When I first saw the ad, I googled it to find out more information, and I recall seeing a couple of notable reviews of it. I just haven't had time to find them again. CGI squid?

Heart and Soul?

Is there a source for the original camp song (or the version used in the commercial) being sung to the tune of "Heart and Soul"? While the whole song (particularly noticable in the chorus) has the same chord progression as most of that song (I-vi-ii-V), but that's a very very common progression. The verses, on the other hand, are NOTHING like the melody of Heart and Soul. It most certainly is NOT. It is an old Scout song for campfires: [1]. The refrain is more often transliterated as "Boom de ah da" but discovery spelled it differently. While there many be slight similarities to Heart and Soul, they are not the same song. Furthermore, Discovery is an outdoorish type network, which stylistically would be more likely to choose a camping song.Legitimus (talk) 12:49, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

That's interesting, I've never noticed that Boom De Ah Da/The World/etc. had some similarities to Heart and Soul - they are, of course, just coincidences. See also: Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure (which, oddly, has also been mentioned in xkcd). Regardless, although the chord progression is the same and there are a few similarities vis-a-vis the melodies, they are different songs. As Legitimus said, this is an old camping/scouts song. Traditionally you get a bunch of people to sit in a circle and you sing the chorus in harmony, going around the circle while someone says something they love about the outdoors. I don't know where it got its start, but the scouts is a good bet.

I remember singing this with my dad and brother when we went camping... but I digress. There's no need to mention Heart and Soul in the article, unless it seems relevant to point out along with the actual history of the song (if it even has an article) that it is sometimes confused with Heart and Soul - I believe this has been done with the aforementioned Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby. --Kmolnar (talk) 17:11, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I think the confusion is that you see that rounded snout-like thing. that's actually the seal(or whatever) the shark is eating, not the nose of the orca. If you watch it in slo-mo, you can see the pointed shark nose at it comes out of the water. It's actually quite impressive to watch. GumbyProf: "I'm about ideas, but I'm not always about good ideas." I live in Honolulu, and the beach in the ad looks nothing like what we have here (neither Waikiki or Ala Moana, or any of the others that come to mind). Take it from someone who grew up here. I think it's actually the Australia Day celebration in January 2007, this image [3] by photographer Antti Kemppainen has been circling the net since then. The beach, fireworks, and lighting in the background seem to match up. (More info on photo [4]) (Satertek (talk) 15:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC))

First Version, Concert Scene

Upon first seeing this on TV, I wondered why a Dilated Peoples concert clip was part of this ad. Almost every scene from the ad had a direct tie-in with Discovery channel programming in some way. I immediately recognized the group on stage, having seen them live 6 times, plus having seen their Release Party DVD. Both vocal members of the group can bee seen in the short shot. I have updated the wiki from "A large rock concert" to say "A Dilated Peoples concert" with a link to the group's wiki page. Discovery Canada Version

• I love the planet - Jay Ingram at a nondescript location, followed by space footage - could be Race to Mars (Daily Planet) (short version replaces Josh Bernstein's I love tornadoes, long version replaces the surfer's I love the oceans)
• Boom-de-yada - Andrew Younghusband (Canada's Worst Driver and Canada's Worst Handyman) destroying a car windshield with a bowling ball (long version only, replaces the Planet Earth segment)
• Boom-de-yada - Andrew Younghusband in a car junkyard (short version only, inserted between the Deadliest Catch and Last Man Standing - the Deadliest Catch sequence is shortened to make room)
• I love the whole world - Adam Growe (Cash Cab) celebrating with some contestants, and then a shot of him in downtown Toronto with his cab (long version only, the beach fireworks scene is shortened to make room)

Boom-de-ah-da means...?

Perhaps it should be mentioned (with a ref of course) whether the phrase "Boom-de-ah-da" actually means something or if it's just a jibberish song lyric like "dum dee dum dee dum". Anyone have information on any possible meaning for "Boom-de-ah-da"? -- œ^™ 09:01, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Is it really Josh Bernstein that sings this line? cuz he doesn't really have anything to do with tornadoes.. he hosted adventure/archeological type shows. In what languages this ad was remade? I was able to find 3, the Portuguese one I know is official (I saw it on Brazilian Discovery Channel), the others I don't even know if they are fan-made. I couldn't find any clue on Discovery site.
