Image copyright problem with File:Placebo - Special K.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Placebo - Special K.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 12:08, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Automatic Loveletter - Recover.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Automatic Loveletter - Recover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:20, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Smallville (season 2), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tom O'Brien (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Wiggles articles[edit]

Hi QB, I noticed that you "wikified" a bunch of Wiggles articles. I'm not surprised that there was some traffic on them, since the guys have been in the news the past couple days. Of course, I couldn't do anything about them due to the SOPA blackout yesterday. Bad timing, I guess. I'm the main editor for the parent article (which I brought to FA, my first) and most of the others, and I had a question. It's my understanding that it's discouraged to divide up articles into sections with just one paragraph. There's simply not enough information for the sections you created to be any longer, so why do it? I've been around WP for awhile, as you have, and I'm always looking to learn, so I'd appreciate your reasoning. Thanks. Christine (talk) 18:34, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Chicken Satay on Banana Leaf Java .jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. DBigXray 19:00, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File rename declined[edit]

File:Chicken Satay on Banana Leaf Java .jpg is on commons and if you wish to get it renamed you need to request it on commons. and in my opinion this is not enough reason for a rename on WP:Commons, although you may give it a try. cheers --DBigXray 19:02, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help![edit]

Perhaps I should know better but what exactly are the rules/guidelines/etc. for images? I was looking at adding images to the John Cornforth article, maybe, if possible, with images from the image-rich Nobel Prize and University of Sydney websites. Any help is definitely appreciated! --Qwerty Binary (talk) 18:16, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think the page you're looking for is WP:Image use policy. Be careful of the copyright status, and thanks for contributing! DoriTalkContribs 21:06, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bianca Jade page[edit]

Hi. I missed the the discussions about deleting the Bianca Jade page, and have now noticed that I came in for some criticism for having worked on it. I'm neither surprised nor particularly sorry the page has been deleted (though I do feel a bit foolish for having spent time on it). But I do regret missing that there was a discussion going on in which my editing was criticized.

Unfortunately, the record of the discussions I had with ShanaScala, who created the page, as well as my edits to the page, are now down the memory hole. But if they were available, they would show that my first edit (a massive effort to tighten the page and make it more encyclopedic) was summarily reverted by ShanaScala. I told her that her work on the page smacked of promotion, and noted that the page had already been nominated for deletion. She replied, we discussed, and I came to conclude that she was actually acting in good faith (if also a newbie and completely unfamiliar with WP norms). So I tried to explain what she was doing wrong, and began systematically working the article over to bring it in line with WP standards: cutting, condensing, de-fluffing, requesting citations, etc. Perhaps it was a lost cause; perhaps Bianca Jade is indeed non-notable. But (as I explained to ShanaScala), I'm a WP:NOTPAPER kind of guy, and I was content to improve rather than delete the article. Ultimately, I took the page off my watchlist and moved on.

I did not anticipate that a discussion about deletion would cast aspersions on my editing; I would have thought that the substance of my edits as well as my discussion of them on the article's Talk page would have clearly shown their intent. I hope this explanation casts my work in a better light. Cheers. PRRfan (talk) 15:42, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for the barnstar[edit]

Whoa! Thank you so much for the barnstar, Qwerty Binary. I'm not sure if I deserve it. The FIBot was broken. The bot's owner is no longer with Wikipedia. So no one could fix it. Nettrom (talk · contribs) has offered to use his bot instead, but this replacement is not ready yet. So I am just "moonlighting" at {{Opentask}}. :-) Hopefully, we'll have a proper bot soon. Thank you, again. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 21:02, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Commas[edit]

Greetings, and thanks for paying attention to commas and for trying to correct articles that have too few or too many. But please note that almost all writing guides recommend that introductory prepositional phrases of four words or less (and sometimes five words) do not need to be set off by commas. Your changes to WP:AWB seem not to be badly needed. Please don't take this to mean that you should slow down on making improvements to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Regarding adoption[edit]

Hi Qwerty Binary. I notice you've put a "request for adoption" template on your userpage. Given the number of users starting on the encyclopedia each day and the number who look for adoption, there can often be a backlog when just displaying the request. You are much more likely to find an adopter if you are pro-active about it, perhaps asking an editor or two from the list of adopters if they would consider adopting you? Good luck in finding someone to help out. WormTT(talk) 10:04, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
