Here's a few relevant links for WildBot

A few relevant links...

As far as I'm aware, the article portion of the code is fine. What needs to be updated in the book portion of the code is this:

  • Regular run on all books, regardless of whether they have been edited or not. A daily run seems like a good starting point.
  • Removal of fair use images in the {{saved book}} template (example: [1]).
  • Adding Category:Wikipedia books (books without categories) to books if the books do not have manually added categories (example: [2]).
  • Moving comments on their own lines (example: [3]).
  • Make "Halt" and "HaltBook" independent functions. That is that stopping the bot on articles will not interrupt the bot on books.

Getting the bot to run is the priority, the code tweaks can wait. If you have any questions, let me know. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 19:01, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

unblock request

Dear Shirik Here I am posting this message from my friend's computer because my user and home IP address has been blocked due to some misunderstanding. I edit Wiki with my username aminami. I as personal provide services in an organisatioin where Mr. Hishmi works. The organisation works on Local Area Network and use network sharing. I also make edits being in that organisation with my user account. I never tried to bypass Wiki policies. I ever made healthy edits and created many pages. I ever tried to give positive contribution in Wiki. But as me and Mr. Hishmi use same IP many times you assumed that we are the same person. Please see my edit history and please unblock me. I have to create many pages on Wiki. Yesterday I started creation pages of players of common wealth games 2010. But today I saw that I have been blocked. Please unblock me.. Thanking you ... aminami —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.168.46.190 (talk) 06:10, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Right to vanish/name-change

The name change is a great option. Thank you for the link. However, I was wondering if you could tell me where exactly to go to request the name change. The link you provided seemed to only give the guidelines and rules, but didn't seem to provide a place to make the request. Thanks. Andrew Olivo Parodi (talk) 05:16, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Redsixfannorth

Regarding this block, this guy is pretty insistent that he did not know this Martin58474 person. Of course, the checkuser (jpgordon did it after the block) and the behavioral evidence are as good as we usually get, so I believe (as explained in text I removed in this edit) that he is either a meatpuppet or he and Martin work at some company where they both have a big COI. Whichever is true, they're both bad. On the other hand, his only harmful edit was his initial participation in the AFD. I don't think we ought to unblock him outright, but how do you feel about offering him the standard second chance?--Chaser (talk) 15:57, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

What worries me most is this comment. If I understand this correctly that means there is not one but two links between the users. If this is the case, I have to agree with Jpgordon that it is quite unambiguous. Regardless, the level of disruption was minimal at best (once it was caught). I would be fine with WP:SECONDCHANCE; feel free to offer it. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 20:13, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Done. Thanks.--Chaser (talk) 21:38, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Commons move done

Hi Shirik, Thanks, the move of the file is re-done successful. My connection is still dropping like flies, hence I couldn't tell you on IRC. Krinkle (talk) 11:32, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks; I've deleted it. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 11:39, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Altiyan Childs

Thanks for you help. But the user won't stop adding the image. Can you warn the user? ozurbanmusic (talk) 21:46, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Can you explain to the user who keeps adding non-free images to the Altiyan Childs article why they are not allowed to be used on articles like that. The user clearly doesn't get it. ozurbanmusic (talk) 22:07, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. I've gone ahead and removed the image again, contacted a commons admin whom has deleted it (again) and brought the issue up at WP:ANEW. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 22:08, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that. The user is blocked now for 36 hours, but once that's over, the user will keep adding more non-free images. ozurbanmusic (talk) 22:14, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
We can burn that bridge if/when we get to it :) Always remember to assume good faith. I'm hoping that this can be resolved a bit more peacefully. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 22:15, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Yep thanks. I hope so too. Im guessing the user is a teenager judging by the comments he/she has made to me, using bad language. ozurbanmusic (talk) 22:18, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you so much for unblocking me. Once that user is unblocked I hope someone will explain to he/she about the use of copyrighted images. I may need your help if the user continues to add the images. ozurbanmusic (talk) 07:02, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Not a problem. I will also be keeping an eye on the situation in the coming days. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 07:02, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Ok sure. ozurbanmusic (talk) 07:06, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the semi-protection. Invitrovanitas (talk) 16:40, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

No problem --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 16:42, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Shirik. You deleted this a couple of hours ago, but it's back again. Could you have a look and see if it's the same copyvio again, and if it is, delete it again. Thanks. --Kudpung (talk) 12:14, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing it out. It does appear to be a complete rewrite without any basis on the original material. However, I make no assertion as to whether or not the article should be deleted for other reasons. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 18:30, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Possible COI in a recent action of yours

I see that you were the admin who handled this action. I think that you should have left this one for some other admin, as this is a personal attack on you. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 14:17, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

I had a long, drawn-out response written here but then I figured it wasn't worth it. Instead, I'm going to leave it at this: seriously? If you think it's a bad idea, undo it yourself, otherwise the community has in the past (when I used to bring things like these to ANI) been so in support of my actions that it's not worth taking there. If you honestly think you can make any reasonable argument for this not qualifying under CFRD 2 feel free to make it, otherwise please don't waste my time on something that really doesn't matter... at all. It's overwhelmingly obvious what should have happened here. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 18:33, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Mishehu, don't be silly. It was perfectly fine for Shirik to do what he did in this case. If the deleted content was not a candidate for revdel, then it would have been acceptable for you to bring it up to Shirik and/or the appropriate venue. Otherwise you're complaining for no reason.
