For You

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
For beating me to uncountable instances of vandalism that I've spotted on Huggle tonight, and (so I can't be sullen about your superiority) even reverting vandalism on my own talk page. You, good sir/madam, are an excellent vandal fighter, an excellent Wikipedian, and truly deserve this excellent barnstar. RA0808 talkcontribs 02:27, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Snoop Dogg's Real Name

Hello Reaper Eternal. On your last edit of Snoop Dogg, you didn't give the correct birth name. You made every other edit correct, though. This is not a ban warning. Thank you for your time. RobertRay45821 (talk) 11:38, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

I merely reverted the vandalism on Snoop Dogg, so whatever was there before got restored. Thank you for fixing the issue. And yes, I know this was not a block warning. Reaper Eternal (talk) 19:09, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to the Bacon Challenge 2012

Hello! You have been invited to take part in the Bacon Challenge 2012. In case you don't know or need a refresher, the Bacon Challenge is an annual celebration of bacon on Wikipedia in which editors come together to help create, expand, and improve Wikipedia's coverage of bacon. The event lasts all the way through National Pig Day 2012, giving participants plenty of time to work at their pleasure. In addition to the Bacon Challenge is the Bacon WikiCup 2012, a side event to the Challenge in which all bacon-related contributions done by those participating in the Challenge are submitted and scored by the scorekeeper (me) based on the scoring chart. At the end of the Challenge, the user with the most points in the Bacon WikiCup will win a shiny trophy for their userpage. In addition, the users who score the highest in specific categories (not yet finalized, but the categories include most image uploads, most article creations, most DYK submissions, and more) will win barnstars. Finally, all participants will receive a medal. While the awards are nice, in the end, the important thing is to have fun and enjoy what we're all here for, which is improving Wikipedia.

If you decide to participate, great! You may add your name to the participants list at the main page of the Bacon Challenge 2012, and pick up the userbox for your userpage if you desire. Signing up for the Challenge will also automatically enter you into the Bacon WikiCup. If you don't wish to participate, that's fine too - maybe next year! In the meantime, if you know anyone who might also be interested in participating, feel free to invite them! The Challenge is open to anyone and accepts participants at any time, so feel free to let anyone who might be interested know.

Note that I, the scorekeeper of the Bacon WikiCup, will be on vacation starting on the 18th of June all the way up until the 5th of July. I will have limited access to the internet, so I may or may not be able to score users' contributions during this time. Sorry for any delay in scoring (but since the Challenge lasts for more than half a year, there's no rush, right? (= ).

I'm looking forward to another fun, successful year. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:47, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Filipe Lopes

I noticed that you reverted a page blanking at Filipe Lopes, although it was blanked by the article creator. Although I'm sure you do this anyway, I'd like to remind you to check page history when reverting page blanking, if it was done by a registered editor. --Slon02 (talk) 01:09, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

That's surprising, as Huggle used to check if the last edit was by the page creator and notify me. Oh well, I'll be more careful in the future, as it apparently no longer does so! Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:13, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Repeating characters vandal tag

This isn't particularly urgent since it was an allowed edit, but Edit filter 135, which checks for repeating characters in edits, is being tripped by editors replying in large comment threads, where you must add a large number of colons at the beginning of a response to produce the desired indentation (e.g. this dif. I believe this would be a simple fix, but I am completely unfamiliar with the Edit Filter syntax, so I leave it to you, since you seem to know what you're doing. -RunningOnBrains(talk) 02:06, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Actually, colons are already excluded from this filter for that very reason :) . What actually triggered it was the nine zeros in a row in the edit summary. I'm not certain I can remove the zero character without missing true positives, and since the only flag set in the filter is 'tag', I don't really feel justified in removing it for FPs that only happen every once in a rare while. If I'm wrong and this is happening regularly, let me know and I'll exempt the zero character. Good luck! Reaper Eternal (talk) 02:22, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah...that makes more sense. I was wondering why I hadn't noticed that tag behavior before, but I didn't realize the filter also looked at the edit summary. Thanks! -RunningOnBrains(talk) 02:29, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Editor review

Hi Reaper Eternal, thanks for reviewing me. I have finished reviewing you (though I did have a bit of a challenge finding anything you could improve on). Best wishes, Alpha Quadrant talk 05:08, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Oh, per your comment on my review, if you don't mind, could you offer me advice on what I should work on to get Dominion War to GA status? Thanks, Alpha Quadrant talk 05:08, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the review!
Some suggestions I have are:
  • Prose issues. Recruiting a GoCE helper might work.
  • What makes "startrek.com" a reliable source?
  • Same with "trektoday.com".
  • "memory-alpha.org", a wiki, is most definitely not a reliable source.
  • At least one of the references is a dead link.
  • Some parts of various paragraphs are unsourced.
  • Dates in the refs are highly inconsistent.
  • Massive violations of WP:OVERLINK (ex. it is unnecessary to link "Federation" every time it appears).
  • Several of the quotes are approaching copyvio status because they are so long.
  • Due to the number of book citations, splitting the "References" section into "Footnotes" and "Bibliography" sections might help with organization. (See Robert Tatton, cirrus cloud, or californium, all of which are good articles, for examples.)
  • Image appears to follow WP:NFCC.
Hope these help! Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:33, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and the following may be helpful in your attempt to write a good article
  • WP:GAC/WP:WIAGA/WP:GA?: They're the same thing, but some editors will link you to one, and some to another. (And all are redirects!) This is what editors will actually review your article against.
  • User:Giano/A fool's guide to writing a featured article: Excellent in ensuring your article passes GAN. (It's written for FAs, so you don't need to be quite that good.) Funny too.
  • The top of WP:GA & WP:GAN: They tell you how to nominate and how nominations are reviewed.
  • User:Rodw, User:Malleus Fatuorum, & User:Casliber: Click around on a couple of the GAs they've received and read the articles and their nomination pages. This may help you get a feel for what reviewers want.
  • Find somebody who shares your interests and ask for some help. I was very fortunate to have Rod's help on Worlebury Camp.
  • Talk:Worlebury Camp/GA1: My 1st attempt! (Notice Rod's help.)
  • WP:WIAFA/WP:FA?: Criteria for a featured article. Helpful to know where your article stands, but you definitely don't need to meet them.
  • Watchlist the article so you'll know when the reviewer starts work, and then watchlist the review page.
  • Respond promptly, as it will show them you are sincere.
Hope these help too! Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:18, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

No, all schools are exempt from A7 speedy deletion. (They can be deleted under G# criteria, but that is another story.) The consensus that applies to high schools is that they are almost always presumed to be notable (and thus survive AFDs) because sufficient coverage, whether on the internet or in print sources, almost always exists. (See WP:HIGHSCHOOL for more information.) Reaper Eternal (talk) 18:01, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

KING OF WIKIPEDIA - GRIM LITTLEZ (talk) 19:16, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

While it may very well be an article about a nonexistent film, it was not pure vandalism. Pure vandalism articles read a lot like: "Fuck the dugout film. It sux lots of <========8!!!". A blatant hoax is one where there is no possibility of it being true, such as "Dugout is a new upcoming film that will cost $10,000,000,000,000,000 for a ticket. It will come out in the year 2192." There is an essay out there called Wikipedia:Why I Hate Speedy Deleters that gives a number of examples on what actually meets the criteria. I hope it helps. Marked as Patrolled

Hi there, Reaper Eternal/Archive 6. Just a little request. It seems that Twinkle, quite annoyingly, doesn't mark pages as patrolled even when you tag them for WP:CSD, WP:PROD or WP:AFD. I've just come across an article, that you'd tagged for WP:CSD on the unpatrolled list. I'm sure you already know, but if you scroll down to the bottom of the article, there will be a little link in square brackets that says [mark this page as patrolled]. Clicking that means it'll get taken off the unpatrolled list and so no-one else will come across it on that list. It's not your fault, I know; it's Twinkle's. But until they fix it, it'd be great if you could click that link just before you tag an article. I've marked that one as patrolled. If you didn't find the article via the new pages list then just ignore me; you won't have had the option to mark it as patrolled. Sorry to be a pain. Keep up the good work. Fly by Night (talk) 00:30, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for leaving me this templated message which I see you have been leaving for many new page patrollers. (Located here: User:Fly by Night/MAP.) As a matter of fact, Twinkle does mark pages as patrolled. However, I did not access the page via Special:NewPages, and hence I did not receive the rcid from the recent changes table necessary to mark pages patrolled. Reaper Eternal (talk) 00:44, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
(edit conflict) You're very welcome. Thanks for the {{talkback}} template. I'm surprised you make mention a personally crafted template when you use automated tools yourself. Would you rather me type the same message, over and over? (I have left the message on quite a few talk pages, and almost all of the recipients have been happy for the "heads up". Only a few seem to have a problem.) At least you know now that you are leaving articles on the New Pages list that are not being marked as patrolled. It would be very nice if you could open the New Pages list and mark off any articles that you have dealt with via the automated, template posting, process that is Twinkle. Have a nice day. Fly by Night (talk) 00:51, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Sorry about my sarcasm. My reference is not that you left me a template message—I couldn't care less about that. However, as you yourself mentioned in that message, I cannot mark the page as patrolled unless I access it via Special:NewPages. I find it amusing that you would get annoyed enough by looking at an article tagged for speedy deletion to request that people go find the article in the new page list for the sole purpose of marking it as patrolled 30 minutes to an hour before an admin deletes it. If it really annoys you that much, I will go find them in the future. I also understand if the article did not meet the criteria for speedy deletion you would want me to patrol it, as otherwise it does waste time. Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:02, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
Apology accepted. From the TW tag it is unclear how you came across the page. However, almost all of the users that I "speak" to have found them on the New Pages list, didn't know that they needed to tag the articles, and are very pleased that I mentioned it to them. I don't get annoyed at all, as you should hopefully have been able to judge from the tone of the message. I think it's a waste of time for someone to patrol a page and then leave it for someone else to find; it's a waste of volunteers' time and effort. Thanks for taking what was a well meaning, and polite notice the right way. I've had a couple of people insist on not doing it just to, well, I don't know. But they might have been the sort of kids that said to their mums "I'm not going to tidy my room, and you can't make me!" Fly by Night (talk) 01:11, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
P.S. I see what you're saying about the articles being deleted. But in reality, it's only the G10, 11 and 12's that get deleted quickly. They A7's can take a day or two. In that time, imagine how many new page patrolers could have opened it, seen it's tagged, and moved on? It's a small, but cumulatively significant amount of manpower. Fly by Night (talk) 01:20, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
(edit conflict × 2) That's interesting, because I normally access new pages via copy-pasting the URL into the address bar on my browser. (My robot, ReapETbot (talk · contribs), notifies me of potentially nonconstructive pages, so I get there without being able to access the new pages list (and sometimes it is pages into the list, so it is hard to find). I agree that it definitely is a waste of time to have two people patrolling the same page, which is why I always try to mark pages as patrolled whenever I see the link. Additionally, the last thing I wanted to do was annoy you with my tone. Good luck! (And no, it doesn't surprise me that some people get irritated upon being told to mark pages as patrolled.) EDIT: Hmm, I didn't realize pages took that long to get through CAT:SD. I will mark A7 speedies in the future. Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:25, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive invitation

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

...but please don't template the regulars (and as far as I am concerned it is an attack page as all it does is highlight the charges with no other content). – ukexpat (talk) 16:41, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Would you rather I handwrote the same message? And no, it does not fall under criteria G10 because G10 requires the page to be a negative unsourced BLP. That page had a source, and thus I do not believe G10 applieds. (Its subject is still definitely not notable, hence my AFD nom.) Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:15, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Hmm...that template was rather more patronizing than I thought. I will write my own messages from now on. Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:20, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
For regulars, yes. As regards the article, if it's not a G10 it is certainly an A7 so you could have changed the template accordingly. It would probably have been deleted by now so we wouldn't have to go through the Afd rigmarole. – ukexpat (talk) 17:35, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
I have no comment as to whether or not it meets A7. Personally, I don't think it does. However, I definitely will not contest it if you add the A7 tag. (BTW, you can add a CSD tag to an article undergoing AFD, so if you want to add {{db-person}}, you can.) Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:37, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Technically as G10 has been contested, not sure I can do that, but I am going to IAR and do so anyway. Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 17:41, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
...but now it has been expanded a little so it's not an A7. – ukexpat (talk) 17:43, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry, the "wtf?" wasn't directed at you. It was because the page's redirect that you added wasn't working and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Eventually, I deleted the page's contents and retyped them all back out, and then the redirect worked, so I was like "why on earth did that happen???" As you can see here, I made no changes to the page. Good luck editing! Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:01, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello Sir, I saw what you posted at my talk page. But please before making any dumb conclusions check the user profile of the person i have nominated for adminship. I am just an year old user, how can i make a fake profile which is 5 years old and have created more than 150 articles with more than 50,000 edits. It seems you are here for targeting new users, am i right? Maybe i was wrong when i created an RFA for myself being such a new user. I admit my fault but it doesn't gives you the permit to make these kind of comments on my user space. And in the future check the facts before making such dumb comments. Thanks for all the work you did in making Cirrus cloud a Featured Article! Your work is much appreciated.

In the spirit of celebration, you may wish to comment on another Featured article candidate... or perhaps review one of the Good Article nominees, as there is currently a backlog. Any help is appreciated! All the best, – Quadell (talk)

A tag has been placed on Nabil Bhuiyan, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please see the page to see the reasons. If the page has since been deleted, you can ask me the reasons by leaving a message on my user talk page.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Omkar1234 Leave me a message! 11:50, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to guess that you went to tag the page for speedy deletion and edit-conflicted right as I moved it to the creator's userpage. Good luck! Reaper Eternal (talk) 11:54, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Newly created Edit Filter 426

For the newly created edit filter 426 (the one for the "tv station vandal")--will that filter tag any potential edits with a special edit summary, or will it actually stop them? As a non-admin (currently), I can't see the page. If the latter (stopping the edits entirely), is there a log of blocked edits (and, if so, is that visible by non-admins)? Qwyrxian (talk) 23:26, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Right now, it just logs the edits in case there are any false positives. You can view the log by going to Special:AbuseLog and typing "426" in the "Filter ID" box. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:23, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome, and good luck on your RFA! Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:49, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Here's a bunch that just got through (with none caught): [1], [2], [3]. The same editor actually made a bunch of changes, which are too general to be caught by an edit filter; a couple are actually even correct, as they fix formatting, but still, the rest have to be rolled back for being unsourced... Also, thank you for the luck! Qwyrxian (talk) 03:01, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Wow, I'm a retard. I included an uppercase letter in the lowercase regex comparison! The filter could never match anything! (Filter fixed now.) ;) Reaper Eternal (talk) 10:29, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Some more it missed: [4], [5], [6], and [7]. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:03, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

It triggered on all of them, see 1, 2, 3, and 4. Are you sure you are looking at the correct filter log? The log is here. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 12:37, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see. For some reason I thought that it was going to add one of those automatic edit summaries (like when someone removes sources, or repeatedly adds the same external link). I do see that the log caught them. Thanks. Qwyrxian (talk) 12:41, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi there - you cleaned up this article, which is no more than a tautology. Dont you think it should be simply deleted? Why edit a simple statement of logic? I'm curious. MarkDask 13:59, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

I was uncertain about the notability of the topic after Googling it, so I just cleaned it up rather than AFDing it. Feel free to send it to AFD if it is not notable; I have no particular interest in the article. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 12:29, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Yodata

Hello Reaper Eternal. I am just letting you know that I deleted Yodata, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. Salvio Let's talk about it! 20:35, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, I was kind of torn between A7 and G11 for that one, but eventually I decided that it wasn't really a pure advertisement (but definitely promotional in tone). I also felt that warning the user that "the website is not important" would be less bitey than telling them "quit spamming Wikipedia", especially since it seemed like a bit like a good-faith effort to make an article. Additionally, I was concerned that s/he might recreate the article only to have it quickly zapped again under A7. Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:42, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
A7 would have been appropriate too, but I remember I read somewhere (but for the life of me, I cannot rembember where) that G11 sort of "overrides" A7, because it sends a stronger message: the stop-spamming-Wikipedia one. I can see why you tagged it per A7, but statements such as Yodata supply only the best products at a reasonable price made me conclude that the article was indeed only promotion. In the end, perhaps, I should have used a db-multiple... Salvio Let's talk about it! 20:51, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I have finished reviewing your edits. Obviously, I did not go through all 10,000 Huggle edits, but the ones I spotchecked looked fine. I also reviewed your CSD tagging log, which looked good. (By the way, I also keep a CSD log, which I had to archive several times due to excessive length.) However, I would recommend contacting one of these administrators to look over your deleted edits, as I am not an admin and cannot see them. When I reviewed your AFD comments, I found a couple comments that were not very well thought out, such as this nomination. However, as you seem to not be interested in AFD closures (judging by RFA #3, you are interested in antivandalism), I don't feel that to be much of an issue. Congrats also on the GA, which should help your RFA. However, my criteria are much lower than most people's, so I would recommend asking somebody (particularly an admin) besides myself. Personally, I think you will succeed, just remember that A7 is not about notability! Good luck! Reaper Eternal (talk) 13:27, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you- I'll try to find an administrator to review my deleted edits also. And yes, you're right, AfD isn't an area that I'd like to work in. --Slon02 (talk) 14:31, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Pin the star on, marshall!

Congrats on turning that article Featured. I really did very little and admitted it, but perhaps we will collaborate more in the future. Cool topic was what drew my interest. I think in some ways, my comments caused you more hassle (like someone working on tidying up the moved-in house, being told "hey move the furniture"...but I also think high value comes from looking at articles substantively and not just gnoming what is there.)

Good job getting the thing through the process. It looked a little rough to me at first, but your heart and calmness led to getting the thing upgraded. So glad it worked out! Congrats on both the work effort and the demeanor.

Hope the whole thing was hugely positive to you in learning and in how it "feels". Oo-rah! I am still on the steep edge of the learning curve myself.

Again...MEGA-CONGRATS and BASK IN YOUR VICTORY!

So far, 45 people have signed up for the drive, of which 30 are actively participating, a very high participation rate. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us.

Progress report

Progress has been less than that needed to meet our target for the drive (which would reduce the backlog by about 400 articles). Remember though, if everyone copy edits one or two articles every day, we will easily meet our goal. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. Reducing the number of articles on this list has been a major success of this drive. Thanks for participating!

Thanks for the help

Hey Reaper thanks for the help. I was wondering if you had any more advice on how to make it more "neutral" point of view. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joncasanova11 (talkcontribs)

The article you have as a draft isn't really that promotional anymore; the main issue is that it doesn't indicate notability. What you will need to do to demonstrate notability is find some reliable sources. The relevant guideline it will need to meet is WP:CORP. However, as it appears that the company has only 3 employees, it is unlikely that it is notable. If it turns out to not be notable, perhaps you will enjoy contributing to other articles about things in your personal interests. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 19:20, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

RFA question

I am typing up an image-related question to ask at your RFA, but there is one question that I wanted to ask that I didn't want to create a distraction/drama by asking it there. You created your user account in September 2009. In this edit, you used a template {{GFDL-presumed}}, which had been deleted at MFD in May 2009 and deprecated since 2007. My question is this: how did you know about this template? Do you have any former accounts, which could be of material concern regarding your fitness for adminship? I apologize if I'm stepping on something (IE, a privacy reason for making a clean start) but if there is a previous account with a block log or any advanced permissions, that should be disclosed. --B (talk) 19:15, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

No, this is my first account. (My second is a bot and my third is the joke "Rapier Eternal" account like 28bytes' "umbrella" account.)
It took me a few moments to figure out what I had been doing then. :P Apparently, FurMe still has the {{GFDL-presumed}} in it, and I was using FurMe at that point. (See my next two edits to that file.) I added that tag via FurMe not knowing that it was deleted, and replaced FurMe's default edit summary with one explaining my reasoning. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 19:33, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. --B (talk) 19:37, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
No problem! Good luck writing your question! Reaper Eternal (talk) 19:40, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
I was originally going to put this at your RFA and I thought better of it - the goal isn't to ambush you and demand that you become an expert on copyright law - and both of these were from relatively early in your Wikicareer. So I'll just bring them here. I found two of your contributions to the image namespace at least slightly concerning. Since you only became active last fall and these contributions are from around that timeframe, I'm wondering if there is anything you would like to change:
The first one, I'm not even sure what the right answer is. If the original source image was merely a crop of a map in a US government publication, then cropping is not a "creative work" and the original author is welcome to claim that you can only use the image under the GFDL, but the image is still public domain. If, on the other hand, the original source did involve some creative activity, then the derivative work cannot be PD. I suppose, strictly speaking, since the second uploader is releasing all of his/her rights to the image, that you (or anyone else) can choose for him to make the image GFDL/CC, although it's probably better to ask the uploader to do it. --B (talk) 20:11, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
First image issue: I've asked the original uploader, User:Ruhrfisch, what modifications he made to see whether he can claim CC-by-SA.
Second image issue: I've re-tagged them as {{Non-free software screenshot}}, but a fair-use rationale needs to be provided (and I don't have the time to write one up right now), and they may be unable to be licensed because at least one will fail WP:NFCC criteria #3 (they are essentially duplicates), and they both probably fail cirteria #8. However, I'm pretty much no good at these image issues, and I do not want to get involved in them as an admin. Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:43, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Actually, on further review, the software was uploaded by the author of the software/owner of the company that made it. So we can use it under his free license. That was my error to not notice that the uploader's name matched the author's name and I do apologize if this has created a distraction in what I know from my own RFA is a stressful week. I have reverted to the "free" version of the image description page and added a link to the about page on the software's website so someone doesn't repeat my mistake. --B (talk) 21:32, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Ruhrfisch has responded, and it appears that he has done sufficient creative work to the public-domain source to license it cc-by-sa 3.0/2.5. Accordingly, I have updated the image description page on File:VaFrontier.jpg to include the attribution. Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:31, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I hate the lengthy RFA questions as much as the next guy, so I thought I'd drop you a note here... My feeling is that you're an awesome editor who should probably have been an admin much earlier. However, Wikipedia is having a big problem encouraging good faith newbies to stick around and make good edits. So far the data about deletions and what newbies actually do when they show up points strongly to the fact that the 51% of deletions that are CSD -- plus the fact that the majority of CSDs are for A7 -- really kills our ability to get fresh encyclopedia builders. I've seen your edits around plenty, and note that you've done a decent chunk of CSD work. ;) My point being: I am set to support strongly, but SoWhy's statement/diffs concern me, and I would feel more confident with clear reassurance that you're not going to speedy pages that are only minutes old (other than attack pages, which are only about 5% of CSD but deserve to be killed swiftly of course). We really need to be patient and not bite the newbies, even if it's thankless work sometimes. Steven Walling 20:01, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm not going to delete A7s immediately. That said, I will zap other categories (minus A1 and A3, for even more obvious reasons than A7) like G1, G3, G5, G8, G10, G11, and G12. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:43, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply. Best regards, Steven Walling 22:02, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

If it turns out that the image that you found for Moscow Water Dog is public domain or otherwise free content, that's really an outstanding find. Great job with my questions! --B (talk) 01:24, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
