Hi this is really me

I am a fellow Bristolian

We have a Wikimedia Conference in town this weekend

We were getting some of the Bristol Project Wikipedians together at the Watershed on Saturday night for a Wiki Meet at around 6.30pm.

This is a good opportunity to meet people from the national Chapter, other Chapters from around the world and from the Wikimedia Foundation. There is a bar tab to help proceedings and we would be very keen to see you there.

Wikimedia 10 Bristol

Hi Steve, Thanks for the message etc - I can certainly be at the Watershed to help out as needed - as this is all provided I personally don't see any need for another meetup. The ideas for collaborations etc sound interesting (I'd like to get Bristol Museum and Art Gallery to do what the British Museum did. But I don't think I would have much time to devote to those sorts of projects.

Thanks also for your encouragement to apply for micro funding to arrange a series of meetups - however there seems to be an implicit assumption that meetups are a good thing & would be (in some way) productive - I'm not sure that is the feeling of the individuals involved & would probably be best tested on the wikiproject Bristol (& related projects) talk pages.— Rod ^talk 19:44, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

I completely agree Rod...I have been speaking to the Bristol Museum trying to encourage them (last February) it has been tough. Now we have the British Museum example it might become easier next year. Happy to work with the will of the majority. Will obviously go to the Project page to see but it would also be nice to hear. Bristol Wiki Meetup

Ways to improve Project Servator

Hi, I'm Mabalu. Steve virgin, thanks for creating Project Servator!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Good article, but I would recommend against using The Express as a source, and also, be very cautious about using Twitter and other social media as citations.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

I'll take a look when I have time. Of course, I am perfectly happy to slash any similarlity between article text and wiki text to a bare minimum (nothing at all if possible). Hello, Steve virgin. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

I organized this event with the UK board https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR7CPQrHkUQ in my home town (mentions me a couple of minutes in 'thanks to SV and the local Wikimedia UK chapter' - this is also me https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Bristol_Wikimania_Bid (again not on the main wikipedia page). I seem to recall I went hunting after some French pages where the English entries were weak and beefed them up taking the French to English (St jean de Luz I think from memory). I had never done my own page before and felt the need to do so. I realised I had to really pull out all the stops as the topic was controversial so it references 80 newspaper articles on the topic. I purposely did not 'lift material' - I wrote up my intepretations. There may be the odd example where a sentence or two is close to the original. Change it - that's why Wikipedia exists collaboratively to tidy each others work. How the article came in to being - I was feeling the need to do an article as I had never done one. I had done things like this https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Monmouthpedia_Day_-_Steve_Virgin.JPG where we launched Monmouthpedia the world's 1st wikipedia town and my involvement was mainly offline getting help to promote the stories and publicity. I did not know if I was capable of doing my own article from scratch and felt the need to try - hence the project servator piece. I also felt that after 4-5 years of doing almost nothing it was worth dipping my toes back in. Servator is police I do not and have never worked for the police. I can't fault you guys for suspicion - there is logic in checking this out. But trying to stay at arms length from the topic is one reason why the pictures on the Proj Serv site are so shit - I had to use generic ones - hope that helps (Steve virgin (talk))
