Well, they were introduced by you (as you can see in this diff: [1]) somehow. It happens to everyone, so don't worry too much about it. Implementation of textareas in browsers is pretty much universally bad, and it's not that difficult to accidentally highlight part of a word when you think you're at a different area and then start typing or hit the space bar or whatever. (In fact, for large articles or for big edits I plan to make, I copy the entire box into a text editor and edit it there, where I have much better control over the text itself.) You can check to see exactly what an edit you have made is going to do before you commit by clicking the "Show changes" button below the edit summary. That'll bring up a diff like the one I linked above that shows exactly what has been added and removed and where, and then if everything's hunky-dory, you can hit "Save page" to commit the changes. Hey Rossman, thanks for your message! Like Bbatsell said, your username logged those changes, but sometimes that stuff happens because your browser does weird stuff for some reason. One pattern I notice in the changes is that some somewhat-dirty words got blanked out - as you can see in the diff Bbatsell posted, "occult," "bong," and "pornstar" were the words that got deleted in between edits. Also, when you posted the message on my userpage, the word "homophobe" got deleted from a comment someone else left me (diff). Maybe your browser on parental control or some censoring mode, but Wikipedia is not censored so those words are OK to use here. To eliminate problems in the future, I'd recommend, like Bbatsell noted, using the "Show preview" button to make sure your edits are what you want.
