Berend Veneberg[edit]

Hello Strongmantom,

I saw you edited Berend Veneberg’s competition record for the Worlds strongest man. You edited that he was quialifeid in 1994 and 2000 but this sites indicate otherwise 1994 2000. Did you use another source?Pindanl (talk) 16:03, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hjalti Arnason[edit]

It’s good to see other editors actively looking at the strength athletics articles, an area that I think until recently was massively under represented on Wikipedia. I can see from recent activity that you have noted that I have added an article on Le Defi Mark Ten International. The article highlighted that Hjalti Arnason had no article, which is something I thought should be addressed. I am glad that you have done this. However, from the article you have created I can see that you used the competition record I had put together in my namespace. I have no issue with this at all. Wikipedia is after all a collaborative effort and I stake no claim to the information as my own. However, I would have appreciated a note from you saying that you had utilised the work I had done. As mentioned, it is a collaborative effort and though I do not crave acknowledgment for articles I have created it is mildly irritating to have work from within one's namespace used without acknowledgment.Kwib (talk) 16:00, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for you response on my page. I was not suggesting you took the information from Le Defi Mark Ten International in the mainspace of wikipedia but from a page on my namespace (User:Kwib/Hjalti Arnason) where only the day before (12:39, 26 September 2010) I had begun to create an article on Hjalti Arnason. You can see from that page the similarity of the infobox I had begun to put together with that which you placed in the brand new Hjalti Arnason page that you created just 12 hours after (01:07, 27 September 2010). The similarity of what I had done combined with the close proximity in time of me creating it and you creating the Hjalti Arnason led me to that conclusion. From what you have said it seems that it was a pure coincedence.Kwib (talk) 07:53, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose that once Defi Mark Ten was created it highlighted the need to create an article for Hjalti given he had won it. Given how active you have been in addressing these missing but important athletes it is natural that you would have created an article on him and I apologise for the misunderstanding. Sons of Samson vol. 2 is an excellent book written by one of the most knowledgeable people in the field and I am glad we share an appreciation for it. I have searched for volume 1 to no avail. I have a feeling that Volume 1 was privately published and that volume 2 contains much of the content of one, but I may be wrong. I would love to have a source that contained more on the World Muscle Power championships and I am holding out hope that Volume 1 has that. With regard to citing books, I actually think that wikipedia prefers published sources but I am not sure on that and both web sources and hardcopy (books, newspapers etc) are accepted. How to format citations contains a concise guide and is worth looking at for a couple of minutes.Kwib (talk) 20:19, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brian (Bryan) Neese[edit]

It nice to see someone taking the time and interest in cataloging the American Strength Legends. I've just edited the name for Bryan Neese, but didn't create an account to change the title. Uncle Bryan and I both spell our names with a Y and not an I. If there's anything you'd like to know to add to the page, please let me know at bpneese@comcast.net

Thanks,

Bill Pittuck and BSM[edit]

Hello, I noticed the additions to Bill Pittuck's championship record. Although his history in the BSM, no matter where he finished, is worthwhile in the narrative, I am concerned that adding anything below 3rd place in BSM within the medal record dilutes its impact somewhat. WSM, fair enough...it is the pinnacle of the sport globally, and being invited is the high point of the career for many strength athletes. But national level competitions I think at best should on show top three finishes. What are your thoughts?Kwib (talk) 21:41, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Tom McClure[edit]

The article Tom McClure has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Despite the successes apparently not notable, no reliable third-party sources. None found via Google.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. CSDs[edit]

Hey sorry for the several messages above. Basically, stemming from Wikipedia's aim to be an encyclopedia rather than a database, directory, or means of promotion, albums each have to demonstrate that they've been the subject of "significant coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject" (not including personal blogs, wikis, databases, press releases, materials by the band/their label/their promoter/venues), and need to state why they're "notable". When an article doesn't exist about the band (it looks like it was deleted), the album articles are typically deleted, too, unless it clearly demonstrates "notability" in these ways. If you think they have received such coverage and want to add it to the article(s), go ahead and remove the speedy deletion tag from the articles. If you see this after they've been deleted, you can always request an admin (I am not one) undelete the article in order for your to make those improvements. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 21:10, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Brian Schoonveld has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. —S Marshall T/C 17:41, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
