Disambiguation link notification for February 2[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Laurentum, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lorenz (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Regarding the article Xiandai Hanyu Cidian[edit]

Hi, SzMithrandir, I was the one who expanded the article Xiandai Hanyu Cidian, apart from the lead section. It was translated from the Chinese Wikipedia (except lead section). I own the IP addresses 124.197.120.242, 175.156.66.243 and 124.197.123.242. (Well... IP addresses change very quickly)

This was the original revision.

Nevertheless, thanks for your appreciation! Huang (talk in public in private | contribs) 13:04, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for starting the conversation at Talk:Romance_of_the_Three_Kingdoms#rating. I hope the pieces of advice and general suggestions help with researching and expanding the page. It seems that its been a long time since anyone has done serious work or research on the article; I hope that you get Be bold!!!! and do some of that work: we rely on a wide user base with a variety of interests and experiences, and sometimes those interests don't overlap with the critical important vital articles like Romance of the Three Kingdoms. However, as you probably noticed in the recent discussion, the community is really good at identifying gaps and problems in work :P Our standards for the highest quality content are rather extensive and exacting, and mostly learned experience and practice. I hope you get that opportunity, and continuing helping us improve such work. Wikipedia is always a WP:Work in progress, so I hope you get a chance to help us improve it! Happy editing, Sadads (talk) 16:17, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Its perhaps a semantic thing...[edit]

Thanks for understanding and agreeing to a downgrade. Dimethylglyoxime is an academic thing mainly, it is not useful for anything. --Smokefoot (talk) 14:29, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bold text?[edit]

Regarding your edit: what does the bold text mean? --Cic (talk) 08:27, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cic: I was aiming to highlight the "major" branches, or say, the more renowned ones -- I guess you would also agree that Philosophy of History is much richer as a field than that of Literature, and "Aristotelianism""Thomism""Kantianism" are even more than a field, almost an umbrella term for a wide range of contents. Highlighting these items may help to navigate the readers to the more "important"/"basic" articles, especially those who are not familiar with these Philosophies.     I know this sort of article picking is kinda unfair, but I believe it's really important to make the navbox a bit eye-catching (not like a neon-light though). -- SzMithrandir (talk) 14:33, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's what I thought. I removed the highlighting because it seems too subjective to me.--Cic (talk) 19:13, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2015.09.28: IP block Exempt request[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

SzMithrandir (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Caught by a web host block, see (range). It's probably because the internet provider (Coextro) for my condo unit set up their network in a certain way. I'm a 4-yr-old Wikipedian, and I've been active for 2 yrs with all good faith. I hope I can get an IP block exempt. Thank you! -- SzMithrandir (talk) 19:58, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I went ahead and unblocked the range in favor of the narrower one for now. Hopefully this resolves the issue; let us know if it doesn't work or if another one ends up hitting you down the road. :P Cheers =) --slakrtalk / 23:45, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Slakr: Peridon (talk) 16:57, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Slakr: Oh well, thought I could luckily get an exempt (user group) XD .. But it's OK, such web host block is probably quite rare for a common man to encounter. Thank you!
And I don't quite understand what you mean by "a narrower one". Ain't ...xx/22 very narrow already? If this technical question is sensitive per security then ignore me .. -- SzMithrandir (talk) 00:00, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there[edit]

Hi, SzMithrandir:

I know the following may sound a little weird but please read it through if possible...this is not a mass message...

I am Wishva de Silva and I live in Shenzhen, China. I presume you are a local or expatriate currently living in the same city (from this Template you created) -- Wikipedians are really rare here in Shenzhen according to my knowledge

For quite a while I have been looking for Wikipedians that has an interest in helping Shenzhen articles to help the current articles(Yet I there are hardly any to be found to this present day). Which, as you probably might have knew, are in a terrible shape and are nothing close in being encyclopedic. I have set up a WikiProject particularly focusing on Shenzhen but due to the lack of local Shenzhen editors I am currently in touch with, this project was still very much stagnant. Thus, as you probably might have guessed already, I really want help from people like you! So see if you can join this WikiProject, then slowly but surely we will improve the coverage of Shenzhen-related articles. Thank you!

@Woogie10w: lol please don't machine translate ... or maybe you're practising.
I can try, but I'm afraid UToronto is not the best place to read Chinese literatures, although we do have some collections. -- SzMithrandirEred Luin 17:16, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I got no hits in World Cat for author Bian xiu yue in Canada. English Wikipedia really needs an article on Chinese casualties in WW2. I found this and did a machine translation [1], maybe you could use this as a starting point. I have studied Chinese at the China Institute for three years and really need to improve my skills, sorry.--Woogie10w (talk) 13:15, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2022.05.08: IP block Exempt request[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

SzMithrandir (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Being in a country/region in the world with inconvenient Internet access, I've been using proxies to bypass the "wall". Previously this worked for me (see my contribs in 2021-2022); however, in the recent two months or so, enWP somehow elevated restrictions against proxies. So right now I'm unable to edit articles such as Lynn M. Walker (about to edit just now) and many others I went by that I cannot recall. So, could I get an IPBE, or could the block on this proxy be lifted? I'm in fact a bit confused by the instructions on WP:IPBE, so apologies ahead if I'm wrong by posting this on my Talk. Many thanks! SzMithrandirEred Luin 03:41, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

WP:IPBE granted for one year. Happy editing! You can request an extension after the year, the time limit is just a check that your edits continue to be constructive. :) Yamla (talk) 09:57, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
