like off of Wikipedia. However, I must ask you to please read Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How to list pages for deletion before making any more afd nominations. Since you've been missing step III, nobody will see your nominations unless someone else finds them on Category:Pages for deletion and list them for you (which is a very time-consuming process, even with bot assistance). Meat Coma

You decided to put the article on Meat Coma up for deletion. However, this can happen if large quantities of meat such as turkey or beef are consumed due to the presence of trytophan, which does cause sleepiness in large enough quantities. This is the reason why it used to be used in sleeping pills. I have therefore removed the deletion request. If you wish to complain to me, then please do so on my talk page.

Wonser page

How can i make this acceptable for Wikipedia more specifically? I understand that it can seem to be jibberish from a random user searching for this information. Encyclopedia's often include even the smallest details and this is what makes them such a great resource. Johann Caspar Fischer

Hello! I saw you added the 'unreferenced' tag to the article. Well, I wrote most of it and I did it the same way I wrote Johann Kaspar Kerll and Giovanni Valentini - by gathering and giving structure to material found on miscellaneous websites and by summarizing the essays found in CD booklets. I guess websites don't count (most information comes from random websites about classical music, I found no website dedicated to Fischer, Kerll or Valentini), and, well, may I cite CD booklets as references? Wouldn't it be too much like advertising (there's just two booklets used - one for Fischer, one for Kerll & Valentini. So it would be like advertising two specific CDs)? I did some research and found the sources for some of those liner notes.. but most were German books and articles from the New Grove dictionary. Apparently all those composers are so obscure noone bothers to write, let alone translate, books about them. I did what I could and added references to all three articles, complete with ISBNs (searched using Amacon.com and Amazon.de). Hi. I'm afraid you obviously still haven't looked at the edit history of the article, so you are pretty severely misunderstanding me.

I'm not claiming that it shouldn't have sources. But I didn't write the article, so I'm not sure why you are asking me for them.

The article as I started it gave (a) his name (b) his birth date (c) the fact that he was a tory MP for Ludlow for a particular year range (d) the fact that he stood down. That was it. All the interesting claims about him were added later on by other people and not by me, and also I don't know what sources the other people used.

For the claims I did add, [1] provides some of them. However, I'm not sure what good adding this source would do if the claims of his very controversial political views (which I didn't write about) remain unreferenced. Morwen - Talk 08:53, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I created it alright, it was just a useless stub when I created it. If you want to ask someone for sources, I'd ask the person who made this edit which included the rather absurd and possibly false claim that he was known as the "Butcher from Ludlow". Fair enough. Some of it seems plausible, he was a nasty chap by all accounts. But can't find anything not Wikipedia that calls him that. Sorry if I responded harshly, I have made hundreds if not thousands of stubs over the years, and they were generally sort of basic factual information of the type that we didn't place a strong emphasis on referencing back then.

As I get tired of telling people, the whole point of an encyclopaedia is to provide information in a summary form so that people don't have to go and consult obscure and scattered primary sources. Do you check the accuracy of references in the Britannica? Of course not, because you trust the Britannica as a reliable source. In any case the Britannica doesn't give sources, and neither does any other print encyclopaedia. An encyclopaedia is a source, or at least it's supposed to be. Dang... wikipedia... I think im in love... Btw having looked them over i decided you have some pretty cool fractal art. I have no clue what the difference from regular art is but it looks very pretty. I really like floating in satin, Girder box, shrine of the fishies, Loopy mirros, and Gears. Lot of it looks like tie-die shirt made by a hippy who smeared mud on them first :P the effect is quite... interesting to say the least..

The Legend of Zelda: Blade of the Ancients

Just a slightly longer explanation as to why we can't speedy hoaxes. Very often people create articles without referances, no matter how much we smack them around. They also often write in an, err, exagerated style. These can coombine to create something that looks a lot like a hoax, and can evade the research of the speedy-tagger and the speedy-deleter.

Thus it's been established (after more discussion than I really want to think about) that it's better for an actual hoax (or quasi-nonsense, in this case) to hang around for five or so days than for something real to get deleted by accident.

My personal feeling is that the 99.992% that are actually junk could be made up for my catching the .008% at WP:DRV, but that's just me.

Fair use for Images for a Particular Artist

Hello Ringess. I just did my first edit. It's for the artist Jenny Saville. I'd really like to illustrate it with a few pictures (of course) but when I was about to, Wikipedia reminded me that I didn't have copyright. I e-mailed Jenny at her gallery to get permission, but now I read that her images might be allowed under 'fair use'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Fair_use I'm confused. Do I need permission or not? And if Jenny DOES give permission, does that mean that those images are now public property. I mean, she's not likely to agree to that! Per your suggestion I have rewritten the tone in a less "fanzine" style, which admittedly is something I have to watch as a freelance writer (I had this problem come up in a couple of wrestler bios that I created). Ah, sorry about the page. FYI, I had talked to the webmaster at http://www.kinox.org/ and he (MickoZ mickoz@parodius.com) had sent an e-mail saying he's all right with me posting the article to Wikipedia. While that was cleared, I posted it to Wikipedia and started linking words in the article. While I tried finding actual dates for the events, I happened upon the exact same article in the SFGate. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/examiner/archive/1998/09/24/NEWS7742.dtl Seems he copied the article from here! My bad. I had read somewhere, that there is speedier deletion if the author of a page marks a page to be deleted. Is that possible here? How do I do that? (Wikipedia help is a labyrinth) Eptin

Neutral pov? I don't think so you delete article becuase they have advertisment yet you have many articles about other websites and you never stay on the neutral side.
