Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Dear Surrealism Nut: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes. Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advise, please sign any dicussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into you signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! Thank you, -- Mik 03:07, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't spam![edit]

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Thank you for your message. I acknowlege you have some useful content in the links. However, we normally only put links in on an article by article basis, judged by editors working on each article, with regard both to article content and other links, to decide what is appropriate. If you are a new user, you may not be familiar with this, so allowance is made. However, we are looking for article content and not for links. Good material in links is best incorporated into the article (re-written, so there is not a copyright violation). You are welcome to edit article. Mass placing of links is regarded as spamming, irrespective of the content of the links, and, so far, mass linking is your only contribution. There is furthermore a general experience on wiki that mass linking is done primarily with the benefit of the linker, rather than wiki, in mind. As each of your links is headed "Experience the artwork of Josh Neuman", it seems that the interests of this artist are a key motivation for placing the link. This does not bar such a link absolutely, but it certainly bars mass linking. Become an editor by all means. Work with other editors regarding the link (but don't place them en mass on article talk pages, as that too is regarded as spamming). But please don't place them in bulk, or you will receive a block on your editing. Also edits with any content should not be marked as minor - that is only for spelling, punctuation, typos, grammar etc. Tyrenius 23:28, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to make a couple points to help you understand my efforts and the great benefits to re-establish the links I added earlier.

If a wiki website requirement was not to have ANY promotion except the information on the site, almost all of the "external links" would have to be removed. If you would take a minute to look... just view any one of the external sites on the pages you've deleted me from and you'll see the site I added is not even close to being commercial. Also, none of the art.com, posters.com, or amazon.com links are affiliates... I will not recieve a penny for any sales that happen from them.

Basically this.... The whole point of WIKI is to spread knowledge. Clearly you can't honestly say that the links I've added are hindering people's ability to learn about the artists but instead are quite helpful. I wouldn't be suprised if WIKI authors would end up USING my directory to add articles to the page. Surely you aren't a WIKI editor to be a dictator/power controlling figure... you DO want to save people time and help them learn about what they're interested in? You're recent deletions are not leaning towards the "best for all" that this site wants. I truly want to believe that the only reason you're against this addition to the WIKI is because you simply saw a bunch of sites added and didn't realize their informational value.

I can't imagine you wanting to have people waste hours of their busy day to search for good surrealism information when the work is already done for them. I've already spent 4 months hand writing all nearly 800 reviews myself...I can't re-write everything for wiki... but I hope you take a second look at the site and see what you overlooked the first time... for EVERYONE'S sake. Let me know when you've reconsidered your deletions so I can add them and everyone can benefit.

I appreciate the work you have put into the pages, and some of them may well merit a place. However, I have to reiterate that we simply don't allow new editors to come along and do mass placing of links to a single website. It is standard practice to delete them. We are not looking for external links. We are looking for article content. You are welcome to contribute this. External links have to be approved individually for each article by the editors working on that article (one of whom you are welcome to become).
By the way, if you put 4 tildes ~~~~ under your talk it will sign your name automatically.
