Jimmy Chagra[edit]

I'm politicalmerc and no I'm not from El Paso. I met Jimmy in Atlanta and was a close associate for over a year.

John

Your sandbox[edit]

Your sandbox contained a number of things, including unsourced criticism, about a US politician whose staff contacted the Foundation about it. I've undeleted it but could you please stuff it offline?

This is the sad reality: outside people do not make a difference between user pages and encyclopedia space. David.Monniaux 09:48, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the article from the Wiki server, but it is still google-searchable. There is nothing I can do about google's cached pages. This political candidate has not acheived "politician status" yet, and I find it odd that a candidate be allowed to request the censorship of what might be viewed as a skeleton in the closet. If possible, I would like to view the complaint filed by his staff so as to better understand what aspect of the future article exactly should be reworded or edited. I also muse as to whether the candidate's staff contacted the local newspaper demanding censorship. Once again, thank you for your cooperation. Somnabot 15:37, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

articles[edit]

Hi. I just deleted the articles Dr. Rabal, Hekaran and Serova as it appears they had been taken from memory-alpha.org word-for-word. Memory-alpha has a different licence to us, so usually you can't do that : unless you wrote the text yourself in the first place or have specific permission from whoever wrote this. Can you confirm whether or not this is the case? Morwen - Talk 13:57, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The articles were added at the suggestion of someone who claimed to have written them. I have no proof that his/her claims are true, but I happily obliged. Delete them if you wish, I have no real fascination with salvaging Star Trek articles. I can only say that I cited the memory-alpha site as the reference. If you decide to to get rid of the articles listed above, may I suggest you also rid the following redirects: Doctor Serova | Dr. Serova | Rabal (Disambiguation) and Rabal (Star Trek).

Contacting you[edit]

Hi Somnabot, My name is John Geraghty, I have been researching Charles Harrelson over the last few years and obviously Jimmy Chagra has come up. Would I be able to pick your brain a bit with regards your contact and relationship (or lack thereof) with Jimmy Chagra? My email address is johnpetergeraghty@gmail.com Any help you could give me would be most appreciated. All the best John Geraghty14.31, 30th November 2006

Would you be the same John Geraghty who worked as a free lance newspaperman in the 1960's? Somnabot 22:58, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Automobiles Notification[edit]

Hi Somnabot, you were on the list of members at WikiProject Automobiles and we are introducing a new way of listing members, as the old list was becoming too long. Our new method involves having all of our members in a category.

To add yourself to the category just add the userbox to your user page by putting {{Wiki Auto Project}} where you want the userbox. Alternatively if you don't like the userbox you can add [[Category:WikiProject Automobiles members|Somnabot]] to your userpage.

If you no longer wish to be a member of the project, simply don't add the userbox or category, there's no pressure. Thanks for your time, James086Talk | Contribs 04:29, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pancho Villa[edit]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Pancho Villa. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tubezone (talk • contribs) .

Hi, I'd like to clarify that my addition to the Pancho Villa article was not a random act of Vandalism. I would like to remind you that careful cosideration is necessary when evaluating the need for a revert. A short study of my contributions should have alerted you that I am not just another vandal. The trigger finger of Pancho Villa is ACTUALLY for sale at a store in Downtown El Paso, Texas. I do understand that "Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising." And agree that the asking price of the finger should not be included in the article. I felt that its inclusion may serve to demonstrate the authenticity of the finger. Somnabot 17:17, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, do you have anything besides a pawn shop blog entry that says that's actually Pancho's finger? Neither pawn shops (Lawdy, El Paso has a few) nor blogs are a reliable source. I'm familiar with newspaper articles, etc, that verify that his grave was defiled, but this is the first I've heard that his index finger was amputated and preserved.
Perhaps stating that Dave's Pawn Shop claims to have Panchito's missing digit, would be more apropo, with some other reference besides a blog.
I used to work for the defunct El Paso Herald Post, and I know there's other trivia about Pancho that ought to be in this article (eg: Pancho shot up a downtown El Paso barber shop, when I lived there, the barber shop, with bullet holes, was still in business). I bet the public library has old newspapers on microfilm, you could probably turn up all sorts of trivia about Pancho, with better references. Maybe even find where someone reported having Villa's preserved dedo. Frankly, this would not surprise me much, Alvaro Obregon's amputated arm is preserved. Tubezone 17:38, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"El Dedo Pistola de Pancho Villa" was written up in El Diario de Juarez and on TV Azteca within the last month. I cannot produce any materials on the stories from the web, but I do have a hard copy of El Diario with the story in it. After taking a good look at the finger, I can tell you it is certainly real and certainly human. Interestingly, the pawn shop in question is located in the Montgomery Building two doors down (on the other side of where the old Vogue theater stood) from the building where Porfirio Díaz from the front balcony that still stands today saluted Ignacio Zaragoza while he was standing on South El Paso St.
It's a shame the Herald Post went defunct. The Times has since become a loose mouthpiece. Somnabot 18:10, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What's the date on the copy of El Diario? You can look up back articles on their web site, http://www.diario.com.mx/busqueda.asp. I'd like to see if they did any background on this, like where the finger is from, etc. Tubezone 13:04, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
El Diario de Juarez ran the article on 12/17/06. The title of the article was "Venden su puesto dedo de Pancho Villa en EP". TV Azteca ran their story about it this morning on EP channel 11. I tried to search for it myself, but the search really didn't turn up anything. Hope this helps. Somnabot 20:30, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dexter deletions[edit]

Hey,why change/remove my parts i added into the dexter TV series wiki in the trivia and plot sections? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.104.195.125 (talk • contribs) .

I'm having troubles finding your exact edit. It seems your ISP probably periodically changes your IP. I assume you are the same person who wrote "* In a nod to Bret Easton Ellis' novel "American Psycho", Dexter uses the alias of "Dr. Patrick Bateman" to order the chemical he uses to paralyse his victims. Patrick Bateman was also a murderer posing as a normal member of society." under the IP 172.202.75.206. I edited this information out because it had priorly been decided that this tidbit of trivia was better located in the actual episode article located here. Feel free to edit your statement there. The conversations regarding the decision can somewhat be found here. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. I would also suggest that you register an account with wikipedia. This would simply make it easier to correspond with you as well as coordinate your edits. Best of luck. Somnabot 22:45, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:ELPSAnjacin2.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:ELPSAnjacin2.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. feydey 05:23, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How is Juarez different than Tijuana?[edit]

You accused me of vandalism becuase I didn't agree with you and on the discussion page you didn't answer the question raised. Why don't you go explain the differance and in the future limit the vandal label to vandals, its becoming the catch word for disagreements. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.206.165.16 (talk) 03:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I understand how unjust it feels to see your own handcrafted addition to an article get wiped away. Please don't take offense, it happens every day, to most anyone. As for this revert in particular, the information you added had already been reverted repeatedly. It was been reached by a group consensus at the time to retain the article as it is now. I understand you wouldn't have had any knowledge of this agreement, but thats what the revert is for. Please consider registering with Wikipedia, and becoming better acquainted with the rules and guidelines in place. Every editor can make a difference, I hope you will continue helping the project. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Rabal.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Rabal.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Warning given to 151.202.237.10 about vandalism to Jagged Edge (Band)[edit]

Hi, I've just noticed in your edit summary you blamed 151.202.237.10 (Talk) for vandalism to Jagged Edge (band) and put a warning on their talk page. Looking at the edits User 151.202.237.10 added a new line to the guest appearences which looks fine and valid. The changes you reverted were done by 12.208.153.82 (Talk). I have warned 12.208.153.82 (Talk) but you may want to go and explain on user 151.202.237.10 's Talk page that it was an error and you aren't blaming them for vandalism they didn't do. If you want to reply here I will check back periodically. Thanks -- GQsm 14:07, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As you don't seem to have been around so far, I have removed the notice from user 151.202.237.10 on your behalf. GQsm 20:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

my warning[edit]

Where do you get off giving me a final warning for something I had already been warned about? How about reading before slapping the page with your warning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.28.21.130 (talkcontribs)

made an error, if you have any problems with it, let me know. Somnabot 16:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the problem was irrelevant to the issue I was disputing. I thought you had warned me for the truthful edit I made to Robert Mugabe, but it was for the article Grill Pan. In any case, I still think your warning to be unjust. Check my edits to the grill pan page - all I did was made it not redirect to something completely random! Please check your facts in any case. 82.28.21.130 23:51, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't anticipate myself participating in some sort of bout with you over something so trivial. I would like to take a moment to interest you in an account with Wikipedia. It'll give you a chance to become more involved with the community, as well as make it easier for me to recall who you are when we speak. Please, consider it. Fair use rationale for Image:Dexisode7.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dexisode7.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2007, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:11, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Dexter episodes, by TTN, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Dexter episodes has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Dexter episodes, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Category:Dexter episodes itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 01:43, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tags[edit]

Back on February 23, you made some hefty edits to the Santa Claus in Northern American culture article. In captioning some images, you used a few pairs of <small> tags (which in itself didn't affect the size of the text within the captions), but you didn't properly close the tags, so all the text afterwards was made to be really tiny. When you use a tag, you have to close it by typing a slash into the tag, like this: </small> I don't know why nobody noticed that the article was messed up until at least three months later, but I've taken care of it.

Also, while I'm at it, when I saw who had made the edit, I was slightly concerned to see the "bot" part of your username—it made me worry that someone had programmed a bot to make edits, but that the person hadn't programmed the bot to correctly close tags. I see now that this isn't the case, but have you considered getting your username changed so that you don't cause people to think you're a bot? --Brandon Dilbeck 02:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

I'm making every efforts to learn each and every tool on Wikipedia so please bear with me. I find it very enjoyable and relaxing to write articles in this site. I thank you for inviting me to contribute to the El Paso related articles. I will be more than delighted to do so and I felt that El Paso deserves to be viewed in positive light and the media usually viewed it in negative lights. I intend to change that, but this is a challenge. I will be exploring into such opportunities in the near future.

By the way, that was a fantastic black and white picture of Mt. Franklin. It's breath taking and indeed beautiful. I used to live around that spot from Mesa. =) I miss El Paso's mountains.

I hope to get to talk with you regarding these articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TXLonghorn (talkcontribs)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:DexterLogoImage.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DexterLogoImage.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
