Categories

Hello. I've undid this edit of your's. I think that since the article deals with the UK, it should be in a subcategory of Category:United Kingdom. Because I'm not very familiar with the subcategories of the main UK cat, I just left it in the main cat. That way, when someone more familiar with the subcats comes along and sees it, they can refine the category. I've noticed that you made similar edits to other articles. You may want to consider either re-adding the main UK cat back to those articles, or refine the cats to sub cats.--Rockfang (talk) 09:58, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for taking a look! I have been footling around with categories a fair bit recently for another project and, while I can see advantages in it, this drip-down method doesn't seem to be what typically happens with other categories (e.g. Category:States_of_the_United_States, for want of a decent example). I think typically someone with category knowledge adds a page to a category when the see it ought to be there, and the container categories hold just other categories and a few select children. In reality categories are a bit worse-maintained than pages, so relying on people to recategorise miscategorised things will probably just leave the container categories in a bad state for a long time. You've obviously done this for longer than me, though, so I'll bow to your superior experience if you feel strongly.--Pugwash (talk) 21:45, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
