Group consensus[edit]

Since you are new perhaps you do not realize that major decisions such as splitting an article are always done by group consensus. Please use the talk page to discuss any major changes to the article in the future and only then, if you find that the group is in agreement, should you make any major changes to any Wikipedia article. The article wasn't split, Gandy. Your article has not been affected in any way. A separate article on a country in this epidemic is not only appropriate and necessary, but there's no need to obtain consensus from editors on a related page who have only given short summaries on individual countries. Gandy is making a good point. Being WP:BOLD is important - we need people to take initiative or nothing would ever happen here - but WP:CONSENSUS is equally as important. As editors, we have a responsibility to edit the encyclopedia overall; too many times editors focus on just one article and neglect related ones, and we end up with a suite of related articles that are out of sync and tell different and sometimes contradictory stories. This is a real disservice to our readers. It is better, when creating articles that are clearly subtopics of broader articles, to do that thoughtfully and in dialogue with folks working on the topic. Starstr, there's a rule here about how many times you can revert in 24 hours. Reverts on the same page, all in a row, without any intervening edits by others, equals one revert. You get up to 3. However, some administrators will block if they see repeated reverts even without 3 rr, that are occurring with other editors also reverting you. This is because edit wars are disruptive to the project. They are a real time-sink. Some editors engage in them just for that reason. Like when they blank/redirect articles, and blank whole sections on articles without first discussing on the talk page. Also, see WP:BOLD. If you come to an article and delete or add material, you can be reverted and then must discuss on the talk page. Some editors read that the wrong way and think the opposite. Starstr, (e/c). I can see what you mean. In this case, a good policy is to always comment on the comment and not the editor who made it. Everybody does it at sometime, even admins, because discussions can become heated, and editors get frustrated. But in general, it's to be avoided. Most admins won't block for incivility. But if the comments are serious enough, as explained in this policy, you can be blocked. As for the comments Doc James is objecting to, it would be better for you to go back and strike all or part of your comment. You can also change the section title to something generic. That's allowed. On the comment itself, usually it's a strike out, like this. Doing this is also part of assuming good faith. Well done, you. And yes, you're right, there are editors who cluster who do things they shouldn't. That's why always commenting on the comment is best. Ebola edits[edit]

Today you created a new section titled "Additional problems" and added a couple of sentences about a few Nigerians that died from drinking salt water, thinking it was a cure. I have removed this information from the Nigeria article several times already, and it certainly should not have been returned with its own header. You also changed the heading "Countries with local transmission" to (something like) "Countries with former transmission". We are using the terminology that the WHO uses. I don't agree with you removing the Nigerian deaths. I can understand why you did not want them on the Nigerian Ebola page (currently re-directed) and but I don't know who added them back there. Extraneous prediction removed[edit]

I've removed the following text from the Ebola virus disease in the United Kingdom article:

In October 2014, the United Kingdom was rated as the 6th most likely country to have an imported Ebola case.[1]

While this might have been relevant in October, it's no longer relevant today. The actual case of an imported infection constitutes facts on the ground, and makes such speculation completely irrelevant: the post facto probability turned out to be 1, and any considerations of "forward looking" probability are only worth considering from a philosophical basis, if at all. As the guidelines say, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, and it's certainly not a retroactive crystal ball. -- Impsswoon (talk) 19:40, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
