Question[edit]

Would you please translate the entry "pt:Críticas à Rede Globo" for the wiki-en? Thankfully. 177.182.54.27 (talk) 14:30, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting article. I'll give it a shot. SamSkulls (talk) 11:55, 10 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Wikipedian: before you set to work on it, allow me to alert you to the suspiciousness of this request. Please take a look at this user's contributions. Notice that they have never done anything else besides asking dozens of other users to translate an article into English. This user literally popped out of nowhere to ask for something nobody has ever asked before. I mean, is there anyone else interested in this translation? Why does this user want it? And why haven't they presented any reason for it? Please notice also that the English article Rede Globo criticism is actually a redirect to Rede Globo#Controversy. Apparently, Rede Globo criticism was once an actual article whose content seems to have been deleted due to lack of usefulness, as you can see in its talk page. This seems oddly suspicious to me. Please talk some time to consider if this project is really worth your time (notice that it's a huge page in the original version). Thank you! -- Sim(ã)o(n) * Talk to me! I tend to agree. O Globo is a contentious issue in Brasil, and the mass-requesting is probably politically motivated. That in itself doesn't bother me, and I think topics on media corruption are of interest to a western audience... but judging from the talk page of the PT article, the writing quality may not be adequate for translation. Thanks for your concern. SamSkulls (talk) 07:14, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Use your best judgement. I cannot forbid anyone from doing so. I am simply warning you of the problems that are inherent to this request. Personally, I would like to help, but I would rest more assured if I were able to get some further insight into this weird request. I think that it is not worth it to waste time actually translating a huge article just because an unidentifiable IP, who has never done anything else in Wikipedia, has asked a bunch of users to do it, for no apparent reason, via nonstandard means for requesting a translation. But that's just my opinion. Again, use your best judgement and do as you wish. As for me, I shall probably just accompany the progress of the situation, keep on investigating, and not start the translation until I'm more confident there's good reason to do it.
