I appreciate it I'm grateful for the nice note you put on my talk and still more than a little put out by that ridiculous block. Wikipedia is not worth real life stress, and kind words defray tension. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 16:34, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Is that OK?

I archived it for ya. Is it so-so, did I do it wrong, or was it all you hoped for? You theoretically could have broken it up into several archives, but that'll do fer now. Yes, I purposely made spelling errors here. But is it OK? RSVP on this page. 2D Backfire Master tempus fugit 11:33, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Jem (entertainer)

Hello Technopat. I see that you have been repeatedly trying to get Jem (entertainer) speedily deleted, in the face of repeated blanking of the article by its author. I completely agree with you that the article deserves a speedy deletion, but there are two points about the way you have dealt with it that I thought worth a mention.

(1) The author of the article repeatedly blanked the article, and you repeatedly restored it, and placed a warning on their talk page about removing speedy deletion tags. It is true that it is normally considered unacceptable for the author of a page to remove a speedy deletion tag from it, but an exception is made in the case of completely blanking a page to which nobody else has made any significant contribution. This is taken as indicating that the author wants the page deleted, and it can then be tagged for speedy deletion with {{db-blanked}}. Very often new users who don't know how Wikipedia works see an article they have created tagged for deletion, accept that the article should be deleted, and remove the content, thinking that this is deleting it. It is much better in such a case not to bite the newcomer by giving them a warning that they have done something wrong, when they were simply trying to comply with the deletion notice. In this case it might well have also saved you the trouble of repeatedly restoring the articel and its speedy deletion tag.

(2) In this edit you told the author to add a {{hangon}} tag, rather than removing the speedy deletion tag. Unfortunaterly you did this by posting the following text:

please add:

{{hangon}}

directly below this tag

and the result of this is to display the following:

please add:

directly below this tag

This was probably not what you wanted. In order to display the actual text "{{hangon}}", rather than displaying the "hangon" template you can type {{tl|hangon}}. Even easier, however, is to use one of the ready made user warning templates, such as {{subst:uw-speedy2}}, which will automatically produce a message explaining that the thing to do is to add a hangon tag, and you don't have to bother with the formatting.

I hope this may be some help to you. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:44, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Greetings JamesBWatson – Thank you for taking the time to point that out to me. Just a quick answer in my defence re. biting, especially as I do not consider myself a biter by anyone's standards. On the one hand, while it’s true that by applying good faith to its full extent it could be considered that the editor was telling us all that s/he was trying to “comply with” the deletion notice, in a large number of the speedy delete edits I’ve been involved with, the editors have simply been trying to remove the tag and returned to posting the previous content.
On the other hand, in this case, and as you pointed out, I specifically left a message as follows: You have again removed the deletion tag from the article Jem (entertainer). Please take the time to read the tag and notice the bit that says: do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself... and which then continues to include the {{hangon}} tag but I considered it more useful for the editor to actually be able to read the content of the tag in order to get some perspective on the whole issue.--Technopat (talk) 18:32, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
I certainly agree that you do not seem to be a biter. I also agree that very often the trick "blank the page, then later restore it without the speedy deletion tag" is used. However, I still think that we should assume good faith until that happens. Certainly once the "restore without the speedy deletion tag" has taken place I post a level 2 warning message and restore the original speedy deletion tag (not the G7 one). JamesBWatson (talk) 12:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that and for acknowledging that I'm not really a biter - though I suppose I should in turn acknowledge that I have on occasion been known to take the odd snap or two. But you're right, maybe I should stick more to the evidence before me than to my usually unerring instinct. Cheers!--Technopat (talk) 14:09, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Double Check

Do you even know the whole story behind the the UDD crisis? There is no "Red Guard" and no soldier casualties, if there was it was the sympathetic soldiers killing their superiors for shooting into the crowd of red shirts under unjust order. The current prime minister under the control of the current monarch is true, he's nothing more than a puppet and to be frank he will probably be silenced when this is all over. You could either be a hardcore Monarchy sympathizer or you just like to use censored source. Go google up the images of red shirts getting their brain fluids all over the floor, and all those injured, Yes the Thai Government, aka the monarchy have many times killed protesters and god knows what they did to the body, so there is really no evidence. But this time there is. And as I've heard the current strategy is to shoot the legs of the Red shirts or even civilians to cripple and strike fear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Saralegi (talkcontribs) 23:01, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

The Silent World revert

Hi Technopat, I'm new to wikipedia so I'm not sure if this is the right place to reach you so I apologize if its not. I noticed one of my edits to the The Silent World article was reverted by you with the given reason of "unreferenced edit".

Not sure if you've seen the film but I have, and have noticed there are a lot of shockingly condemnable acts of environmental destruction taking place in this film. These seem to be quickly glossed over in the wiki article.

I see at least the part about dynamiting marine life to take a census and the massacre of a "school" of sharks is still there but I am of the opinion that the fact that 2 sperm whales are struck and that the baby is harpooned by the crew should remain in. I'm not as adamant about the grouper kicking, tortoise sitting on and sea turtle riding even though I still think it helps people who haven't seen the movie get a sense of the attitudes towards nature of the crew in the film.

Stating that there are no references doesn't seem to help me, I'm not sure how you could even reference a movie from within its own wikipedia article but I'd like to have that part put back in some way.

Can we reach a compromise on this please?

Thanks in advance for your time.

I addressed your "need citation" and changed the tone of the article. I also included more "noteworthiness". Only after making these significant changes did I remove the banner that specified what I changed (as Wikipedia said I could originally - I'm new to editing, so if I wasn't supposed to remove banners that I addressed, please let me know). I have asked for specifics related to the article's deletion and only received 1 (thank you) - which I addressed directly. I have been happy with all the discussion so far that has been constructive. What I don't understand is the continual vagueness of the discussion. If you have a specific issue with a citation or statement, please list it in a way that can be addressed. Again, how can we have a page on Yuuzhan Vong etc but not on someone who actually has notability? How about Fred Figglehorn? After addressing the issues, I was disappointed to see a deletion banner appear. I can't understand why there is so much angst about this article. It has sources which verify what is said and links that verify its noteworthiness. Thanks again for the constructive comments (I appreciate them!). —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChildrenOfLight (talkcontribs) 15:12, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Okay everybody, I deleted all references to medical certification of death and time period for death and doctors doing anything. I think it is now entirely in Ian's mind without reference to others. His story as it is doesn't need any sources other than himself (unless I've missed something) per Smith Wigglesworth "believed that God had cured him of hemorrhoids". All the other sources establish his notability and the fact that I'm not putting up my buddy or youth pastor or whatever and that this article isn't a prank. Let me know how you feel - I totally see Hekerui's point and maybe this is what you all have been saying all along. I think it reads a lot better and makes more "encyclopedic" sense. Okay, I'm compromising again :). I don't feel we need any more "secular" sources than the blurb I posted from a local "secular" paper, but just for those who want to see more...I've some "secular" blurbs about Ian - basically just telling the local community who he is and where he'll be speaking.

http://www.hawkesbaytoday.co.nz/local/news/man-who-died-to-give-talk/3656811/

http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/news/s/36122_what_happened_when_i_died_talk

http://www.westerntelegraph.co.uk/news/4212622.Death_survivor_to_give_talk_in_Manorbier/

It's just more verification that he exists. Should I add any of them? As far as further notability goes, I could add a ton of links to churches that have advertised his talks (but I feel that it is all secondary to what I have already posted). Thanks, ChildrenOfLight (talk) 22:44, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

RE: Greetings and request

Greetings. As to your question, I only just started being active on Wikipedia again, and I have indeed nominated a Doctor Who article for deletion (Adam Mitchell (Doctor Who)) which has resulted in it being merged with List of Doctor Who supporting characters. Generally, I just look for articles that interest me, and if I see an article that needs improving that I can actually help with, or one that I decide isn't notable enough, I do something about it. Generally if something isn't deleted after I nominate it, I just leave it alone, apart from in certain cases. I'm being bold, in other words. Harry Blue5 (talk) 18:30, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

The thing is, I can't see anyway of repairing the Mr. Ratburn article. I know far more notable articles that have been deleted, and frankly, I can't find any proper sources for him. He has no real-world notability whatsoever (from what I've seen), the article doesn't have any information other than in-universe stuff, which is also uncited. If you could find enough sources to warrant an article, then the article might be worth keeping, however since the all but two of the MAIN CHARACTERS of the series have been deleted, I extremely doubt that. All information is uncited, as I've already stated, meaning we can't really merge it anywhere. The only other option than to delete it would be to just get rid of the entire article and make it a redirect to List of Arthur characters or something. That's literally, in my opinion, the only other way I can think of not deleting the whole thing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Harry Blue5 (talkcontribs) 23:36, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Was there a specific reason to courtesy blank this page? There was nothing libelous in it, the subject is claimed to be an adult, and I don't see any request for blanking. The article doesn't look like it should be in the mainspace, but it doesn't look any more problematic than any of the user autobiographies that get speedily deleted every day. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:59, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi,

Just to let you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Hampstead School of English under {{db-corp}}, as it explicitly states in the text that schools are not legible for speedy under this category. I suggest PROD/AFD/Improve. Stephen! Coming... 11:39, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Olaf Sporns

hi, not sure why you removed my deletion notice. You say "Removed prod template as per publications in notable journals, etc. despite AfD in 2007". What publications in notable journals? There's no mention in the article, and a Pubmed search reveals publications in average journals, nothing spectacular (no multiple Nature or Science publications, and nothing highly cited). And the article was voted for deletion in 2007. So what's changed since then? Mnemopolus (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 19:57, 29 June 2010 (UTC).

Replying here for a change. So only those who publish in Nature and Science are good enough for Wikipedia? Wow! We have come up in the world, haven't we? This is my talk page, so sorry for the sarcasm. But here I gets to do what I likes. As for your specific point, "What publications in notable journals? There's no mention in the article," the list is right there in the article for you to check. Including one for OUP, a slightly higher than average publishing company. But go for delete at AfD, by all means. --Technopat (talk) 20:40, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Just for the record, the delete tag you slapped on the article states: "You may remove this message if you improve the article or otherwise object to deletion for any reason. However please explain why you object to the deletion, either in your edit summary or on the talk page." - which I did. --Technopat (talk) 20:44, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. I don't mind the sarcasm. "Science" and "Nature" is not a requirement, of course. But at least be able to demonstrate that the person is notable in some way. This could be through publishing a highly cited article or otherwise producing ground breaking work. I'm in science, so a I know a lot of scientists, including this one, and honestly, he's a nice guy but he's also an average run-of-the-mill scientist. If there was something special or notable in his work, I would not have put up the AfD notice, and might even have contributed to the article. You can see too that the article is mainly a statement of research interests; but isn't that what a lab page or facebook is for? Probably most people have research interests; that's great but isn't notable or ground breaking. I might repost the AfD later, but I also don't care 'that' much about it, one way or another, so if you want to remove the AfD again, that's fine. Really :) Mnemopolus (talk) 14:32, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

I put up a vandalism final warning for this one - second time they've made it in the last 10 minutes. PS: Love your stances on CSDs and the "certain type" of editor, and am glad a reasonable member is keeping his eye out to stop unjust/premature deletions. You might want to comment over at [1] (WT:CSD) - there's a debate going on about 'just CSDing' untranslated articles instead of tagging them with a WP:Translate tag and hoping someone adopts them. Zelse81 (talk) 00:44, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Greetings Zelse81 - thanks for the thumbs up! At heart I'm really a snob elitist deletionist but I've seen so many patently ridiculous AfDs that I tend to err on the keep side. Will pop over to the CSD in min. when the current spate of vandalism is over (is there a full moon on tonight?) Cheers!--Technopat (talk) 00:53, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Nah, it is however the last few days of school in much of the world, and a week after in others - so you get a mix of the bored and the exam-stressed. Zelse81 (talk) 01:01, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Your comment

I would like to know exactly why you are threatening to permanently block me from wikipedia.org with this account. Please explain your threat.Diego Saragoza 10:37, 5 July 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluehoorten (talkcontribs)

Replying here: The reasons are that none of your edits seem to have been made in good faith and when this has repeatedly been pointed out to you on your talk page, you have ignored the warnings, deleted said warnings (which you are entitled to, as it's your talk page) and carried on regardless. You have now been given a final warning. The ball's in your court.--Technopat (talk) 10:45, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Sent talkback tag to make sure the editor got the message.--Technopat (talk) 11:05, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Well in regards to the German Londono entry he was actually at my wedding in Medellin, Colombia and he is a good friend of mine. So you are completely out of line so bug off.Diego Saragoza 16:44, 5 July 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluehoorten (talkcontribs)

Replying here and pasting box. Curious how that was the only (possibly) good faith edit of the lot, and was not, in fact, included in the warnings you have been given. The final warning still stands, even though you deleted it from your talk page.--Technopat (talk) 18:20, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
I reverted an edit to the page in question last night. Soon after, the user in question visited my talk page, and said:
  • "This is original content that I posted to German Londono. Who are you? Eivind Gerber 09:17, 5 July 2010 (UTC) Are you German Londono?" (and of course, didn't sign the comment.)
I referred Bluehoorten to the Wikipedia: No Original Research and Wikipedia: Verifiability. Anyway, just thought I would note my actions here, since there seems to be an existing issue with this user. --ANowlin: talk 19:39, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Oops!

Hey there, Technopat, I'm a newbie, and I just created an article with a title in all lower case letters, and now I can't fix it. Could you help me? The article title is "the hudson utility coupe." I need to lose the "the" in the title as well. Can you fix it or show me how to do so? Could you possibly respond to me on my talk page, as I'm having a little trouble navigating my way around to helpful editors? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matengl1101 (talkcontribs) 19:58, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

You put a speedy tag on My Wings, I agreed with you and deleted it. Zaps93 (talk · contribs) has taken a personal dislike to me so I am reluctant to give them more fuel. But if you decide to take My WINGS to AfD, let me know and I will support you. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:30, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
