Welcome

Welcome to Wikipedia. To find out how to make useful contributions, take a look at the welcome page. To stay in Wikipedia, an article has to be about something notable, that is, of general interest. Click on Notability for an explanation of what that means. Also, it must give independently verifiable sources. Articles that don't meet these requirements are likely to be deleted. Replaceable fair use Image:Police Siren.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Police Siren.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rat at WikiFur (talk) 09:43, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Odb.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Odb.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Copyright problems with Image:Odb.jpg

An image that you uploaded, Image:Odb.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. BlueAzure (talk) 17:12, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Shoot 'Em up

Please don't revert TheBlazikenMaster's edits any longer. They are right when they move the filming timeline to the production section. A single sentence on filming, which is part of production, does not have a need to be separated out from the rest of the production information.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:16, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA

It hasn't been moved into the active nominations yet. But, I will warn you, it is almost certain that you will not be given the tools because of the short length of time you've been on Wikipedia and the likeliness that you don't yet have a thorough understanding of policy. Daniel Case (talk) 17:05, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I removed your RfA from the main WP:RFA page because it wasn't formatted correctly. If you'd like, I can add it for you, but I really, really think you should think about this first. I have never seen an RfA pass (within the last two years) when the editor has less than 2000 edits. RfA can be a little rough, and my own opinion echoes Daniel's above. I don't think it would pass. I recommend holding off, spending some time looking at other successful and unsuccessful RFA's, and possibly looking into WP:ACOACH. Let me know if you want to add your RFA anyway, and I'll help, but I don't think it would be wise. --barneca (talk) 20:05, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
I should note that I'm going offline in 10 minutes, so if I'm not around and you want to discuss, you could ask for help/advice at Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship, and others can help you out (and, probably, also try to talk you out of it!)  :) --barneca (talk) 20:20, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Secret Dubai

A tag has been placed on Secret Dubai requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Rob Banzai (talk) 16:01, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello! Can you move your defense of the article to the article's talk page? Normally you would not want it to be part of the article. That's a good link you posted. You should add it to the main article to show that there is a third party reference supporting the notability of the blog. I will go back and remove my CSD and your 'hang on' tag if you can handle getting that reference added. Rob Banzai (talk) 16:14, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Hmm. I just noticed that the comment you added to my talk page had this summary: "explaining my side of the story to this obviously poor-informed editor." That seems unnecessarily harsh. Your article did not have any supporting references when I added my CSD tag and I am not from that part of the world. I hope you will forgive my adding the CSD tag but it seemed appropriate at the time and as you see I removed it immediately when you established notability. :) Rob Banzai (talk) 16:19, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
If you're having trouble with pages getting deleted I'd suggest working on them offline until they are really detailed, and then adding them to Wikipedia. That gives you a chance to take your time and make sure you have notability established with outside references, so as soon as you post the article it will be clear to any editor that it's a good addition. Good luck! Rob Banzai (talk) 16:26, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Not sure this has sufficient media coverage to establish notability. Can you add more verifiable sources? I could not find much, but then I only searched in English. Dlohcierekim 16:28, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

your anon vandal

Welcome to the club :-). Since it was old vandalism, I just put a warning on the page. If it is happening repeatedly and consistently and the vandal has ignored the level 4 warning, go to WP:AIV and follow the instructions there to file a report (while it's happening). An admin should take action (not always a block) fairly quickly. Daniel Case (talk) 16:57, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

List of characters in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

I removed the image you added because these articles have come under scrutiny in the past for apparent violation of WP:NFCC, which is an official policy. Take a look at this discussion at the San Andreas characters article for an idea of the lengthy heated debate which ensued as a result of this. In the end, a general consensus was formed there to include images for "Major" characters only and this was later applied at the other List of characters articles, including the Vice City one. Basically, by enforcing this standard, i'm simply attempting to prevent these articles from coming under scrutiny again, and avoid the hullabaloo I pointed to above. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Aisha Rumble Roses.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Aisha Rumble Roses.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:18, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

RE: Linking of Andy McNab novel

Hello Roaring Siren, just to let you know that I have reverted your edits on Andy McNab. I realise they were in very good faith, and you are just trying to help. The reason I have reverted them is that the link did not work, and as far as I know the link does not have an article. Thanks, Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs) 14:26, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello, on your recently created article there was no need to link it to an internal link like that, you could have just put [[Nick Stone (Andy McNab character)|Nick Stone]], this way you can name it something else. Thanks, Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs) 14:52, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Re:Rumble Roses

It's pretty standard practice to remove character portraits from character lists, as their use is generally considered fair use overuse. Based on the non-free content guidelines and non-free content criteria, any use of non-free material must add significantly to the article, either by indentifying its subject (as is the case, say, with a logo on an article about a company) or by illustrating something which is discussed at length in the article, where the appearance is significant. Neither of the character you had illustrated had their appearance discussed, not to mention the fact that, in allowing those images, we would have to allow portraits for all of the other characters, and non-free media is generally not appropriate to illustrate lists of any sort. J Milburn (talk) 11:46, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Let's ignore the fact that other crap exists, and instead focus on how this article relates to policy. That article has numerous issues (frankly, it's a terrible article). I will look into the images being used on it now. J Milburn (talk) 11:52, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Right, I can accept the fac that you didn't notify me about the ANI thread as forgetfulness or just a lack of understanding of standard practice, but this crosses the line. I am not a vandal, please do not treat me as one- if you disagree with my edits, explain why, and be ready to back up what you say with references to reliable sources/policy, or reason. J Milburn (talk) 13:32, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Machine film.JPG

Thanks for uploading File:Machine film.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 13:06, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

We'd like to see proof of that please:

  • Angelina Jolie#Relationships: Third paragraph, the article supports the category.
  • References for that which were already contained in the article
"Tis the Season to Be Jolie." Girlfriends Magazine. December 1997.
Kesner, Julian & Megna Michelle. "Angelina, saint vs. sinner." New York Daily News. February 2, 2006.

Wildhartlivie (talk) 16:02, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

No problem. It's not unusual for someone to taken exception to that somewhere. More often, I find myself removing a category because nothing in the article supports it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 15:15, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
